you for your time. supervisor chu: thank you. >> good morning. my name is denise. i am here on behalf of the harvey milk democratic club, which opposes this stow lake changeover. from the beginning, this process has been flawed. in november 2009 after learning about the wrecking of plants to put a restaurant in the gift shop of the boat house, the save the boat house coalition was born to change the use of the boat house. december, 2009, parks commissioner president lazarus ordered an rpd staff to hold public meetings with regards to changing the use of the boat

house. no public meetings had been held prior to the rpd making the top down decision to turn the top level of the boat house into a cafe/souvenir shop. having misled the public, they did not disclose city documents regarding the boat house. they told the commission that the boats were knew when i and the lease it says new, or if not new. we could go on and on. we do not want this change of use. this approval must be postponed. supervisor chu: thank youchu next -- thank you. supervisor chu: next speaker, please. >> my name is peggy cushion. i am opposed to the lease.

i am with the sierra club and the golden gate audubon society. we are concerned that the change of function in this boat house will threaten children's appreciation of boating, as well as the heron degree. vendor, shmendor, we do not care who the vendor is. we want a good contract. i would like these inserted into the contract. no night lighting. this is very important to the golden gate audubon society. the number of boats in the contract says that it will be increased if demand dictates. what is the man the dictates? -- to demandemand dictates?

i would like to take a few minutes to highlight of the most important elements of this proposal. the ortega family enterprises dedicated to maintaining the characteristics of the stow lake boat house. they are uniquely qualified to renovate and manage the boat house. they have an approved track record of success and keeping true to the historical nature of the buildings they are charged with renovating. proposing an extra set of improvements will give a true perspective to visitors, reclaiming the historic charm of the boat house. having developed a boat maintenance team to pay homage to the original use of the area. there will also stabilized in preserving as many convincing elements as possible. since the 1970's they have been committed to rehabilitating and restoring the historical significance of these once worn

boat house, something that the children especially enjoyed. the servicing hoist should remain at the lake level and life vests should be at hand. if it is essential to have a cafe and shop, this could be housed in the basement of the building, where the bicycles are right now. this would be near the restaurant's. the main business of the ortega's in new mexico is souvenirs' and indian artifacts. we recently visited mirror woods to see three-quarters of the space devoted to indian artifacts and souvenirs. about one-quarter of the spaces for a small shop. current users are seniors, young families, children, joggers.

that you could get a lot of kids to go to the park. >> our company has worked with the ortega as on several national parks service projects. stow lake has a wonderful and historic boat house that is in need of repair. we have a number of issues that need to be dealt with to prevent further deterioration of this treasure. we feel that if these issues are not dealt with now it will only lead to expensive manhunts in the future.

family concession at the national monument. i have been one of the people on the ground making sure that we are sourcing healthy food from vendors. we support local business whenever we can, as well as letting our local visitors that are component an important know about these local businesses. we also support the environment in this cafe, with a further matter of diverting trash from the landfill we had to figure out how to compost in a county that does not support compos. we have done so in supporting local businesses. we are good for families as well.

a refuge that is natural. that is not commercialized and left open to a new development from elisse that has many loopholes. every night i would go into the lodge and look at a portrait hanging over me. i would talk to him in the portrait, praying that this development of the park is a slab of real estate, this was initially a retreat from urban pressure. because this city is a worldwide destinations and has to accommodate a lot of people, because of changes inevitable, it is even more so that one small part of that vision is saved. i believe that the ortega's with their good intentions, this is
