the sba guaranteeing a entity as the order of the business, whether it is a corporation or partnership, for any small business lending, you should expect to be guaranteeing that long personally. as a small-business owner, from a lender's point of view, we want to see that you are as invested in the business as you are asking the bank to be. the idea that non recourse loans, the way you describe it, loans that you get without having yourself personally liable is not the way it works. you should assume you will guarantee the loan regardless of the structure of your business. the good news, though, for businesses like you are describing, internet business, is that the capital requirements
7:01 am
for that type of business is generally small. you are able to get yourself further along and share in revenues with a smaller amount of credit need. that is where we see a lot of businesses and personal service or internet business get started, and generate revenues and be able to show growth without needing any capital, like a brick and mortar business might. >> my name is terry said. i have a retail business in san francisco for 22 years. i have a 5 04 -- 504 loan. it took me three years to get. we need more capital. i tried to get a line of credit from wells capital. i was decline. where does someone like myself go? i have a loan, i need additional funding. >> did you try through the sba?
7:02 am
>> i already have an sba loan. i went to wells fargo for a line of credit and they would not give me one. >> i can speak to you about it. when we look at funds that are needed, the biggest thing we look at our cash flow. i can address that with you. unless there is an issue, at that point -- [inaudible] >> let's talk, ok. >> i have a couple of more questions. i know that the panelists have agreed to stay after for those who have specific questions. i do have one question for wells fargo.
7:03 am
what are the typical rules for applying for sba loan of less than $50,000? how much money do we need to have in your bank to apply for a loan? >> i am on the smaller side of the bank. i am a transaction guy. i do not technically require one to have an account to do a loan with. what i look for, i generally start at 100,000 and up. when it is a requirement of 50,000 or less, i tend to call of the micro guys to help me out. that is right in their box. for us, the capacity for us to do the smaller side is not there as much as it is for them.
7:04 am
on getting a loan through my side of the bank, i do not require an account to do that. we would like to have it, but i do not require it. >> last question for the opportunity fund and a critic representative. are you a cdfi? is san francisco and s.p.a. in support of cdfi's being established in san francisco? >> yes, we are. we were founded in 1999 with a small business loan. that is how we started our tenderloin office. >> opportunity fund is a certified cdfi, so we are providing a benefit to low and moderate-income communities.
7:05 am
he is the city establishing support for new cdfi's? >> mark wanted to address that, in support of cdfi's in the city. >> we have a wealth of partners in the city. s.p.a. is just now rolling out a program for r -- will be the case by the summer. let me get one last point and on the question about relationships to lenders. the question was, do have to have an account with a bank in order to get a loan? may answer is no, but the real answer to it is certainly want to do that. one of the things we see as an important thing for you, as a
7:06 am
small-business person to establish a relationship with a lender on a variety of levels before you look for funding. part of that is opening an account with them, letting a lender know about your business, understand your business, talk to them as you are growing your business. when the economy is strong, all lenders are shopping for transactions. in times are tough on credit, you want to rely on those deeper liberation ships with your lender. you want to develop a relationship with a lender. it is the case where you want to open up an account, while to have another bank services that you want to have a relationship with your lender with it because when you go to them for any loan requests, you want them to know about your business and feel like they are a partner of yours, not just that you are shopping them. if you are shopping, you are just looking for the best deal
7:07 am
from them, rather than a long- term relationship. >> i want to thank everyone for coming. hopefully, you have all signed up for our updates. we are going to be hosting these on a regular basis. the next two coming up will focus on becoming a government contractor, how your small business can partner with the government. the next one will also be on how to grain your business, with tax -- green your business, tax credits available with that. for non-profit, charitable organizations, we have a workshop coming up. that is helpful for those of you who are looking to access the committee on a durable basis.
7:08 am
>> also, on behalf of leader pelosi, i want to thank our panel and her staff. we are tenants in this building. i apologize for the security situation that happened upstairs. if you have concerns about it, please come and see me. i would like to convey those to the landlord here so that it does not happen again. thank you.

employees. we will be launching one national television network, six regional television networks, and an additional network. as we have announced previously, we have distribution agreements with four of the most powerful cable companies in the cable industry. including comcast, time warner, cox, and brighthouse. if you live in the bay area, we will be part of your basic cable package with comcast. i would like to acknowledge and thank our new neighbor, the leader of comcast sportsnet. for his help in this process. when you live in a neighborhood, some neighbors swap eggs for making cookies.
