and is home to aover 1200 employees. we will be launching one national television network, six regional television networks, and an additional network. as we have announced previously, we have distribution agreements with four of the most powerful cable companies in the cable industry. including comcast, time warner, cox, and brighthouse. if you live in the bay area, we will be part of your basic cable package with comcast. i would like to acknowledge and thank our new neighbor, the leader of comcast sportsnet. for his help in this process. when you live in a neighborhood,
12:02 am
some neighbors swap eggs for making cookies. we will be swapping television cameras with ted's group. as part of our programming mix, we will televised 850 live sporting events across our 12 campuses each year. that does not include hundreds more that we will eventually strain on our digital network. our event mix will include 34 football games, over 125 men's basketball games, over 40 women's basketball games, and another 650 olympic sports events which our conference dominates on an annual basis. in fact, the pac 12 has won several competitive championships. what is most gratifying of all, our dynamic student athletes in all sports will be given the increased national exposure they
12:03 am
so richly deserved. speaking of athletes, we have quite a list of former pac 12 star athletes and coaches and i will introduce them in a moment. first, we would not be standing here today if it was not for the support of mayor ed lee. aside from the vision he has for bringing technology and entertainment companies to san francisco, it does not hurt that he has a law degree from cal, so he is a pac 12 guy. it is my pleasure to introduce mayor ed lee. [applause] >> good morning, everyone. this is exciting. the most exciting thing is that san francisco is doing all the right things to signal that we want to make sure people know though role of technology is our future. it is a big part of our present in terms of business, but the
12:04 am
way that we do and think. so when gary and larry met with me a few months ago, we talked about the need for speed. when you look at all these athletes here, they move in their own sports with a great indeliberate speed. i wanted to show them as much as to gary and larry we could move with speed as well to complement the kind of athleticism our stars are representing. san francisco has been very fortunate. we have had this past year the cal bears play at at&t part. we have had the higfight hunger bowl. we want to make sure that that content of these athletes gets distributed as widely as possible and that is why when i
12:05 am
heard the interest of the pac 12 to locate their media center here, we jumped on it. with all the innovative we have here, it would be a very short time that that media distribution could be blended with all the thousands of possible applications to get the content out into every possible mode and for our athletes present in the -- and in the future, it would be great for them. they could be viewed at people at their comfort but at their most exciting than is possible. we're here not only to signal our support. we know that this will be over 125 jobs by the end of the year. they told us that if the city is interested, we have got to start, they have to be able to broadcast by august. we went into that speed mode, that final two-minute drill to make sure we're able to get this thing started right away.
12:06 am
we are excited here. this media center is all about that land. -- blend. we can distinguish here and what would have happened if it was the los angeles region and we're happy they chose here because this is our future. i believe it is the future of sports content delivery throughout the west coast and the world. we're glad to make sure they're not only west coast distribution, we think with your media center, it will be worldwide distribution. that is where we want to be. we want to make sure the media center has a worldwide ability and to match up the talent we have here. thank you. i am so happy to start drilling holes and building new walls. congratulations to all of us working together. larry as well and to all the athletes here. i may be the shortest guy here but i move pretty fast, too. thank you. [applause]

>> larry scott came to the pac 12 with a plan and vision to reenergize the conference and lift it to new heights. after an expansion, negotiating and new blockbuster television agreement with fox and espn that guaranteed national exposure, he announced his vision for pac 12 enterprises which is being realized here today. it is almost like giving birth, isn't it? it is my pleasure to introduce larry scott. and our presidents and chancellors that guide the conference as our board of directors, i want to thank everyone who has been part of the process to bring us here today. this is truly a seminal moment for the conference. it is an exciting time in college sports in general. there is no more exciting place to be that in the pac 12. we have a dynamic and bold vision for college sports and the future of our conference. it is an exciting time for television and technology in general. our conference aims to be not just a leader in college sports, but also leading the way in terms of the future of content and distribution through many different technologies. and launching seven networks in august as opposed to one and all that will follow from that is an indication of a new model. we look at our conference as in the corridor of innovation out
12:09 am
