a career criminal by the name of joseph hike, chose this day to commit a robbery. mr. hike has been arrested 21 sometime -- 21 times in the city of san francisco. mr. hike produced a handgun to a teller face and ordered her to put all the money in the paper bag as he held a gun to her face. officer simmons was inside the bank at which time he observed there was a robbery in process inside of the bank. officer simmons immediately notified communications and called for back-up. knowing that he was inside of

the bank, officer simmons turned off his radio not to alert the suspect and knowing that dispatch acknowledged that he needed emergency assistance. officer simmons then developed a plan on how he would get closer to the suspect who was committing the robbery. officer simmons took up several different positions of concealment as he crept closer and closer to the bank robbery suspect. while doing this, mr. hike still had the gun out and pointing it at the teller's face. officer simmons noticed that hike start to shake erratically with the gun in his hand. and was concerned of his safety and the safety of the approximately 50 people in the bank. officer simmons drew his firearm

but reholsterred because he was in fear of hurting someone in the bank or creating a hostage situation. after holsterring his firearm he got as close to the suspect to take action. he observed mr. hike turn his focus to the money being placed in the bag. at that point officer simmons knowing that he couldn't wait for back-up and not wanting to make the situation worse pounced on mr. hike very quickly. with total disregard for his own safety, he engaged in a violent struggle with an armed suspect. until he was finally taken in custody and the gun went sliding across the bank. officer simmons displayed outstanding bravery in the face

of danger and finally his back-up arrived. his quick actions foiled a robbery that could result in the loss of his life and those inside and out of the bank. being alone did not deter officer simmons of his duty to protect the public. he did so with his own risk of personal safety and his actions displayed courage. ladies and gentlemen, officer simmons is awarded the silver medal of valor. >> on october 25, 2012, at approximately 1:30 in the morning. sergeant domenico was working as an investigator with the major crimes investigation unit. while conducting a robbery investigation, sergeant noticed a gray buick pass by him. he again noticed the vehicle as he surveilled areas around for possible robberies. as he drove the area, sergeant noticed that the same buick was traveling behind him and following closely. sergeant made several attempts to elude the vehicle behind him. though it continued to follow closely as he made multiple turns.

and sergeant decided to make a u-turn to see if the vehicle would follow him and it followed closely behind. at silver avenue, the vehicle pulled up to sergeant's vehicle and fired shots and tristrikinge vehicle as he duck for cover. the suspects sped away north on bay shore towards industrial way. without hesitation or due regard for his own safety, sergeant pursued the armed suspects. he immediately notified dispatch and continued to pursue the vehicle northbound on the 101 freeway. the vehicle exited at caesar chavez and patrillo with the sergeant close behind as he gave

out vehicle descriptions. the occupants fired at sergeant several more time as he followed undeterred in his actions to apprehend them. the suspect vehicle stopped on the 2500 block of bryant street. where the occupants jumped out and fled towards 23rd. sergeant exited his vehicle and took the driver of the suspect vehicle in custody by himself while he radioed the location of the other two fleeing suspects. sergeant continued for corresponding units for the apprehension of other two. he later observed two bullet holes in his vehicle that led to the apprehension of the other two suspects and two firearms.

sergeant desenza continued apprehension of two criminals and his quick actions led to the arrest of the three suspects that otherwise will be a constant threat to the citizens of san francisco, i think that the best compliment you could give to victor is that you have family members in risk, you want him to follow up. sergeant dasenza is awarded the silver medal of valor. [applause]

the city that comes from cars and trucks. we know if we are going to meet our ambitious climate goals we've got to think about alternatives in gasoline powered vehicles. your greenhouse gas e mediation will be lessen counting the e mediation from power plants. but the good news is in san francisco you can drive a car cleaner than anywhere in the u.s. we're nearly 20 percent renot to my knowledgeable and california will be 33 percent less. you'll be driving particle carbon free from the city hiding drove electric facility.

we'll have the levels lower and we know that a strategy is going to help us. frankly we're so proud to have a mayor mayor lee is championship this effort to make this the green capital of the united states p san francisco is anyone one of the most charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country. we've made sure that those owners can get those installed in their homes and have dozens of apartment buildings so see. as we reduce the overall size of the fleet it's my great pleasure to welcome our mayor, mayor ed lee (clapping) thank you ma i didn't four that

introduction and for your department >> good morning, everybody. welcome to evidence code section v week san francisco the innovation capital of the world the greenest city in the north america. i want to thank you tom and thanks to all the sponsors human resources behind mississippi any honda toyota and a schneider electric and charge electric and pg&e, sun power and, of course, working with supervisor eric mar as well. it's wonderful to see so many of our electric vehicles here today to demonstrate the models that are available to a customers. i take pride in this whole area of this city being the

