i have worked on issues related to community development and environmental justice. these are challenging economic times and it is important. the block grants program is a critical strategy to level the playing field. john people are coming of age where the city cannot guarantee a place to live or a decent place to work. many are increasingly isolated. over the last year, as a member of the community, i am proud of efforts to deepen the dialogue with community-based organizations. representatives are often asked to come to public hearings where they have two minutes to

empowerment. san francisco is working to create a work force that one of us in the economy. this cannot happen if the very people we are training today will not be able to afford to live here tomorrow. we must have a strategy to support low to moderate income families and their ability to stay in san francisco. as an individual unless benefited from the housing and work force investment dollars, i hope to be a constant reminder to reach with our funding. i have attended a key meetings so far. i found that many of the policies, have been there as a part of the community. i will be there to help to

i come to you from the housing committee. unfortunately, for affordable housing is pretty stressed out right now and the block grant funds are being reduced but we don't know by how much. the people are scrambling quite a bit and i wish that more people could peter today but it is important for us for this committee and the work that it does. i have had a number of legislative appointments which i think intersect quite well and what i bring to the committee and the housing perspective, i'm currently the chair of the

advisory committee. the oversight group for the implementation of this very comprehensive, very aspirational development program for the upper market. part of that is prioritizing and allocating funds which are used for putting away money for capital projects. i am serving on the infrastructure finance committee which most recently adopted a pilot program. we have established various guidelines for financing and infrastructure. i have been appointed to the back streets advisory board. our charge was to come up with some suggestive policies strategies. lastly, i was in her the bioscience task force. we had years to come up with a

policy suggestion. i've had experience and i think we have served in these rounds. i will say that the housing representative to the committee, -- at died about 8 months ago. i would bring myself to u.s. someone from the housing community. i have a couple of kids, i've been in the city for about 19 years. thank you for your consideration. >> are there any questions? seeing none, we will open it up for public comment. thank you for being here. i don't know if you want to make any comments to the committee.

>> i am the director for the mayor's office of housing. i will not be speaking in any -- in favor of any candidate. we have three seats, including the one that is currently occupied by the incumbent. we have been short two members. we will be making recommendations for the block grant funds. the house of repetitive has suggested a cut in funding and this has not been resolved by the senate. that makes an extremely critical time for us to have that dialogue. it cut at a 30% level perhaps will not have a devastating

is a mother, an active supporter of the recently passed local hiring law. we believe that she will continue to address the needs and concerns of our communities by advising the city for work- force development and housing policies. personally, i feel like she does a great job and working with apri. she has played an important rro. this allows local applicants to come in and find ways to get affordable sustainable employment here in san francisco.

organization in the southeast sector. when we look at what psittacine community development is, someone who is actually concerned about any given community. this person here is part of the -- meeting in the bayview, part of the jobs coalition. she is a community activist. i am a former labor committee union person, having been part of local 377, the iron workers.

this person is about the community, it is obvious. for many years, she has given her life. she has given her dedication. and her interest about the government serving communities. these committees that have been marginalized, she is definitely a part of. she wants to see something happen. being a part of san francisco, everyone here would like to have a say how something goes. i would highly recommend that she is considered and given the opportunity to be part of this committee. thank you. >> thank you. >> good afternoon, supervisors. we are a community-based organization out of a view.

i cannot bring a list of everyone who supports miss belfry. a lot of people in the valley do. i have seen her at a lot of meetings that she comes to on her own. also, in front of the cac. i have been part of her life for a couple of years. she is the community. she represents work force advocacy. she understands what we're trying to do, the hard issues, trying to put people to work from our neighborhood. she knows how to make it happen. she has a great understanding of what needs to be done. i highly recommend you put her on the committee. >> good afternoon, supervisors.

i am here to support the candidacy of nicole rivera. i found her to be a woman of great integrity, works really diligently with the communities and partnering with the city and working with speaker of the house nancy pelosi. very responsive to the needs of san franciscans. she has a keen understanding of the worked necessary to do work force development and really mesging the need -- meshing the needs of disadvantaged communities as someone born in the mission. her capacity representing the mission and other communities throughout the city.

over the past couple of months as she has engaged to becoming a better commissioner. she has really been finding out what it takes to be an effective commissioner and an effective advocate for the community that she cares about. i have been impressed by her dedication to the community that she is from. per dedication to lifting up the folks. her dedication to being better as a community advocate and dealing with it in a new way. what is always so interesting about her as well you can see her obvious dedication to san francisco and bayview and hunters point, she also understands how san francisco is connected to the larger community development throughout the region. it is not just about community development here, but throughout the region. i think peter also brings back
