many of you came to testify to provide mental support over 14 approved hearings in the past 9 months. a huge thanks to each of you. i want to thank and give a shout out on the addition and the local architects of record. our project manager greg johnson and a thank for the location to richard hill. now bear with me i have to identify people. there have long been numerous folks that need to be thanked. i'll ask i all to stand up at once. and their represented by kim and cowen and mary and avalos and campos. thank you without your unanimously support we couldn't have done that. and i want to thank other including willie brown and a tremendous thanks to marry ed lee for his tremendous support. i would also be remiss not to thank the staff agency steve and director john of the planning department and to all city commissioners respective of their office. today, there are several former commissioners my good friend

christina and others who are great supporters of us (clapping) we also have to thank a huge thank you your development partner jeffries and his family for they're truly amazing support for bringing about the mexican museum. in closings i want to acknowledge peter rodriguez the founder of the museum. we have this sister and brother lloyd rodriguez representing the family (clapping) i want you to then please stay and enjoy the celebration

together we can it gives me great pleasure to introduce mayor ed lee (clapping) >> thank you andy for that introduction. well, today, obviously is a very special day it's not only the 2 hundred and third mexican today, it's appropriate we recognize ann an important institution that will be built here, no san francisco. the entire city and community are excited for this new home and we'll have this compliment the other world-class institutions that arnold previously mentioned. all of those institutions by the way, are not just for our

cultural heritage but also the great business of the city. i want to reminded everybody that the mexican museum will join the arts organizations to reflect a culturely inspired organization that generates 19 thousand jobs already in our city because of our cultural institutions and we'll celebrate this today, this great museum that adds an impressive part of the rest of the museums. i want to again integrate the mexican museum it's the board of trustees and all the staff for being an affiliate of the institution the largest museum network and our museum here will feature a permanent collection

of over 14 thousand orbits reflecting colonial and popular and contemporary mexican and mexican-american and latino and chicano art. whether live in the world can you find a beautiful gem of a museum. today wouldn't have long been possible without the assistance of what heretofore what is called the proctor agency it's called that because we did the right thing. we gave them a new name the office of community investment and sfroo infrastructure headed up by he stephanie. and that sustains the important work and the arts organizations are part of that infrastructure for the city is they also will

be thank you to the arts commission as well. (clapping). you know, it's said it took us 20 years to get here and some of us will ask why it took 20 years. i think that while we might have been a little bit disappointed for that institution to take so long to be here we celebrate all of those years of struggle with people because it built community and built a relationship. and i know supervisor gonzales knows that because all those years we were building community. and therefore the cultureal component to the mexican museum will be worth over $20 million in core contributions from our core partners.

who else would put up $20 million for a core museum that's the kind of relationship we're building. and they didn't stop that. you thought that was exciting how about the $5 million of endowment at no cost to the city and county that's an ongoing reflection. i'm excited to see this stack shape in that 2014 and watch the wonderful work of the 10 architects and i'd like to see all of you the incredible supporters be part of watching in come to being with all of us. and first and foremost i give my great, great honor to thank the entire community of san

francisco. the entire board of supervisors and every one of them voted in favor of this. i'm very proud to say that amongst all those mayors that continued this 20-year effort to do so i'm proud to say that one of the bridges of this was former mayor willie yeah. (laughter) (clapping) of course, a special thanks to ma limb partners to supervisor jane kim but each and every supervisor i'm proud to have worked with them and there's more reasons to unit this city especially, when it comes to celebrating our city and thank

some point somebody told me i should do this and that but one of the things we learn grouping here and i know our mayor he you will understand this we were organizers in different neighborhoods and we also have respect for other neighborhoods, you know, so we were going to do this here on this part of the earth we reached out to our brothers and sisters that here ♪ district and i want to ask you to get off your phone because i want to recognize my brother rudy you know from united players (clapping) >> because he was one of the first brothers that i went to and out of respect for this neighborhood and said we want to do this, you know, he a i asked for permission. that's what you do that's old

