>> when the new california academy of sciences opened in 2008, it quickly became one of the top tourist magnets in the city. part of the cal academies' astronomical success is the weekly nightlife party. >> i am joined by helen, who is here to school me on all the nocturnal activities that are getting ready to take place here. tell us a little about what we can expect to see at nightlife.

>> we open up the doors every thursday night at the california academy of sciences. there are certain things you can see every week you can go to the museum, visit the planetarium, and we bring in bars and a deejay or band. it is a different feel from during the day, something different every week. tonight , we have beer and music. -- tonight we have great beer and music. it is beer week. we have a dozen local brewers in african hall. we have a deejays to set up throughout the museum and a live performance at 9:00 p.m. tonight. >> what has been your favorite part as a participant or as an observer? >> my favorite part is to walk around the aquarium in to see people with a drink in their hands, getting to know maybe somebody new, may be looking for a day, or chatting with friends. there jellyfish. i mean, they are beautiful.

>> the culmination of the animals. >> it is very impressive. we do not have this at home. >> tell us a little about some of the spider's we see here on display. >> at the california academy of sciences, there is a very large collection of preserved and live specimens, which are the evidence about evolution. we have the assassin spiders, which are spiders that exclusively kill and eat other spiders. they are under the microscope here. research done and the california academy's i rhinology lab suggests that the assassin spiders have been doing this for over 150 million years. this glassed in room is a real scientific laboratory, and the people in that room are

preparing specimens of vertebrate, that is mammals and birds. the way they do this is to remove the skin, sew it together in a relatively lifelike pose, and ensure that it does not decompose. >> i am a really big class actress fan, so i am here to see them, and beer week. >> i wanted to learn something and have fun. >> i always enjoy it. i am not all is well -- always working as i am tonight. sometimes i come to enjoy the music and to dance. ♪ >> culturewire covers the arts in san francisco, and one of my favorite culture artists is here tonight. jason, thank you for being on culturewire. tell us about some of your posters that we have here today. >> most of the posters here are

yes, part of it, we were doing the california shake-up drill with 9.3 million in the state of california, but i think there was vibrations. mayor mathews and mayor reed were jumping up and down because i told them we were putting together something that would not only be a great way to work together but something they have also been personally wishing could happen and be led by the city. so today we are of course unveiling our promotional launch but getting here has been something on my mind. it's been one of those very solid topic that jen and i spent good time together. my office, where i call it inappropriately the man cave, but it is a place where i think we have had a chance to talk about the

honest going relationship that the niners, the oldest professional sports franchise in the state of california, that's still here in the state of california. it is wonderful to have this opportunity. we have other ideas we can't talk about yet because they are not matured but this came to us fast. it was an opportunity we have rarely. but to be able to be invited by the national football league to submit a bid and build up a course of support is incredibly helpful to the city. i have been looking for those days where we celebrated just as enthusiastically those super bowl wins with joe montana, steve young and coming down market street. as we did with the giants a year and a half to two years ago. these were incredible inspirational opportunities

we have, now hosting a super bowl. being part of a bay area effort to bring this incredibly helpful event that isn't just one few hours worth of games. there's all kinds of events that happen during super bowl week. i believe that the bulk of them will be hosted here in san francisco because this will be where we reflect strong infrastructure of tourism, where we host things and do well. this is what san francisco is about. we have an incredible committee of people that have volunteered and put forth i want to be part of this team effort to, build a bay area super bowl event that will be not only long lasting for the sports itself but with daniel's leadership and supervisor feral that's been such an incredible partner in the dialogue to help us form

our ideas. and for somebody who's spnt his personal time creating the educational links between our school district and kids and parents, to created a decisional open space in private efforts, we have the right team. today, in concert with mayor mathews and mayor reed with people in business, philanthropy, academia coming together, certainly under the very large umbrella of wanting and wishing and making sure this is the most philanthropic event the world's ever seen. it is appropriately hosted in san francisco. i have often heard when something happens in the city they want it to city. when something happens in

san francisco, we want the whole world to know about it. this is a stage. super bowl will be a stage we want to announce to the whole world. in that effort i want to make sure you know we don't leave out what i think is happening with great organizations like sf city and our technology companies, that we want to embrace technology as a way to announce this. so with that i am going to do the first tweet. tweeting. the new hash tag we would like everybody in the bay area to also utilize in their effort to go viral on this. there it goes. hopefully it goes on there. the hash tag sf super bowl!