innovation looerd for our electric fuel vehicles. in fact, governor newsom asked all the department heads who would like to help me establish this. i carefully put my hand up and i'm sure glad i did. it's been fun and virtually to watch it grow. i've been to see it grow. navigate more than 40 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions still come from the transportation sector. we want to eliminate that. you heard governor brown last week he made the charge that climate change is too important and we want that to happen here,

no san francisco. we added bike sharing. we are and have long been and will continue to be a transit per city and when you need a car electric cars will be a convenient alternative. in the bay area we have 12 thousand plug in vehicles and that's huge. it represents 1/3rd of all the plugs ins that are sold in the entire state and almost 20 percent in the entire country and that's because not just a because we enjoy them but we've done the right thing. with the 9 counties we're working with we've built an infrastructure. san francisco and the bay area

has the most charging stations, in fact, over 2 hundred charging stations are available in more than 60 different locations in our city. we're making it vent and part of the way we live in this very quality area of the san francisco bay area. city government installed 40 percent of those free charging stations 90 in our garages and airport. we add to that our fleet is 1 hundred percent alternative fuel bio electric or diesel fuel. again, thank you for your leadership you've been working on those vehicles but in those complicated areas of the apartment buildings that don't

have a clear ownership or leadership in some of those buildings and because of the murpt charge st. a they've helped 34 apartment buildings across this area. whether it's our own employees or for the public-private companies they're playing an important role in making e v infrastructure available in our city. our department environment has been working with the business council to reach out to the entire business community in san francisco and help companies start the process of making themselves e v ready. mufrdz and clean energy and technical companies are working with the good times and company

owners to fight the climate change with the e v movement. so by working and innovating together our city is looerd the way. i encourage everyone to come out here and a checkout the wide range of plug in vehicles. and you might want to look at the scooters because when your younger you can do that. even when you're old eerie want to get on one. and, of course, checkout another our nation's first mobile solar charging station. and, of course, as mayors do i get to blame today e v week in san francisco. and present this proclamation to my colleague good afternoon.

my name is louis i'm the executive director of the mission economic development agency. i'll very pleased to be here to share our work with the neighborhood. first metro a was founded 20 years ago on business expansion providing loan services to

admission district and the latino districts then in the 1990s low income and latino families were faced with the threat of disparity so we decided it metro a needed to expand hiss it's services for homeownership counterand closer invention and in subject years we've added free tax and workforce development resources. metro a new provides services to over 7 thousand families annually. we take a holistic integrated service delivery because we're dedicated to insuring that latino families get all the

resources they need to be successful. the mission promise neighborhood is based on this philosophy of integrated approach to communities development the promise of the mission promise neighborhood is that all students and all families in the mission district will be successful both academicly and economically in the mission promise neighborhood we believe that economic success is that fundamental to academic extensive and the mission promise neighborhood we're working on both. it's my pleasure to introduce to you mayor lee. he and his office have long been instrumental in the success of the admission neighborhood. they've porl they're a true

partner in the work. under his leadership because of certify environment in economic groebl growth san francisco has been spared the deficit of years past but has grown to protect the social security where poem need them the most and mayor lee has supported the affordable housing with new large-scale projects the hunters point shipyard and treasure island and other veterans stylists. 20 percent of all new homes in construction nearly 12 thousand will be affordable. mayor lee we really appreciate the partnership and you're good work >> thank you very much

(clapping). >> well louis thank you very much for that introduction. we're here today thanks in large part to metro a i enjoy working with you louis because a great part of what you do is creating jobs and making sure the community like the mission district gets enough resources to operator in a growing economy. we're here to welcome secretary of hud shawn who i have had a chance to work with closely and a lot those days because we want to reenvision the way we do public housing. we don't want isolated poverty housing in san francisco anywhere. created not only so many problems bus it's sustained generations of poverty that i think people deserve to get out

of. so we took this opportunity to welcome our secretary and our recreational office to tour valencia gardens is a great example. and thank you to the housing corporation with their literally leadership to help reestablish what used be poverty housing no lighting and people who talked about this place were solicited and, of course, a lot of calls to the police department and service calls in so many different ways. now you see here some 2 hundred and 60 units that are integrated with public housing and section 8 and people are waiting to get into this place for good reason. it's no longer isolated housing it's integrated with

communities. you'll see in the center a health center with the implementation of obamacare you'll see tvs in the rooms that help people with the skill sets to be part of the 21st century. you'll see thing that are listened to this city interest it was so important to allow the secretary so envision what we want to do with the rest of public housing. we've got 31 thousand other units we're deserve reduce of part of comboirlg. i want to thank our city administrator and the president of the new evenly thauld housing authority commission because they along with working with olsen and our recreational hud
