that's a real movement of celebration the mayor talked about the due process of ordinance which is so well-connected to the way that we live here and the way that san francisco way. it's also important to talk about what's going on at the state level because this past week ore governor signed a trust act. it's a tremendous messages to the community to say we welcome you, you are part of the community and we recognize our contributions to our community (clapping) >> we should congratulate i think we should congratulate the governor and the legislators for having the circular to do this and we now are going to be able to have a driver's license

(clapping) yes. yes. . so if you may recall until 178994 anybody could go to the dmv and get a driver's license then pete wilson in 1994 that turned things around and for the next 20 years we've criminal listed a large number of immigrants for the only thing they've done wrong is come here to work because we needed to come here to work so this is a major step. and in addition to all of that we also have legislation that actually stops extortion so an employer can in the morning say he is not going to pay you. all the things that occurred have done so in the past week.

and celebrate their accomplishments so young people can grew up in a society where they're not going to be fearful of being here and that's a reason for celebration today. i want to start with our first nominee is jonathan. jonathan where are you? yeah. let's give a round of applause (clapping) >> jonathan is a telephone grader at mission high school he's 80 a great student and good citizen. he has a gpa of 4.0. he's devoted countless hours as

the far sit baseball team and is applying for a large number of colleges and we know heel represent us well, so - jonathan (clapping) >> (speaking spanish.) >>

(clapping). >> he's a fifth grader and she's a great student who has demonstrated respect and she offers assistance to other students she's a good citizen and she takes the time for other younger kids and she works with them when they're feeling sad or getting hurt. she's a model citizen we we want though congratulate you and in e package >> (speaking spanish.) >>

(clapping) and now we're going to grace ortega. where is grace. i can see her here she's a 12 grader she's got activities and she expels she's got a passion

for dance in a local community and is an ambassador for locking could pco could see leadership. she participated in track and is deeply committed to her studies (clapping) >> (speaking spanish.) >> elizabeth where is

elizabeth? elizabeth coming up human resources she's a 7th grader from james middle shopping mall school and she's an intelligent student she's a leader and helps to translate for us. she also demonstrates the pride for her school >> (speaking spanish.) >>

(clapping) the next one is jose. where is jose? yeah. let's give him a round of applause. he's from the boys and girls clubs and is a lifelong resident of admission district he's appeared an advocate for healthy relationships and a team leadership and tutoring and community service programs. he's most recent achievement was being selected as a youth ambassador and traveling to

but i want to say we've had some pretty incredible accomplishments as a latino community. we heard about the trust act passed in sacramento and thank you governor and absolutely and, of course, here at the local level thank you to john avalos and the entire community to worked to make sure we have no longer a relationship with immigration here 90 in san francisco. >> (speaking spanish.) >> we also have heard from ed lee the mayor thank you for being here because we are closing the accomplishment gap and missions schools have a wait list people trying to goat into

those schools. >> (speaking spanish.) >> but before i mention i bring the students such as we've accomplished as a community we have some struggles and challenges the biggest challenge right now is people in the mission especially but throughout san francisco working people in latino are being pushed out of this place in the city and county of san francisco. >> (speaking spanish.) >> so i hope that as we move

forward we keep the middle income people in san francisco especially our cabinet latino families (clapping) >> (speaking spanish.) >> so i'll call some amazing young people beginning with marvin. so marvin miss diaz says he's articulate and loves to take on leadership roles from the classroom marvin moved here last year from honduras and he times to make his mother proud.

martinez. so she was a mission graduate participate in elementary school and now participants in the college bound ambassador. perry sill continues to give back to her community with a gpa of 3.66 in clergy. she's now on the staff at marshall extended day program which supports the future dream of being a teacher >> (speaking spanish.) >> the extended bay mission graduat graduates. >> (speaking spanish.)

>> we're very proud of you perry sill and we hope you become a teacher and our children will be well served by you. now let me ask jose che's an inspirational young man who goes above and beyond he's got a good work ethic. he's on the soccer team >> (speaking spanish.) >> thank you very much jose,
