weiner doing a great job not only representing this district but the entire city. welcome to san francisco's largest transgender pride celebration of the year. one of the largest transevents anywhere on the planet earth. let me tell you, you looking fabulous. this is a wonderful community. one of my favorite events. been here every one of the nine years. we're going to have our 109 anniversary next year. let me just -- 10th anniversary next year. it has been a real honor, privilege and pleasure working with the transcommunity going back to my days on the board of supervisors when we formed the first transgender civil rights implementation task force from which came the first of its kind local ordinance making sure that there was equal access to the county health plan for our transgender employees of san francisco.

when we got to sacramento, one of our first bills was to amend the california fair employment and housing act to include gender identity. so we have had an inclusive employment and housing nondiscrimination act here in california since 2003 and i'm very confident that when we re-elect barack obama and make sure that nancy pelosi is once again speaker of the house of representatives, that we'll have an incruste collusive employment nondiscrimination act out of washington, d.c. finally. so have a great time this weekend. be safe. be smart. celebrate who we are in every form and every fashion and let me say that our individual and collective voices will not be silent until every human being

san francisco for almost eight years. i'm proud to stand with you for transrights and i'm proud also to have stood with you in 2004 in the march that year to make sure that everybody recognizes the diversity of our community and stands with each and every member here in san francisco. have a great pride, everyone. [applause] >> i'm christina lagi. i represent district five. haigt asbury. i'm really proud to be here. people told me i'm the first outside sexual member of the board of supervisors and i'm happy to stand here in solidarity with the transcommunity. i think the sun has come out is a sign the universe is saying yes to transgendered equality and rights. we stand in solidarity with the

events happening also in different cities. so it shows, you know, that if we continue this, we will show everyone we can win this war on discrimination. for project insight. canadians supported the recreation programs are too sick children. >> learn more >> this is holly lee knox. there are some proud pet owners in san francisco and they have brought all their pets here to strut their stuff. >> it's an annual event that we've had. this is our 18th year. we bring in rescue groupers, vendors, supporters, lots and lots of animals.

it's a proud day for us and for the animals of san francisco. >> the costume contest is really fun. people get really creative. it's a really fun event. people go all out, create costumes, buy costumes, whatever it is. but there's some really fun ones. >> we're just celebrating the pets and just their companionship and how they are invaluable. so everybody's having fun. >> we're the city's open door shelter. that means we take in every animal that comes through our door regardless of age, condition, species, everything in the city comes through us that is in need. >> animal care control, it is such an important agency and is very understaffed, has very few

resources. but we make animals don't have a home, that we get them a home and that we don't put the animals to sleep, that we're able to adopt them out. >> we have a huge number of volunteers who come in and they will walk our dogs, socialize our animals, play with cats, play with them, bring them to adoption events today. >> i volunteer with the animal control center and i do that every week. >> we're in an organization called friends of a.c.c. with that organization, you can donate money if you don't have time. if you do have time, you can come down to the shelter and volunteer to actually have one-on-one time with the animals. if you're like me and you don't have time to give to an animal, if you actually have one of your own, you can get your fix on the
