consider support, they will bring competitively priced medical cannabis to this district, they should deny the appeal for his demolition. >> next speaker, please. >> my name's jennifer and i'm a glaucoma patient and a member of the green cross and i'm here today to speak primarily to address the concerns of the residents, to let them know we hear them, understand them and we are not drug users, we are medical patients in need of medicine and we respect their needs and also to say the need of a walk-in facility is important for us to have access to consultation with your doctors and pharmacists. >> thank you. >> my name is daniel and i am also a member of the green cross and have been with them for three years, you can't find another organization in san francisco that is more
8:31 pm
responsible than the green cross and kevin read. i feel this whole thing is based on fear like jennifer said, we are the face of the people that need the medicine, we're not smoking in front of their children, we're being responsible in front of their children, let them open their store, please. >> next speaker, please. >> hello, thank you for giving me an opportunity to speak. my name is david lee, i live exactly one block from the proposed eventual medical cannabis dispensary. i have a 7 year-old and an 11 year-old, they have a lot of little cousins that come constantly. my concern is for the safety really. i don't know much about the medical marijuana, but i want to make sure that there's no
8:32 pm
drug abuse, if there's traffic safety, if there's people -- if they have marijuana, i want to make sure they're not driving because they'll be crossing the street, it impacts me directly, that's why i hope my concerns are addressed sufficiently, i feel it would be better if they moved the dispensary to a less -- a less children neighborhood. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> good evening again commissioners and members of the public, star child, lib tairn party for san francisco, the two items i spoke with here on tonight had to do with public property and use of common space in san francisco
8:33 pm
and tearing out grass in golden gate park, to me, those are legitimate items, this is an issue of private property and i believe people have to right to do with their own property we wouldn't all be wasting our time here tonight. this is not visible to the public, the work being done. i have a concern as well with democratic process here. i would request my remarks be translated into mandarin, there's a whole room full of people who are not hearing these remarks and some of them don't speak english and i believe they may not even be in some cases informed about the issue, they're being novelized tonight to speak to, i spoke with mr. chow, the proponent and it was -- >> yes, your time is up.
8:34 pm
>> i'll leave it at that then. >> and just for the record, we are providing translation services so all of this proceeding is being -- we have a lot of headsets, subtitles are thot translated, it's for the people here who requested interpretation services. >> good evening, any name is tsu chen, when i see the [inaudible], the neighborhood turns lousy, i have two teenagers, i don't want my kids to know it's easy to get their stuff, i don't want them to get it easy. when i give a good idea for the green cross, they don't need to open the store there, they need to provide a home delivery, so
8:35 pm
they don't need a store, all they need is a home delivery service, that's it. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> my name is bryan, i'm a father of three. >> excuse me. >> i'm a father of three and i support the green cross, it's a public benefit non-profit that provides high quality, low cost medication to me and it doesn't negatively affect my family, my kids are honor role student and is it has positively affected my family life. thank you. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> good evening, members of the board, my name is stephen, i'm a long-time san francisco rez dents and a medical cannabis patient, i'm here in support of the green cross, i go to the green cross for all my medical
8:36 pm
needs, they are affordable, i am also a current neighbor of their delivery service, their employees are polite and courteous, they should be allowed to continue their passionate service to the people and patients of san francisco, i urge you to allow this project to move forward. >> thank you. >> next speak e please. er >> my name is gerald, i've been a resident and a member or patient of the green cross for the past two years, in all my interaction with thel, i have had nothing but professional and positive interactions with them, i don't believe the appeal going on tonight is relevant to the store opening in the sense that the appeal is not directly relevant to the actual medical cannabis dispensary. thank you. >> thank you.
