was this promise. and she immediately dove in and was working many, many hours. i want to thank everybody for being here and recognize our general felix. i feel like a latino today but i was here yesterday at the garden and i want to congratulate the festival for throwing such is a great show. how many people were here yesterday? over thirty years ago there was a small group of people that understand in this neighborhood that felt they could shape it to being one of the most dynamic parts of san francisco. i wasn't under but i know they were told they were crazy. and spite that they moved on and

partners throughout the neighborhood whether it was the sf loma la to create this neighborhood we're in. that happens through a lot of hard work. there are a lot of originated associations that make this neighborhood and i'll recognize them later but i'll hear to celebrate the mexican mumdz new home. they'll be joining our partners the contemporary jewish museum and accident bonding in a museum for the art and the san francisco filipino cultural center. it's xhooift quo see how this neighborhood has formed and this is the jewel of the district that serves our residents and our visitors alike. yesterday was a wonderful way to

celebrate the family's and we have a had a block party yesterday and it was free. but we talked about how the residents there are resident that live here in the neighborhood families and a lot of seniors a lot of folks that came into the project to explore this opportunity what can we do and what can we do to improve the neighborhood. we heard it has to be a safer place to walk and we heard from you folks who what can we do to improve steven son. it's not save for people to walk here. for you that come hereafter 5:00 p.m. at night we want to

know what we can do to support safety. shawn said he can make sure that automobiles are getting tibld and he commented to those things. we already rocky want to recognize be united players (calling names) >> people talk about distinguishing families in san francisco that doesn't mean that families don't exist here there are young people here he and this the the organization that serves them. they said we need open space you don't have enough pop o open space and district 6 has the smallest park in the city and we talked to the ma limb about that as well and the millennium was

there to support new open space dollars. that's important for their folks. i want to recognize our folks this is a chang neighborhood and your patient but folks remain committed and continue to volunteer their hours. they're not paid like i am and they volunteer their hours and mary from mgm and carrying out and so some folks and our closest and famous gentleman willie brown. i think it's important to recognize the receipt that debated this promise that many of you supported this project but many wanted to make sure this was going to be a benefit

and, of course, our latino mexican-american community. thank you and congratulations to everyone involved >> (clapping) >> and next up please give a big round of applause for a brother from guatemala jim gonzales is from there we have two supervisors from there and one the supervisor campos and i'll try to be brief. i want to thank all of you for coming out on this beautiful day. it's important this is happening on mexican independence day and it's atkins the right time. i want to acknowledge our elected family and mayor thank you. i see our assistant district

attorney johnson and, of course, our supervisor jane kim who's district is where this amazing institution is going to be located. i want to give a special acknowledgment to our carol consulate and unfortunately, we're going to be losing him but carol's thank you for your contributions to not only the mexican and latino but the entire community. it's been a long time coming and i think a number of people have seen it coming and i see supervisor jim gonzales reminded me that it takes two guatemalan malgz to make the museum happen. and i see supervisor christina

and former members of the agency (calling names) and, of course, the successor agency. the reason this is a special moment in many respects it, it's what makes san francisco special. i think a key value and principle we live by as san franciscans is that we're all in it together and that none of us can really is to have made it. none of us can say we're there unless our brothers and sister too have made it. and that's why i think it's so important we're celebrating the grand, you know, opening and grand opening of that institution as much as we want

to celebrate it we can't fully celebrate and honor that culture and history and art unless everyone is represent and you can't say your honoring the horrifies and the culture without that mexican and latino presence. that's why we're here today (clapping) >> i think it's fitting to say a few words in spanish (speaking spanis

spanish). inc. that they will be generations that will look back at why it took so long to get here 20 years is a long time but many kids will benefit from this amazing ammunition the composures to those 13 thousand things of art and the composures of the mexican community and i'm so proud and graphy that so many members of other communities the asian-american the african-american community the jewish community, the lgbt community that they have made it

possible for us to be here. lastly, i want to mention a very special person in the audience i want to thank victor marquis he chose pushed this forward. you see some of the people there's something about those gay latinos who have long been an important part of this relationship (speaking spanish) (clapping) >> and now it's my pleasure to introduce to you a big plateaus for my brother. thank you everyone ken avalos was supposed to be here today by you i know in grouping up here he would be beaming with pride. i think this is a glorious day

of mexican independence but it's an enrollment for our community throughout the country. i'm eric mar from district one in san francisco where the legion of honor and the former art museum but i'm proud to be here it's a privilege to be standing here in a place where we'll have the world-class mexican museum in san francisco. so we're going to be unveiling a banner here in a moment and i'll read what victor has written. on this special occasion as we celebrate of celebrate mexican independence day it gives me great pleasure to say we're proud of the fourteen thousand art pieces of from chicano and

latinos arts that xhooipts compromise this museum. i thank you for preserving this cultural art. at this time i'd like to ask my colleagues from the board of supervisors to genuine me up front in presenting this implication to vic for mary excess and i'll read two of the things from the implication. whereas the mexican museum is the repetition to exhibit the mexican chicano and mexican-american people and whereas edwin m lee and the members of the board of supervisors honored mexican day on 3407bd by celebrating the new home of the mexican museum at

the jessie polarizing mrooz in downtown san francisco about it resolved that today is hereby declared mexican-american day in san francisco (clapping) >> and let me give this to also to victor marquis. i want to say that we have mayor ed lee in hanging this banner on the wall behind us. at the park. >> the street, every time, our friends. >> i think everybody should give back. we are very fortunate. we are successful with the company and it's time to give back. it's a great place for us. the weather is nice. no rain. beautiful san francisco. >> it's a great way to be able to have fun and give back and walk away with a great feeling. for more opportunities we have volunteering every single day of the week. get in touch with the parks and recreation center so come

francisco, rec and park. and we work very closely with them in the planning and working very closely with the neighborhood organizations and with the city supervisors and with the city organizations and with the local police department, and i think that the outside lands is one of the unique festivals in the world and we have san francisco and we have golden gate park and we have the greatest oasis, in the world. and it has the people hiking up hills and down hills and a lot of people between stages. >> i love that it is all outside, the fresh air is great. >> they have the providers out here that are 72 local restaurants out here. >> celebrating, and that is really hot. >> 36 local winerries in

northern california and 16 brewers out here. >> and you have seen a lot of people out here having a good time and we have no idea, how much work and planning has gone into this to make it the most sustainable festival in the united states. >> and literally, in the force, and yeah, unlike any other concept. and come and follow, and the field make-up the blueprint of the outside land here in golden gate park and in the future events and please visit sffresh parks.org.
