7:35 pm
their rights. this has no place in california but the proponents my office is prepared to litigate cabins any delay equal it for all medical examiners. this is what we've been fighting for in san francisco over the course of 9 years. we've been honored to stand next to the american foundation for equal rights and kate jones and led by ted olsen and they did an absolutely we have job and with the legal team.
7:36 pm
the marriage of equal it movement started in massachusetts by when gaffe convenient took on this structural. it's been a long struggle and we're glad it once in a while we'll have the equal marriage here. with that i'll be happy to answer any questions the media has. (clapping) >> the opinion that is there any indication of the courts. >> we did a quick search of the opinion and there's nothing indicated that they would limit the scope of the injunction.
7:37 pm
first of all, san francisco was a party so we're bound by the scope of that injunction. he was clear to say that county clerks and others authorizing under the state registrar were bound by the terms of the injunction. the california destruct said that the county clerks for the purposes must act under the authority of the state. it's pretty clear that is statewide and we saw nothing in the supreme courts opinion that
7:38 pm
it was limited. they will have about 25 days to filed a petition then it will take a couple of days after that so we anticipate it will be about a month for licenses to be issued. any other questions? >> it's a tremendous victory. we've been fighting this battle for 9 years. we argued early on that the proponents had no stand and this restores equal it. it's a movement and the supreme court made it clear today, we'll have marriage restored here in california and that's good for
7:39 pm

doing a special series about staying safe. let's look at issues of water and sewer. we are here at the san francisco urban center on mission street in san francisco and i'm joined today by marrielen from puc and talk about water and sewer issues. what are things we
7:41 pm
should be concerned about water. >> you want to be prepared for that scenario and the recommendation is to have stored 1 gallon per person per day that you are out of water. we recommend that you have at least 3-5 days for each person and also keep in consideration storage needs for your pets and think about the size of your pets and how much water they consume. >> the storage which is using tap water which you are going to encourage. >> right. of course at the puc we recommend that you store our wonderful delicious tap water. it's free. it comes out of the tap and you can store it in any plastic container, a clean plastic container for up to 6 months. so find a container, fill it with water and label it and rotate it out. i use it to water my garden. >> of course everyone has plastic bottles which we are
7:42 pm
not really promoting but it is a common way to store it. >> yes. it's an easy way to pick up bottles to store it. just make sure you check the label. this one says june 2013. so convenient you have an end date on it. >> and there are other places where people have water stored in their houses. >> sure. if you have a water heater or access to the water heater to your house, you can drink that water and you can also drink the water that the in the tank of your toilet. ; not the bowl but in your tank. in any case if you are not totally sure about the age of your water or if you are not sure about it being totally clean, you can treat your water at home. there is two ways that you can treat your water at home and one is to use basic
7:43 pm
household bleach. the recommendation is 8 drops of bleach for ever gallon of water. you add 8 drops of bleach into the water and it needs to sit for 30 minutes. the other option is to boil water. you need to boil water for 5-10 minutes. after an earthquake that may not be an option as gas maybe turned off and we may not have power. the other thing is that puc will provide information as quickly as possible about recommendations about whether the water is okay to drink or need to treat it. we have a number of twice get information from the puc through twitter and facebook and our website sf water.org. >> people should not drink water from pools or spas. but they could use it to flush
7:44 pm
their toilets if their source are not broken. let's look at those issues. >> sanitation is another issue and something people don't usually or like to think about it but it's the reality. very likely that without water you can't flush and the sewer system can be impeded or affected during an earthquake. you need to think about sanitation. the options are simple. we recommend a set up if you are able to stay in your building or house to make sure that you have heavy duty trash bags available. you can set this up within your existing toilet bowl and once it's used. you take a little bit of our bleach. we talked about it earlier from the water. you seal the bag completely. you make sure you mark the bag as human waste and set it aside
7:45 pm
and wait for instruction about how to dispose of it. be very aware of cleanliness and make sure you have wipes so folks are able to wash up when dealing with the sanitation issue. >> thank you so much,