school you ask for permission. i want to thank him and all of you from the south of our community would gave our blessing and said, yes please have this museum built here. i want to introduce our next speaker but i'll tell you a little bit about her. when it comes down to working there are some people who will work conditionally and untirelessly and jane kim worked hours and hours and weeks and months and months we understand gave up her time to make this happen being representative of this district. her aid also worked on weekends and i want to thank our aid also

was this promise. and she immediately dove in and was working many, many hours. i want to thank everybody for being here and recognize our general felix. i feel like a latino today but i was here yesterday at the garden and i want to congratulate the festival for throwing such is a great show. how many people were here yesterday? over thirty years ago there was a small group of people that understand in this neighborhood that felt they could shape it to being one of the most dynamic parts of san francisco. i wasn't under but i know they were told they were crazy. and spite that they moved on and

partners throughout the neighborhood whether it was the sf loma la to create this neighborhood we're in. that happens through a lot of hard work. there are a lot of originated associations that make this neighborhood and i'll recognize them later but i'll hear to celebrate the mexican mumdz new home. they'll be joining our partners the contemporary jewish museum and accident bonding in a museum for the art and the san francisco filipino cultural center. it's xhooift quo see how this neighborhood has formed and this is the jewel of the district that serves our residents and our visitors alike. yesterday was a wonderful way to

celebrate the family's and we have a had a block party yesterday and it was free. but we talked about how the residents there are resident that live here in the neighborhood families and a lot of seniors a lot of folks that came into the project to explore this opportunity what can we do and what can we do to improve the neighborhood. we heard it has to be a safer place to walk and we heard from you folks who what can we do to improve steven son. it's not save for people to walk here. for you that come hereafter 5:00 p.m. at night we want to

know what we can do to support safety. shawn said he can make sure that automobiles are getting tibld and he commented to those things. we already rocky want to recognize be united players (calling names) >> people talk about distinguishing families in san francisco that doesn't mean that families don't exist here there are young people here he and this the the organization that serves them. they said we need open space you don't have enough pop o open space and district 6 has the smallest park in the city and we talked to the ma limb about that as well and the millennium was

there to support new open space dollars. that's important for their folks. i want to recognize our folks this is a chang neighborhood and your patient but folks remain committed and continue to volunteer their hours. they're not paid like i am and they volunteer their hours and mary from mgm and carrying out and so some folks and our closest and famous gentleman willie brown. i think it's important to recognize the receipt that debated this promise that many of you supported this project but many wanted to make sure this was going to be a benefit

our supervisor jane kim who's district is where this amazing institution is going to be located. i want to give a special acknowledgment to our carol consulate and unfortunately, we're going to be losing him but carol's thank you for your contributions to not only the mexican and latino but the entire community. it's been a long time coming and i think a number of people have seen it coming and i see supervisor jim gonzales reminded me that it takes two guatemalan malgz to make the museum happen. and i see supervisor christina

and former members of the agency (calling names) and, of course, the successor agency. the reason this is a special moment in many respects it, it's what makes san francisco special. i think a key value and principle we live by as san franciscans is that we're all in it together and that none of us can really is to have made it. none of us can say we're there unless our brothers and sister too have made it. and that's why i think it's so important we're celebrating the grand, you know, opening and grand opening of that institution as much as we want

to celebrate it we can't fully celebrate and honor that culture and history and art unless everyone is represent and you can't say your honoring the horrifies and the culture without that mexican and latino presence. that's why we're here today (clapping) >> i think it's fitting to say a few words in spanish (speaking spanis

spanish). inc. that they will be generations that will look back at why it took so long to get here 20 years is a long time but many kids will benefit from this amazing ammunition the composures to those 13 thousand things of art and the composures of the mexican community and i'm so proud and graphy that so many members of other communities the asian-american the african-american community the jewish community, the lgbt community that they have made it possible for us to be here.

an enrollment for our community throughout the country. i'm eric mar from district one in san francisco where the legion of honor and the former art museum but i'm proud to be here it's a privilege to be standing here in a place where we'll have the world-class mexican museum in san francisco. so we're going to be unveiling a banner here in a moment and i'll read what victor has written. on this special occasion as we celebrate of celebrate mexican independence day it gives me great pleasure to say we're proud of the fourteen thousand art pieces of from chicano and
