6:30 pm
decision-making process that the board of education takes on issues this directly impacts our students we want to take that moment to thank them for their dedication to parents voices. over the course of 10 years we've had 71 former pack members and currently, we have 12 serving on the board and we just did our recruitment process we have 6 new members and we're excited about what they're going to bring to the table. we really want to recognize that each parents came to the table with 0 their expertise and brought in that parents piece that's really important in this
6:31 pm
partnership with community based organizations parents and the districts. we need those 3 pieces of to help us. and so that's what packs has been able to do. likewise we want to take a moment to honor and thank ruth the former pack coordinator who took the pack to a whole other level and made it a high functioning body to come to give an entity to initiatives and open that dialog between district staff and parents. so we want to thank her for all the work she did to create a sustainable body to her commitment to fame engagement.
6:32 pm
and we look forward to continue working with her. we look forward to fulfilling our commitment and doing that job together >> thank you and i'm happy to be part of this pack. >> i'd like to thank you georgia for our report brown but before you go we have a certify of appreciation and a congratulation certificate we'd like to present it. before we present it i'd like to turn it back over the president norton >> comments from board members? thank you. i just want to express my gratitude.
6:33 pm
actually, it's been my time on the board we went through two different versions of somewhat to have an organized way for the parents to have an input on the process. actually, i think this is a good thing not on indictment that it took us 3 times to get it right but we learned a lot more and we found a way for parents to significantly have their voices heard that's important and meaningful and it's a good policy mac process. in addition to that i want to particularly commend the pack for the model where the pack has
6:34 pm
been and a key partner to help us with it out reach some days controversial but important efforts that the districts has undertaken in those ten years. in fact, i have to say i've proudly given a few presentations where we've done the efforts and how much it really has taught us about how we can truly interact and build our relationships with the community not by just going to them and say we're here to tell you something but i'm proud of the work we've done thank you so much >> commissioner.
6:35 pm
>> i want to congratulate the entire pack on amazing service and particularly ruth and her predecessor because being the coordinator is a tremendous task. i want to talk about when i was on the pack ruth was my mentor. i had been active at the till level but not district wide. she coaches people into leadership positions and i is that georgia has that gift. and we were challenged to make better decisions and students assignment and now the practices it's been a tremendous asset to the school board so i want to
6:36 pm
thank you for your work. >> did you want to make a comment commissioner? >> well, i was going to go around the - >> well, i'm happy to congratulate the consonantalor or on they're tenth anniversary. i think the reason we were successful this time is because it came from the community. it was not an idea of the board member it was the community and all the other organizations you mentioned he parents for public schools, you know, it was parents voices, it was a whole group of people that came together and said we need a
6:37 pm
voice. also i want to take a moment to thank the generous funders. well, the board said you can't have it unless it's funded and a leap of faith we will fund it and they've been funders for the last ten years. also their vision this could happen they say it was you guys that did it but it was them who opportunity it and year after year and year it grows into something fabulous. i want to thank my colleagues and to the superintendent and to our president superintendant
6:38 pm
also but you will leave this community advisory board to dpo do many, many things. >> i was only 20 when you guys began. i can't believe it has been to long >> wow, you guys are slow together. but i want to note the lisp that the pack has developed and you see half of our board has been on the pack and it's a great way for our parents to get involved so i really appreciate all the pack has not only brought to the community but to the board and the continued support they provided so thank you for everything >> thank you. constitute delegates?
6:39 pm
>> congratulations on our anniversary and i hope next year the pizza pack will be able to work together i'm eager to see what happens. >> i'd like to commend you from the pack for this cause and so are the parents so i'm really thankful that the parents have a voice too. >> commissioner. thank you student delegates so well said. i'll speak to you and i'll speak to the rest of the pack over the years but really i think about the pack and that of those really one of the first times i had to work with the commissioner furrier >> but through this process and
6:40 pm
here encouragement here insistence that you need to get our applications into me. she really helped assure me to the pack. and then direct my activities in a constructive way interest and i think about some of the issues we took up and it radiate me to some of the things as not how to proceed in those beginning steps by when we stop listening to others what we should talk about that's when we started to find a path and i'm grateful for that. that inaugural body of parents
6:41 pm
who sort of, you know, told you the tough soil and mad it fertile. yes deciding to do some kind of infrastructure b around by laws and how do we participate in this activity it's at the highest level and i do it so well, is just so awesome for me to see you in this 10 year very nervous beginning for us parents to have a seat at the board of education. and recall what it's been into through the years and ruth took to another level.