8:37 pm
>> next speaker, please. >> hi, good evening, my name is [inaudible] and i've been if the neighborhood, nice for medical cannabis, that's all i would like to say. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> good evening, my name is neighborhood for i've been so many years, that area is a very busy area, a lot of traffic and a lot of kids walk to school, and some of the young, you know like teenagers, i went to ocean street and they just go in and got it, i got it, i can use that now legally, legally, trick, pretend they are very sick so they can get that stuff and use it. it's just not very safe for the kids, thank you. >> thank you. >> is there anyone else in the room here who would like to speak? and also ms. wong, is there
8:38 pm
anyone else coming from the other rooms? okay. you can have them come into the room, or at least in small groups. >> go ahead. >> okay, i speak a little, my name is may -- >> why don't you waited because we're timing these. >> hello, everyone, my name is may jun, i'm so glad to be here. i'm very glad to be here. i object for, like, demolition,
8:39 pm
remodel or construct this kind of mcd in our area. i believe hospital will be a bet -- better place for selling or to monitor and control this medicine because the quality of the -- the quantity they provide is very limited. i believe this is something to do with discrimination. i believe appeal of this store is being allowed to operate in mission, i believe mission is being singled out. even though this is being
8:40 pm
authorized and approved by the board, however, there's underground sale which they illegally selling this type of drug which in turn is affecting our neighborhood. i represent our residents, we are in fear about this. so, it directly affected the financially and like the safety and also the livelihood of our children. thank you for listening. >> okay, thank you, next speaker, please.
8:41 pm
>> i'm representing the ten people behind me, would you please raise your hand. today, i have presented two documents. this particular list will demonstrate what is the difference and also similarity between 4218 mission and taraville street. the mcd people said we cannot just compare these two places, however, as a resident of san francisco, we have the right to make comparison of these two cases.
8:42 pm
i believe in 2010 that number 19, proposition 19, we are the same like the sunset distribute, we have quite a number of people objecting to mcd. in that comparison, our 421 location, in fact, we have more sensitive facility in this particular area. this type of entity that exists within the 1 thousand feet would make an mcd in this location not appropriate. chris hwang has once been quoted as follows, thus, the types of entities that exist
8:43 pm
within the 1 thousand feet impact would make an mcd in this location not appropriate, so therefore, i think this is being true. when you look at the taraville comparison, the nearest mcd is within 1.8 miles, however, when you look at the mission district one, we have like 6 of this in radius around the area and the closest one is only 1.2 miles in distance. this is for the moment that i want to speak about today. this is for the ten people
8:44 pm
8:45 pm
>> my name is emay ching. >> my name is may wu. >> thank you. >> my name is tau chen. >> thank you. >> my name is uwan jong. >> thank you. >> hi, i'm representing the four behind me. my name is albert chair and i'm representing monica learning center at 399 mission street. the owners as well as the dozens or over 100 families of the areas that make use of our tutoring centers oppose the granting of a medical cannabis
8:46 pm
dispensary at 4218 mission street, we feel that they will cause harm to the family, we urge the concerns and anxieties of working normal families to eke out a living in the area be taken into account. thank you: >> thank you, next speaker, please. >> my name is may cituu i object the mcd to operate in our neighborhood. they said that there's no influence or any effect having the mcd operate in the area,
8:47 pm
why there's no influence, why it's not affecting? so, if they said it's not affecting the neighborhood, how come they hire so many security guards to be in front of their door and to maintain like law and order? so, even though themselves realize that their presence will affect the neighborhood, so therefore our objection is reasonable. that's all. >> thank you. >> my name's yen see, i object
8:48 pm
to have mcd to be in our area. >> if the speakers could come closer, that would be -- speed things up a little bit and they can pick out their card while the next speaker is speaking. >> my name is leng si. i am only two blocks away from 4218, i'm just only two blocks away from this facility. i have two young children and i do not want them to be there so it will affect my two young children in the neighborhood. that's all. >> thank you.
