schoolchildren there. i supervised as a community person the first renovation of that lake in 50 years, insisting on more access for people with disabilities, trash,," , all of these things. supposedly i met with mr. kinseyforth twice. but he made a mistake about the entire colony. first of all, it has been out there opposite the boat house for 18 years, not strawberry island. i have to say that as far as protecting the colony and the wild life out there, i have had complete support from current tenants. my concerns are not even reflected in this agreement.

number one, there is nothing in the boating issues about protecting the wildlife there. i mentioned making sure that boaters were informed that they were not allowed to bring their boats on to the island or stop anywhere to get off. that is not reflected. i am asking you to please consider this. thank you. supervisor chu: please remember to state your opposition or support for the measure. >> my name is dr. john [unintelligible] and i suppose it -- support the measure. we had people coming output from the ortega group to our group to speak. no one came from the other group, even though we tried. i find myself in a peculiar position. i agree with everything that mr.

[unintelligible] patron of stow lake and the boat house, a breast cancer survivor that goes for health to the resources that stow lake. the paddle boats that are great exercise, as well as the beautiful landscape. kudos to the supervisors for intervening in the possible end of the brian martin clinic. that is a vital san francisco resource. i would like to talk about another resource of a very different kind. this is about a resource for elders and families of children.

basically, change is good. changes needed. but change must take place with the community in mind. so, what i would like to see, what i have seen, are changes in the presentation given -- revisions since our testimony at a public meeting on december 2. i am gratified to see that our voices have been heard to a certain extent. i realize that money is needed by parking and wrecked. however, how that money comes in is extremely important. that must take into account the families and elders to use the park and how they use it.

a change does not mean a boat house conversion change. the food is a little pricey. but i do have the lovely hat -- which i am into these days. has been flawed. in november 2009 after learning about the wrecking of plants to put a restaurant in the gift shop of the boat house, the save the boat house coalition was born to change the use of the boat house. december, 2009, parks commissioner president lazarus ordered an rpd staff to hold public meetings with regards to changing the use of the boat house. no public meetings had been held prior to the rpd making the top down decision to turn the top level of the boat house into a cafe/souvenir shop. having misled the public, they did not disclose city documents regarding the boat house.

they told the commission that the boats were knew when i and the lease it says new, or if not new. we could go on and on. we do not want this change of use. this approval must be postponed. supervisor chu: thank youchu next -- thank you. supervisor chu: next speaker, please. >> my name is peggy cushion. i am opposed to the lease. i am with the sierra club and the golden gate audubon society. we are concerned that the change of function in this boat house will threaten children's appreciation of boating, as well as the heron degree. vendor, shmendor, we do not care

who the vendor is. we want a good contract. i would like these inserted into the contract. no night lighting. this is very important to the golden gate audubon society. the number of boats in the contract says that it will be increased if demand dictates. what is the man the dictates? -- to demandemand dictates? it should also specified note to our bosses in the future. no more parking. everyone in san francisco does not want more park land taken up with parking for parked cars. in the contract they are very obscure about the issues

regarding seismic and ada. who pays for which? we want that very clear. in summary i would like to say that the heron's need protection. the children of san francisco deserve the bullet -- the boat's upstairs. this could all happen with the ortega's. thank you. directly to my branch. our hot dogs are produced by a third generation sausage making factory in fairfield. i would like to thank all of those people. my company employs five people. the ongoing support of the ortega's for local businesses. cannot be disputed. supervisor chu: thank you. >> good morning, supervisors. henry [unintelligible] i would like to take a few minutes to highlight of the most important elements of this proposal. the ortega family enterprises dedicated to maintaining the characteristics of the stow lake boat house. they are uniquely qualified to renovate and manage the boat house. they have an approved track record of success and keeping true to the historical nature of

the buildings they are charged with renovating. proposing an extra set of improvements will give a true perspective to visitors, reclaiming the historic charm of the boat house. having developed a boat maintenance team to pay homage to the original use of the area. there will also stabilized in preserving as many convincing elements as possible. since the 1970's they have been committed to rehabilitating and restoring the historical significance of these once worn down buildings by using photographs for historic reconstruction. they can insure historical accuracy. many of their large capital historic projects have involved buildings in which they operated that are historic and require special provision knowledge. the minimum of 70 years old, up

appreciating science in nature. including golden gate park. we look forward to continued collaboration in that purpose. -supervisor chu: thank you. next speaker. >> my name is oscar frick. my wife and i walk around stow lake for our daily constitutional for the last 30 years. the boat house should remain a boat house, something that the children especially enjoyed. the servicing hoist should remain at the lake level and life vests should be at hand. if it is essential to have a cafe and shop, this could be housed in the basement of the building, where the bicycles are right now. this would be near the restaurant's. the main business of the

ortega's in new mexico is souvenirs' and indian artifacts. we recently visited mirror woods to see three-quarters of the space devoted to indian artifacts and souvenirs. about one-quarter of the spaces for a small shop. current users are seniors, young families, children, joggers. in order for them to rico -- recoup their investments, they plan to advertise the tourists and bring them in in buses, which would change the ambiance. bus traffic will disrupt the wildlife.

stow lake has a wonderful and historic boat house that is in need of repair. we have a number of issues that need to be dealt with to prevent further deterioration of this treasure. we feel that if these issues are not dealt with now it will only lead to expensive manhunts in the future. the ortega's have committed to renovating and repairing this historic building. with an additional $300,000 over the term of the lease. this restoration means work, they plan on more cost and maintenance in the future. protecting this historic jam for

in this cafe, with a further matter of diverting trash from the landfill we had to figure out how to compost in a county that does not support compos. we have done so in supporting local businesses. we are good for families as well. we have menus that list what they can purchase for under $5. we want to support the families that,. we have initiatives to monitor sounds that come from our cafe to really show how much we care about the environment. as a lifelong visitor to golden