7:12 am
we will be swapping television cameras with ted's group. as part of our programming mix, we will televised 850 live sporting events across our 12 campuses each year. that does not include hundreds more that we will eventually strain on our digital network. our event mix will include 34 football games, over 125 men's basketball games, over 40 women's basketball games, and another 650 olympic sports events which our conference dominates on an annual basis. in fact, the pac 12 has won several competitive championships. what is most gratifying of all, our dynamic student athletes in all sports will be given the increased national exposure they so richly deserved. speaking of athletes, we have
7:13 am
quite a list of former pac 12 star athletes and coaches and i will introduce them in a moment. first, we would not be standing here today if it was not for the support of mayor ed lee. aside from the vision he has for bringing technology and entertainment companies to san francisco, it does not hurt that he has a law degree from cal, so he is a pac 12 guy. it is my pleasure to introduce mayor ed lee. [applause] >> good morning, everyone. this is exciting. the most exciting thing is that san francisco is doing all the right things to signal that we want to make sure people know though role of technology is our future. it is a big part of our present in terms of business, but the way that we do and think. so when gary and larry met with
7:14 am
me a few months ago, we talked about the need for speed. when you look at all these athletes here, they move in their own sports with a great indeliberate speed. i wanted to show them as much as to gary and larry we could move with speed as well to complement the kind of athleticism our stars are representing. san francisco has been very fortunate. we have had this past year the cal bears play at at&t part. we have had the higfight hunger bowl. we want to make sure that that content of these athletes gets distributed as widely as possible and that is why when i heard the interest of the pac 12 to locate their media center
7:15 am
here, we jumped on it. with all the innovative we have here, it would be a very short time that that media distribution could be blended with all the thousands of possible applications to get the content out into every possible mode and for our athletes present in the -- and in the future, it would be great for them. they could be viewed at people at their comfort but at their most exciting than is possible. we're here not only to signal our support. we know that this will be over 125 jobs by the end of the year. they told us that if the city is interested, we have got to start, they have to be able to broadcast by august. we went into that speed mode, that final two-minute drill to make sure we're able to get this thing started right away. we are excited here. this media center is all about that land. -- blend.
7:16 am
we can distinguish here and what would have happened if it was the los angeles region and we're happy they chose here because this is our future. i believe it is the future of sports content delivery throughout the west coast and the world. we're glad to make sure they're not only west coast distribution, we think with your media center, it will be worldwide distribution. that is where we want to be. we want to make sure the media center has a worldwide ability and to match up the talent we have here. thank you. i am so happy to start drilling holes and building new walls. congratulations to all of us working together. larry as well and to all the athletes here. i may be the shortest guy here but i move pretty fast, too. thank you. [applause]
7:17 am
>> larry scott came to the pac 12 with a plan and vision to reenergize the conference and lift it to new heights. after an expansion, negotiating and new blockbuster television agreement with fox and espn that guaranteed national exposure, he announced his vision for pac 12 enterprises which is being realized here today. it is almost like giving birth, isn't it? it is my pleasure to introduce larry scott. [applause] >> thanks very much. great to see such a terrific turnout today. this is such an exciting moment in the history of the pac 12 conference. on behalf all 12 universities and our presidents and chancellors that guide the conference as our board of directors, i want to thank
7:18 am
everyone who has been part of the process to bring us here today. this is truly a seminal moment for the conference. it is an exciting time in college sports in general. there is no more exciting place to be that in the pac 12. we have a dynamic and bold vision for college sports and the future of our conference. it is an exciting time for television and technology in general. our conference aims to be not just a leader in college sports, but also leading the way in terms of the future of content and distribution through many different technologies. and launching seven networks in august as opposed to one and all that will follow from that is an indication of a new model. we look at our conference as in the corridor of innovation out here on the west coast. when you look at our schools, you look at the markets we're in, the entertainment capital of
7:19 am
the world in los angeles, technology capital of the world in the bay area, we could not think of a better place to be to signal our intentions, a signal what is special and unique about our universities that to be here in san francisco. i cannot overstate the significance of this to our schools and to the student athletes. as gary mentioned, our conference has unprecedented said -- success over sports having one more championships than any other. what it means to the athletes, alumni, and fans is amazing. every football game and every men's basketball game will be broadcast on television nationally either through espn and fox or through the pac 12 networks. equally significant, if n the oc sports events that will be telecast. far more than any conference has had on television.
7:20 am
what that will mean to our student athletes for the best of the best in what they do to be up to be seen by their families, to fall by passionate -- followed by a passionate fans will get our conference, the advantages going forward. there's a lot of excitement, a lot of buzz about what this will mean for our conference and college sports. a lot of people to thank for bringing this to reality. i want to commend gary stevenson, the president of pac 12 and prizes for the amazing team he is putting together to bring this to realization and have this be a great success for schools and to all parties that are working with him and especially to mayor lee, who has been such a great visionary and advocate for this city and in such a great facilitator. the city has overachieved on everything. we are on schedule and they are
7:21 am

7:22 am
realty and their team were the partners for us. it helps that he is a usc graduate. i would like you to introduce you to john kilroy, the owner of this building. >> thanks rog. it is a terrific day. on behalf of my colleagues and our shareholders, i welcome you and your team and you're growing employee group to this building. it is not quite finished yet but it is going to be a terrific facility. as the landlord, where the largest provider of technology and media space in san francisco and elsewhere, and down the coast. it is great to deal with people in media. there are a lot of fun and exciting. in this case, pac 12 and what they represent, the immense
