i want to recognize the dedicated support from mayor ed lee and the board of supervisors especially david campos and supervisor avalos and kim. thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment. and this is a rich and vast collection of the mexican museum. this projects are only done with the participation of the elected officials and the community working hand in hand for the same goal. san francisco is the rich cultural heritage. the presence of - i mention a few examples felt mexican enrichment belongs to all the

san franciscans who proudly celebrate one of the most important assets. the mexican museums new home is a culture site that is made of various privileges that together represent one of the most complexities in this country. today mexicans all over the world proudly celebrate the independence of mexico which also marks the or begins of california. mexico and california work together and mexican california started the contrast of a very important relationship two hundred years ago. a few minutes ago the office of mayor lee the officials and

diminished members of our community met with a long-standing transmission of friendship with the mexican community to raise the mexican flag on the mayor's office to join the celebrations. therefore (clapping) therefore it's a of a special significance that on this day we celebrate the new home of the mexican museum as consult it's been an you honor to support this cure all project. we will continue to work with all of you with the composition e consolidation of the mexican museum. it's not just for mexicans and latinos at any time for all the

gentlemen, mayor lee and distinguished members of the board of supervisors and distinguished city commissioners and fellow members of the board of mexican members and past and present staff. in addition i want to thank our volunteers former supervisor jim gonzales and former mayor willie brown. and christina and assistant district attorney. 20 years ago in san francisco with support of the mayor's office and the board of supervisors and the redevelopment agency we dedicated this land to be able to share this great land to be fully realized but us by 20 fourteen. and today with the hard work of many, many people over the last

decades we have a dream. our future homes here at the justice department i jury the jewish museum to the right and the museum to my right the other museums and we have a center of the arts and to the west the filipino center and the san francisco museum. together we have per certified and this will soon be complete with the edition of the mexican museum. i hope i don't forget remember in weddings the only people that don't forget with are the people who didn't get viefltd.

(clapping) >> thank you andy for that introduction. well, today, obviously is a very special day it's not only the 2 hundred and third mexican today, it's appropriate we recognize ann an important institution that will be built here, no san francisco. the entire city and community are excited for this new home and we'll have this compliment the other world-class institutions that arnold previously mentioned. all of those institutions by the way, are not just for our cultural heritage but also the great business of the city. i want to reminded everybody that the mexican museum will

join the arts organizations to reflect a culturely inspired organization that generates 19 thousand jobs already in our city because of our cultural institutions and we'll celebrate this today, this great museum that adds an impressive part of the rest of the museums. i want to again integrate the mexican museum it's the board of trustees and all the staff for being an affiliate of the institution the largest museum network and our museum here will feature a permanent collection of over 14 thousand orbits reflecting colonial and popular and contemporary mexican and mexican-american and latino and

chicano art. whether live in the world can you find a beautiful gem of a museum. today wouldn't have long been possible without the assistance of what heretofore what is called the proctor agency it's called that because we did the right thing. we gave them a new name the office of community investment and sfroo infrastructure headed up by he stephanie. and that sustains the important work and the arts organizations are part of that infrastructure for the city is they also will be thank you to the arts commission as well. (clapping). you know, it's said it took us 20 years to get here and some of

us will ask why it took 20 years. i think that while we might have been a little bit disappointed for that institution to take so long to be here we celebrate all of those years of struggle with people because it built community and built a relationship. and i know supervisor gonzales knows that because all those years we were building community. and therefore the cultureal component to the mexican museum will be worth over $20 million in core contributions from our core partners. who else would put up $20 million for a core museum that's the kind of relationship we're building. and they didn't stop that.

you thought that was exciting how about the $5 million of endowment at no cost to the city and county that's an ongoing reflection. i'm excited to see this stack shape in that 2014 and watch the wonderful work of the 10 architects and i'd like to see all of you the incredible supporters be part of watching in come to being with all of us. and first and foremost i give my great, great honor to thank the entire community of san francisco. the entire board of supervisors and every one of them voted in favor of this. i'm very proud to say that

amongst all those mayors that continued this 20-year effort to do so i'm proud to say that one of the bridges of this was former mayor willie yeah. being here and recognize our general felix. i feel like a latino today but i was here yesterday at the garden and i want to congratulate the festival for throwing such is a great show. how many people were here yesterday? over thirty years ago there was a small group of people that understand in this neighborhood that felt they could shape it to being one of the most dynamic parts of san francisco. i wasn't under but i know they were told they were crazy. and spite that they moved on and partners throughout the neighborhood whether it was the sf loma la to create this neighborhood we're in. that happens through a lot of

hard work. there are a lot of originated associations that make this neighborhood and i'll recognize them later but i'll hear to celebrate the mexican mumdz new home. they'll be joining our partners the contemporary jewish museum and accident bonding in a museum for the art and the san francisco filipino cultural center. it's xhooift quo see how this neighborhood has formed and this is the jewel of the district that serves our residents and our visitors alike. yesterday was a wonderful way to celebrate the family's and we have a had a block party yesterday and it was free. but we talked about how the residents there are resident

that live here in the neighborhood families and a lot of seniors a lot of folks that came into the project to explore this opportunity what can we do and what can we do to improve the neighborhood. we heard it has to be a safer place to walk and we heard from you folks who what can we do to improve steven son. it's not save for people to walk here. for you that come hereafter 5:00 p.m. at night we want to know what we can do to support safety. shawn said he can make sure that

moment in many respects it, it's what makes san francisco special. i think a key value and principle we live by as san franciscans is that we're all in it together and that none of us can really is to have made it. none of us can say we're there unless our brothers and sister too have made it. and that's why i think it's so important we're celebrating the grand, you know, opening and grand opening of that institution as much as we want to celebrate it we can't fully celebrate and honor that culture and history and art unless everyone is represent and you