6:42 pm
it's been a great asset strikts wide and we've all bend from her leadership and i know all members have benefited. thank you all of my board colleagues and as i see you advocates of the council and making sure the advocates get to the board of education. it's tough to hear you parents but i continue to go to the community and give the full story and bring that information to the board of education again directly to us at the highest level and i'm grateful. i'm grateful that i continue to exist in a powerful way. thank you for representing the pack so well.
6:43 pm
thank you >> so i want to add my voice to the congratulations for the 10 years and your leadership. especially as a new commissioner and the only non-partial parents on the board and we work closely together. i'm looking forward to work together to a meeting and congratulation on 10 years and thank you for your leadership. 6:50 pm
alongside the wall. (calling names) okay. so if i've called our name you should be standing alongside the wall. i'm going to give this group 12 minutes total. we will not time the first speaker so when the speaker comes up to the microphone we'll start the clock. >> we've been this is the sixth time now. you know, i'm really angry as a parents in committee. you guys you non-elected all the
6:51 pm
other teachers 33 we're really angry. you know of all people somebody should be championing your community. i'm looking at all of you nobody is saying anything. there is lack of attention we're repeating our voices of concerns and nothing. there's been 1 hundred recommendation in our community and we've been here he help us help us superintendent help us. what's wrong with you guys. (clapping)
6:52 pm
>> hi my name is may and i have kids in betsy car mistake since kindergarten. i'm the type of person who wouldn't say anything just be quiet by this time it's a petition against the karen current assistant >> i'd like to ask you not to refer to district employees by name. >> okay once again i have no idea so i apologize. so our assistant principle is very rude, arrest grant, menu and disrespectful. i have different e-mails here the most kernt is half the students got c, d and intermit
6:53 pm
teacher. i approached her but she was rude she said she had nothing to say. a lot of the parents can say that she was rude to my daughter and been an 4.0 student and for had your not to listen to me is awful. the assistant principle is not listening on april 24th she was typing not looking 83 at me saying i have nothing to say. i e-mailed the assistant principle and have all the copies of the e-mails here and they didn't apologize nothing,
6:54 pm
zero. what else, you know, she's rude to the teachers too. i'm sure i, say her name she was rude to my daughter. i think they owe it to the teacher. and the thing i'm surprised is last year because i was so mad i have to call the office of voice and checked my rights to complain against the principle i was so shocked that the folks had a petition against her same thing rude, disrespect full. and another one from car michael
6:55 pm
who had a weapon incident at betsy car michael campus this december she was rude and literally hang up on the woman and called the cops and filed a police report. and the police officer got the same treatment she was so rude so my concern is if she does this with the parents how does she treat the parents. i want her out from our school. sorry i'm shaking i'm so mad. if i literally have to take time off from school and have all the parents sign this i will do that. i will hope - i'm sure you guys
6:56 pm
have kids. it's really disrespect full she's so rude. i feel sorry for the students. my daughter is graduating this year i have nothing to lose. and i wanted to go to betsy carr michael it's a great school i owe it to that school i owe it to that school. if she's our assistant principle is my son safety in that school knowing she doesn't care. please take a long time my report it's here please take a look >> just following up on it same
6:57 pm
topics topic on the same topic regarding the assistant principle for several weeks my stepdaughter was telling the randomly pe teachers they were going to be getting terrible grades for the quarter and i asked her. excuse me. she got her report card and got a d she's a straight a student. i went to the school the next day the assistant principle wasn't there so the pe teacher was and i asked him what's the methodology. he said there's no misdemean
6:58 pm
methodological he said that's what i felt. he said i am a substitute. i said how side that work exactly. i asked to speak to the assistant principle she wasn't there are another staffer told me to come back the next day. she was there i said i'd like to speak to you about the grades she said there's nothing to talk about you need to leave. i said wait you said amber we can work on this grade she kicked her out and said i was hostile and i had to leave. realistically that's not conducive to the kids it certainly doesn't teach them how
6:59 pm
to communicate with each other and the staff is not good. amber is going to be okay. but for the rest of the kids it's not going to work >> (clapping) >> so i've been a student at the betsy carr michael since preschool. so throughout the years i've really liked it but this year's not a good one. she was turned our school into a mess she's rude to the teachers and the students. she pulls out teachers and yells at them she yells at us and everybody. so nobody feels save at school
7:00 pm
anymore we want her to leave. even though i'm graduating i'm okay but what about the other students. things need to change. >> could you state your name please. megan. >> i'm here to represent the teacher which means she left and i blame is on the assistant principle and she yells at my teacher and it's hard to hear.