here on the west coast. when you look at our schools, you look at the markets we're in, the entertainment capital of the world in los angeles, technology capital of the world in the bay area, we could not think of a better place to be to signal our intentions, a signal what is special and unique about our universities that to be here in san francisco. i cannot overstate the significance of this to our schools and to the student athletes. as gary mentioned, our conference has unprecedented said -- success over sports having one more championships than any other. what it means to the athletes, alumni, and fans is amazing. every football game and every men's basketball game will be broadcast on television nationally either through espn and fox or through the pac 12 networks. equally significant, if n the oc sports events that will be
12:10 am
telecast. far more than any conference has had on television. what that will mean to our student athletes for the best of the best in what they do to be up to be seen by their families, to fall by passionate -- followed by a passionate fans will get our conference, the advantages going forward. there's a lot of excitement, a lot of buzz about what this will mean for our conference and college sports. a lot of people to thank for bringing this to reality. i want to commend gary stevenson, the president of pac 12 and prizes for the amazing team he is putting together to bring this to realization and have this be a great success for schools and to all parties that are working with him and especially to mayor lee, who has been such a great visionary and advocate for this city and in
12:11 am
such a great facilitator. the city has overachieved on everything. we are on schedule and they are thrilled we -- with the partnership will have with the city to show cash -- showcase all that is new and innovative. thank you for your support. it is a historic day for the pac 12 conference and we're excited about the future. 12:24 am
have one of the lead designers for the architecture firm hlw give you a three-d -- 3d tour. we will have ten more as we are developing the look and feel for the building. we want you to imagine what this space will look like in six or seven months. it will be quite a transformation. carlos from hlw will lead us through that door. -- that tour. carlos? [applause] >> good morning. a couple of things before we get started. we're excited to be working with pac 12 and we're working feverishly to capture the energy we saw in the video. there is no music to the video we will be showing so you'll have to do with my monotone voice for a while. if we could go to the portal view.
12:25 am
we will walk you through the choice moments we've designed around the facility. we will get back to the portal. typically i am the one that controls this. give me one second. ok. what we will do is take you through the initial look at the site. what we have here is the portal. we wanted to create something that when you walk through you would feel a sense of crushing -- crossing a threshold. this was the idea of connecting different spaces with the sources of flight. go back in the other direction. push down, the down arrow.
12:26 am
there we go. what we wanted to do is play off that idea of connecting spaces. the first thing you see as you enter the facility will be as to go through this portal, the pac 12 shield and it will have these strands of light coming through. these points of light. something we saw in that video is the lights pass through multiple services. we did not want to contain it to one wall. what you see is the idea of the lights going on multiple services, wrapping around the ceiling. -- multiple surfaces, wrapping around the ceiling. we wanted something that would play off the simple geometry so it would be clean and have a presence and we wanted to have some elements of the pac 12. we have created a detail that
12:27 am
shows the details of the schools in the conference. within this lobby, it is a grand lobby and a big space. we wanted to start to condense the space is more to our human scale. here you see off the reception desk there will be a seating area. we started to articulate the ceiling and the floor surface. to give you a sense of being within a space within a larger space. in that zone, we will have a live feed of what is being broadcast outside the facility. the idea of we do know why you to forget where you are one to come in. he will start to see what is happening behind the scenes. -- you will start to see what is happening behind the scenes. there is the idea of what -- having an interactive digital medium. what you see is a projector and the idea is visitors and employees will go to the projection and play with the interactive -- it interactively. there is a coffee bar off the
12:28 am
lobby. it is that space that goes off to the side so people will be able to go in. they feel as though they are not in the lobby. the idea again, it is a powerful idea. the language that is being set up as you saw in that video. the idea of flights being connected. space is being connected by these sources of light. -- the idea of lights being connected. we're also doing it in the ground. you see an l.e.d. source that will take you to the portal and the reception desk and the stairs that connect this space is at two levels. as you progress down the stair, we want to keep in mind where we are. it is a place where we are broadcasting sports. it is a fun space. it is a space that is not a sleek, modern office. some of the touches is there is
12:29 am
a scoreboard. you see the scoreboard that pays homage to the advance where we are broadcasting but it gives you an -- up-to-date scores of what is happening, what will be on tv, what is planning live in the studio. -- playing live in the studio. as we wrap down the staircase, this is something that is in the west coast, so we wanted to go straight through. a lot of the inspiration is based on the great outdoors. what you see here is black lines, representative of cable, steel rods that come down. that idea out of walking down next to a waterfall is something we wanted to mimic. as you walk down the staircase, there's the sharing of the lights, the material that you can rub your hands next year. on the right side, you will see our interpretation of what it would feel like to
