london breeze. and huckleberry house and who is here ready to come up? is anybody ready? okay. let's hear it for our friends from huckleberry house. >> hello. i am jason martinez and this is victor. we work with huckleberry street clinic and i am a health educator and i found there was a need for a group for young men in the community, so i wrote a grant to youth funding ideas and i got $10,000 to have young men's group in the western edition, and yesterday was actually our last day, and i'm going to have victor tell you a little more about the program. >> we run a group over there at

plaza east. we just graduated eight boys from the ten week program. (applause). >> we run groups all the time, but with this group just a bunch of young men and subjects that affect their lives and violence, sex, drugs and media, and also we also do community projects like we just finished up a community clean up and we had them go around the community and pick up trash and things to help the community and we designed t shirts and hoodies for them like this one right here. (applause). >> yeah. sorry that the kids couldn't be here today. this is a little last minute but we're

glad we could be here to tell you about our program. it was a successful program. the kids loved it. it was a safe space for the kids and kept them off the streets and sorry they couldn't be here but that was our program basically so thank you. >> keep up the great work. all right. so the fun keeps going. now, we're going to hear from our little ones from the african-american arts and cultural center. they're going to recite a poem. life doesn't frighten me at all. a warm round of applause. would just like to say something on behalf of martin luther king and in collaboration with mo magic andella hunch and housing and the african-american arts and culture center. we would like to especially thank miss cheryl davis who has worked tirelessly and the youth program this summer. i mean she stretches herself out and i am one of those and i want you to know we say an extra prayer for you and you really need it. she really works tireless and mr. george smith and london breeze and executive director of the african-american arts and culture center, ross mirkarimi

newsom and the park police station and not last but not least supervisor ross mirkarimi and the many meetings and listening to the needs and desires of the housing development and our community and assisting in developing an action plan that has proven to be beneficial and successful this summer. where there is unity, love, and compassion there is strength. we want to thank all of you for making this happen for our children this summer. >> hello. i am mr. jones. i am ms. johnson's grandson and supervisor mirkarimi as well and i came to deliver a message; that we were are in the current society that was involved in a lot of things. we have been a part of society that has a lot of crime, a lot of violence and a lot of people going to jail. we have been in the environment that a lot of crime has been in also. i wouldn't want to disclose what type of crimes but all that i know these youths that you see before you are the current generation that will go further and higher; that will not only go to college but own

the colleges and build them as well. we will be ceo's of companies. we will be fbi agents or cia or whatever you want to call it and they will go further and higher, and i just wanted to say that the adults have the children and the youth have the youth. the youth it is time for us to make a change. martin lectur luther king and mx did not fight for us to end up like this and end up locked up and most of our brothers away from their kids. they fought furs and i am. >> >> i am here to say to you today that these youth are the ones that will fight and they will also go further and higher, so that's a wonderful speech.