8:49 pm
>> my name is redi chunk. i object mcd. if that's going to be open there, it will affect the school and also like the [inaudible] and affect the school district in that area, i object to that. so, plus i have a few children and also like grandchildren, i do not want to affect their upbringing. so, i hope that the appeal will be opposed and then we will see a good result. thank you. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> hi, my name is ye oh em
8:50 pm
chang. i feel if operating for the mcd in our neighborhood, there would be no safety and we feel all the time we have crime, and also affect the children around the area and in their mind, they think marijuana is legally in our neighborhood. that's really affect the children's future. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> my name is ku way kong, i object to mcd to be opened up in my neighborhood. that's all. >> thank you. >> hi, my name is vivian tom. i have three young children. i object that the mcd -- i want
8:51 pm
my next generation to be better so they don't have to pass by the area because every single day, they have to walk by that place. thank you. >> thank you. >> my name is peggy. i object to that. >> thank you. >> so, my name is can jew, i object to have the mcd place to be there. we live in that area and then every single day, we have to pass that particular area. i do
8:52 pm
not want -- our air will be polluted with the smell of the marijuana. thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> my name is ku len yaoe. i object mcd. because it will affect the children as well as the safety of the area. >> yeah. >> my name is beijing wong, i object to mcd because the smell of the marijuana will pollute the air. thank you. >> my name is fen knee yu, i object to open an mcd in the area.
8:53 pm
because i believe in an area where they open the mcd, the safety and the security in the area is not going to be good. >> thank you. >> my name is joanne chan. i live in the area and i have two sons. i do not want it to affect my neighborhood, the safety as well as the health issues in our neighborhood. >> thank you. >> my name is helen lee. i object to have the mcd store open there because it will affect the children because the
8:54 pm
children go to school in the area. thank you. >> my name is yen gee wong. i object to mcd, i know to date you're talking about the permit is more like a building permit, however i wanted the city to be concerned like when they get the permit, what are they going to use the permit to do, what are they going to do with it. if they are getting a permit for something which is like good for people like let's say a bakery that is for the people, that is okay, let's say
8:55 pm
if they open up something like for selling marijuana, those are things are not good for people, it is not good for the community to have them sell things like that in the area. thank you. >> thank you. >> my name is hazel kong. i know today you're just talking about the building permit, however, i know eventually they are going to sell marijuana in the area. i do not object to those people who have a health issue that need to take that kind of drug, i am not objecting that, but
8:56 pm
however, when you smell the marijuana, generally it's like these young folks or young kids in the area, you can almost find that the same many the entire san francisco, like on the bus, you can almost smell that from the young folks. i also live in mission district for over 20 years because the district is becoming better and better every day because now if you have the mcd store open there, it's going to go bad again because they have a high school which is the balboa high school and there's three middle schools in the area and also there's lots of like elementary
8:57 pm
school or grade school in the area too. there's a lot of bus stops and then the students will be waiting at the bus stop so the kids will run over there. that's all i want to say. >> thank you. >> my name is bee one lee. during that appeal case in sunset district, chris hwang at one point, has said the following, the interpreter is reading a statement presented by the speaker, the outpouring of the community is also very compelling here. this is clearly a concern for the public in this particular community and i think that way strongly in my thinking, weighs strongly in my thinking, that appeal should be granted.
8:58 pm
so, therefore, i bring a few pictures today just to demonstrate that the 4218mcd at the mission district is in fact -- has been significantly objected by the majority of the residents there. so, you can see the picture, this is in 2012, april, at that time, this is like when we have objections of the marijuana store and we have a demonstration, you could see that on the pictures. you could tell by looking at the pictures, the participant in that demonstration is in the
8:59 pm
hundreds, not necessarily only asian, they have adults and children, so therefore objecting of mcd is not because we have the differences in cultural -- we have difference in culture, even though people thought it was bibecause of a cultural difference, so please also respect our culture because in our district, there's more than 50% of the population are asian. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> next speaker, please. >> my name is twi yang lee. i object to mcd store to open there
