1:13 pm
fairs can be found by visiting the web site or by calling 311. no fare increases were approved for the current fiscal year. upcoming increases were approved as part of the implantation for the second year in 2010. the mta declared a fiscal emergency that was needed to bridge projected budget shortfalls. proposed funding solutions to bridge the shortfall is included transit service modifications and parking fees in increases. also proposed were transit fee increases as determined by the automatic indexing policy that you are approved, a boat -- blended policy based on the consumer price index for urban consumers. so, we needed to make sure that we reminded the public of those
1:14 pm
changes that would be affecting them on july 1. relating to ongoing activities, the following series of shutdowns this year allows for upgrades to our cable cars and have been completed. work on the california line is wrapping up. shut down no. 3 that occurred last week meant that all three lines were out of service with substitute shuttle bus service available to customers. we employed ambassadors to inform customers about the shutdown and were pleased with the number of employees that serve as ambassadors over the rainy weekend. i would like to especially thank those ambassadors. i also need to update the board and the public on the rapidly growing clipper card program.
1:15 pm
it was the last month for paper passes. 12,000 purchased their passes on june 1 on clipper. over the past two months with 100 events focusing on seniors, including 30 events in walgreen stores. outreach continued throughout june to assist in the use of clipper cards. we are also making the transition as it relates to do it passes. approximately 3400 made passes were loaded. a continued access for outreach on clipper cards will be conducted, including targeting specific neighborhoods. we have improved hand-held devices for transit fare inspectors and cable car operators are being prepared for this major transition where
1:16 pm
we will have 100% of ryder's chip using clipper cards. we will do what we need to do to make sure there is a smooth transition. the next item that i need to cover with you is the sunday street program. continuing its successful run this sunday. this year the route will significantly change from last year. starting at jackson playground and falling 22nd street to the bayview opera house. only the northbound direction will be closed and in addition there will be a street festival between third and new hope, a separately permitted event. sunday streets was recently honored as it was one of eight
1:17 pm
programs selected nationally by the center for disease control for follow-up analysis in the national obesity prevention initiative. live announcements regarding these events are airing on clear channel stations, who will be recognizing and promoting the bayview event on sunday morning. tough information about sun based reit is also available online. >> i wanted to urge members who have not had a chance to go to do so. they are just wonderful and i think they are terrific. it is just a very happy time.
1:18 pm
>> we appreciate that, mr. chairman. we will be launching the weekday express bus pilot. our most heavily popular rail line and customers typically over expand on our peak commute hours. it is expressly designed to reduce peak hour crowding. the morning in bound bus service will operate in bound only from ocean beach starting at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays between 48th avenue and judah. beginning at 19th and continuing nonstop. the last index express bus will leave ocean beach at 9:00 a.m.. in the afternoon the outbound service will operate only between sutter and sandstone

with nonstop service to 19th avenue and judah. local alpenstocks will then be named -- be made between judah and 19th avenue. the index bus will terminate trips at 6:30 p.m.. that will be the last the outbound trip. i dedicated fleet of buses around the roofline and windshield. the logo will be featured prominently on the bus exterior. route maps showed local stops in the express service corridor. in addition we will once again deploy embassadors to educate cousins -- eds -- educate members of the service.
1:20 pm
a new tactic that we can now use with corporate technology. we have picked up additional customer information as part of this program. we are currently running advertisements in local papers and they are accessible to those that have disabilities. feedback is welcome at the website. any questions regarding the amex express service? but will be up on monday. >> what is the frequency? >> i believe that it is one every 10 minutes. once it makes the trip downtown, it will get back to the ocean and make another trip. we are maximizing the number of trips by can be brought in and out of the city, depending on the direction.
1:21 pm
next item, regarding the overflow work, this will take place along south 15th ave. for those of you who relate to landmarks, this is west of the paradise pizza restaurant. the work is being performed it -- i guess that will help with someone. currently seeking between the traffic roadways between rainstorms. the scope of work that should take roughly two weeks, directing the underground water to drain line. reaching out to notify neighbors and the merchants of this upcoming work. that concludes my report. >> any questions or comments? >> [inaudible] >> ok, good.
1:22 pm
>> good afternoon. in the community planner. -- i am of a community planner. i would like to thank the entire staff for partnering with the coalition. thank you for joining many of the staff, the mayor, and supervisors in the work over the last year. we were able to host over 25 energizers stations and recruit 200 volunteers to cheer on the tens of thousands of people that wanted to work that day. the number of people biking on market street continued to rise. thanks in no small part to the amazing work of of staff.
1:23 pm
whether they ride every day or are new to writing, improvements like this are what are getting more people to bike in san francisco and to do it more often. honoring the street section, demonstrating the power of the comfortable separate bike way, next week at the annual awards. it is at the war memorial building next wednesday. we are very proud to be honoring the sf mta hard-working staff. thank you. >> that was a great day. >> actually, my own partner that works in the mission typically takes the n or drives.

[no audio] [inaudible] >> ok. good afternoon. >> i have linked together several e-mails from your correspondent.
1:25 pm
when i hear you talk about accommodations, i would like to say that some of the staff are failing the commendation process. i have already communicated how there are some operators that were told by supervisors two months ago and they have not heard squad. are they being misled? what is happening that it takes so long to go through processing? there is another question of morale but i would like to raise. i have communicated this previously with no response from the board or upper management, the failure of clipper cards to register in an attempt to have it deduct a fee. the operator get past -- what do i do? the operator has to stop, try to explain.
1:26 pm
even with multiple attempts. it slows down the bus. i have asked if mta can try to start to build clipper for their neglect. what is going on that this system is so consistently under- responsive? i have seen this continuing. it happened today and yesterday. it happens several days per week. it is not restricted to a barn. it is pervasive that clipper is not responsive. you have had problems with management under-responsiveness, but few board members of also not taken the lead in acting in a responsible manner to get me the money that it needs. -- mimi -- muni the money that it needs. >> of like to talk to you about
1:27 pm
an important issue regarding the tax industry. from the latest issue of "the new yorker" here is an advertisement. ibm has developed a program to find traffic jams before they happen. boksburg the open access program would do that for cabdrivers and passengers. currently the program is off the table because they said it would ruin their business. the truth is, john [unintelligible] has been reticent about developing that aspect of his business for some years. with open taxi access, every person in san francisco with a hand-held device would be able
1:28 pm
to see all of the cabs in san francisco. all of the people meandering around would be able to find their cab within a few blocks. touch the screen, speak to the driver nearby, just to pick them up. they would be able to say yes, that is me waving. i cannot imagine a better program. something that would empower the people more. it would make every person into their own dispatcher. it would be the google map of dispatch. service has nothing to do with the number of cabs on the road. it only begins when the passenger gets in the vehicle and that can only happen with this batch. please revisit the program. it would be a fantastic way of gaining driver support showing that good will with 4% of the
1:29 pm
money you have accrued this year. >> [inaudible] >> good afternoon, directors. there were arrangements done that the drivers would go to these town hall meetings. in this respect we went with our fullest, honest wishes to solve the problem at these town hall meetings. when we go to these meetings? what do we get? people saying -- i understand the drivers do not want it. ok. they say i want to take that part out and
