from my vantage vantage point,e very much need a store in america, not a caretaker. we need someone that will lead us through a year of transition and for the city. someone that is going to respect the leadership that is in place both in the legislative body and within the departments. in seeking to put their own mark on the city, and hopefully not make wholesale changes that would be destructive. i spoke about who candidates great qualities and i think he is one of the underappreciated officials considering what he began in 1979, a revolution to take an agency and make it reflect the city rather than protect it. he has been a professional that has dealt with every change that has happened since the aids

epidemic to provide training for officers on how to respond cullis thickly and give people dignity in their custody of responsibilities. i have not change my vote or decision a around what i have been doing for more than a year and what i intend to do for the rest of this year. hustling like to see a strongest word and a leader for the city, and all of the rest of the decisions are going to unfold as they should. what is a little difficult for me is that it seems to me that the mayor has the cards. if he does the resign, and any decision we make is ineffectual. there is activity right now that i don't fully understand. but i am not the smartest member

of the 11 members of this board of supervisors. there might be something i am not seeing in this equation. i am a bit troubled that the way that votes are sequence, if i make a decision in the first round, i could preclude other individuals from being considered. i would like my colleagues to have the opportunity to demonstrate. i intend to vote no on the first round at let individuals cast their vote as they see fit. i have seen time after time again that we have gone multiple rounds and removed after that decision is made. what i would like to do is not be the sixth vote for the first round and give people an opportunity to show where they stand on the candidates that are most inclined to do this. if there is a deadlock, i will consider options that the boy.

the sheriff is a classy an individual as i have ever met. he is a person that has extended himself to me how without asking anything in return and has been honest. i think they are both tremendous public servants. the individuals that have been nominated, to prevent that from being here tonight. >> i have always been open to different candidates, and it is important that the people and i feel closest to politically can come to a decision together. i have met with many people for

running for inter-american, including folks that aren't on the left. i met with a leak at a time he said he was interested in the position, and it wasn't until this morning that it was put out there again. it comes as a bit odd that to try to reconsider ed lee as a potential candidate. i have a tremendous amount of respect for him and all the folks here on the list. i really admire his longevity and all the different places he has worked. i think his work that he has been able to oversee in my district and across the city is exemplary. i have had been really impressed

with how he has been able to talk about his experiences as mayor and what he has learned from the hard times and there were some incredible experiences that he had as mayor. he was someone that i was considering as well. i have talked many times with former supervisors, and seeing him as someone to consider as well. many of my discussions with the media have been about multiple names including people that are in this room that i would be willing to support. it is really how we could make the best of a collective decision to move that forward. of the people here that i feel closest to, my closest support is to sheriff hennessy.

i would cast my vote in the first round. we have worked on the budget issues and on the sheriff issues within this department. i have been really impressed. in his commitment to working with our different neighborhoods and different communities, looking at education. and they are great qualities that he could draw on as enteron -- interim mayor. he has also had to work with multiple departments. i feel that he has those relationships that would be great at the helm of the interim mayor position.

i concur with supervisor dufty, we want someone who will play an active role. he would have a good relationship with the board of supervisors. it is something we really yearn for, to have a relationship regardless of how we identify ourselves politically. president chiu: we have a difficult decision in front of us, and we are extremely fortunate that all of these nominees are outstanding individuals. the chairman has served as a brilliant public servant who led the board of supervisors extremely well and currently leads the democratic party very well.

all of us see a little bit of the handwriting on the wall that the discussion is focusing on a couple of individuals. the share of has had an outstanding record for decades. he is someone that has incredible integrity and management experience, someone i would be proud to work with. i do plan to vote for ed lee. much has been said about all of the various things he has done for the city. i want to talk for a moment about everything he has done that reflect our chevy -- city's shared progressive values. he was an old school progressive activists. he worked on the public housing

project in the heart of chinatown. he worked in the hearts of my district and worked for 12 years at the progress of civil rights organization in the community that i come from. serving for five years and led case after case fighting the fight for justice. i have the honor of presenting him with the champion of justice award and worked very closely with supervisor avalos on local hiring. he was appointed to serve as an investigator and executive director of the human rights commission. through this service has continued to exceed expectations to the point where we have recently reinstalled and

him. he is someone that can work across the political aisle and has had enormous confidence with no ego. speaking to many of you about him, i know he is something we can all work with. supervisor mirkarimi: thank you, president chiu. supervisor campos: i just wanted to make one point that i appreciate and understand what supervisor dufty: in indicated. the fact that i vote no on someone with respect to a

specific vote doesn't mean that it would change. i want to make that clear. supervisor maxwell: i must say that i am appreciating with this is going. i had somebody else in mind, as you all know. believing that somebody like him could come in and hit the ground running. he does have to be apolitical and a team player. it looks like we have a couple of other candidates that are pretty strong. you all seem to understand that we should be selecting a manager and the voters should elect a mayor. i am hearing the you're considering people that don't

have any political aspirations the that the decisions they will make will be based on what the city will need and they will not be in competition with this board homework as a demon. that is what i am appreciating about this. the people like you are considering could certainly be put in that category who will put the city first and not themselves, who will talk with you and work collaborative leave. that is what we will be going forward, so thank you for that. president chiu: once the board members have talked about nominations, there will be a roll-call vote in the order in

speak against the motion. supervisor daly: perhaps it has to do with what supervisor dufty said in terms of wanting to allow a round of voting to see where the votes are after having expressed support for multiple candidates. if you look at the voting with supervisor dufty voting against his preferred candidate, no other candidate received more than 4 votes. i would recommend giving supervisor dufty another round before we reopen nominations as a think the intent of giving everybody the opportunity to

vote before locking in the first nomination makes the most sense in terms of going forward. i don't know how many rounds before everybody had enough opportunities to vote for the return candidates. i voted for three. people have different strategies, but at some point, i would assume that supervisor dufty or maxwell will cast an aye vote. supervisor campos: i also want to join supervisor daly in asking that we vote in another round. i think that is consistent with the statements made and we have an opportunity to make a decision right now.
