there was the deal at trinity plaza. i would also point out that they have conflated market rate and luxury. this project is located in a part of town without amenities. the price point will necessarily be lower. it is definitely in the range of someone like myself, a two- income family. that is a market which is grossly under build. of the upper rate of the market level, in the range you're talking about, 12.9%.

more transportation, better bicycle paths, better -- there are missing amenities, such as community gardens, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.. potable water, consumption, and water reduction. it seems to me that by going through with this plan, park merced would be and out of date approached and creating a potential international model for urban sustained. thank you. president chiu: could you pull the microphone?

opportunity to revitalize a part of the city that is, frankly, very much in need of it, and i see no reason why this should not move forward. thank you. president chiu: thank you. next speaker. >> my name is -- i am a koran residence in san francisco. it will be a wonderful improvements. i urge you to support it. >> good evening. my name is -- an item here representing myself. i drive by parkmerced often, and it is a concept of where i am

>> we're here to support this project. this provides for tenants. does not displaced tenants. as we heard, this provides a home. and while we have heard some things about construction jobs, demolition, that goes on everywhere in san francisco, and everywhere you live, you're going to have soot and smog. if you live near a freeway, there are special considerations.

a 4-year-old, we just cannot tell them to go out and play. we cannot tell them to go out to the front yard. we are actually looking to the east bay, where i will be commuting in for one hour to 1.5 hours. some of us are trying to figure out how we can all commute together. i was hard pressed to find a nurse with a family that actually lives in the city. i found one. she is our manager who lives here with a 10-year-old in a house that she shares with her sister. in my department, there are over
3:40 am
100, and there are those who are about to have kids. none of us lived in the city. none of us will live in the city because there is not a place we can afford. this is unfortunate. i love the city. it takes me 10 minutes to get there. [bell] >> my name is matthew. she stole all of my talking points. but we realize that we're not want to be able to move into the new version of parkmerced.
3:41 am
i look at my kids, and i hope they can grow up in the same kind of city. i understand change and all of that. it is nowhere near what it was, but i think this project will bring it closer. >> hello, my name is kevin. i reviewed the eir. it will create jobs in san francisco and revenue, things we desperately need. >> i am with a sheet metal workers.
3:42 am
there was an article last week in "the examiner," and it mentioned about san francisco becoming a child free zone. as the man with the building trades also said, helping to reach our local hiring goals. i ask you to uphold the certification. thanks very much. >> hi, my name is gordon. there are three main points that i want to make.
3:43 am
in building out the new units for a total of 89, this project will create 35,000 jobs, new on- site jobs. there is a 25% and climate rate. this would provide thousands of jobs, in he knows? other associated taxes and fees, obviously increasing our prosperity in san francisco. thank you very much. >> good evening. i am also a resident.
3:44 am
i very much agree that the eir it is complete. there is no time machine. most of the arguments are highly speculative. i travel through the corridor a lot. i am one of many who cares about what happens at parkmerced, and it is disconcerting to see such effort against it based on speculative items. [bell] >> good evening.

3:48 am
i also never viewed the eir documents. thank you so much. >> hello, my name is ryan. i am a resident. i have reviewed the environmental report documents. i urge you to uphold them. as a resident, our future and sustainability are of great concern to me. it will create many jobs, construction jobs. this will help the strength and growth of our city. i urge you to uphold the environment impact report. fenty for your time. -- 54 your time. -- thank you.
3:49 am
>> my name is -- we support this. there are members to work and live -- who work and live at parkmerced. tomorrow, who knows? the houses and apartments. it will grows, what could 10%? i do not have to tell much about that. you know better than me. thank you. >> good evening, my name is tori martinez.
3:50 am
of the many points that were made, many being very easy to support, the one. and think was left out is that support for this part is the holistic design taken into account, and there are not really a lot of opportunities in san francisco where there is a benefit on a regional level. being familiar with the design and with the developer and their other projects, their commitment is without equal. thank you.
3:51 am
>> good evening. my name is sylvia. the statistics of unemployment. it will help us to have a job. i am a single mother. it is very hard for me for the last seven years with a job. i think this is a really great opportunity. thank you. >> hi, tom murphy. thank you. i grew up in san francisco, and i am a loan officer. the last families that i have approved are from san francisco.
3:52 am
the city and families, it has all been said. housing, families, jobs. president chiu: next speaker, and there are seats up here. >> good evening, supervisors. i was born and raised in san francisco. pretty much, parkmerced is where i live, and i know there will be some inconveniences for the next 20 years. i am willing to live with those inconveniences. all of us expect this, and in the united states. i understand there are concerned about this.
3:53 am
i think this project was well thought out. i think the developers' hands are pretty much tied. i think the location of this where it is being built does make sense. there will be a lot more housing than before. 19th avenue, you have a lot of ways to move in and out. there is also the muni that is going to be there. there may be less traffic coming into san francisco. we may actually be reducing debt and not increasing it. in addition, the situation with me, it is very dangerous where
3:54 am
the muni line comes up. it is not a good place for them to be doing that. [bell] president chiu: next speaker. >> hello, my name is tom, in miami residents of the community. i stick around because i find it to be one of the most interesting places. this is a community where i share living space with single people, retirees. it is a wonderful place to be, and i would urge you to deny
3:55 am
the appeal on the eir. president chiu: next speaker. >> hello, my name is correne. i am a sixth generation native son. i believe in what is going to do. this goes hand in hand with what we have done in the city, cutting waste of the last couple of years. this makes as a leader not only in the country but in the rest of the world. the next generations of people here in san francisco, we hope you reject the appeal. thank you. >> good evening. my name is -- and i am a scholar of california modernism, and
3:56 am
there are some things that have been raised. in the course of my research, parkmerced was never brought up as an exemplary project of any kind. its name is not even listed in the index. also, i urge you to consider also that the firm who is doing this is part of the legacy. they made landmarks of american modernism, and i support it. >> my name is aunt. i am an organizer for local 377. this will benefit the bay area
3:57 am
and the greater bay area. i urge you to reject the appeals and move forward. >> good evening, supervisors. as you can imagine, in most communities, where a developer is talking about 5000 new units, there are some who would oppose it because of the vacancy rates that they expect. we are not. in san francisco, there is a desperate need for more affordable housing, more family housing. this is an opportunity for all of us to make a step in that direction to make room for our families to stay here in san francisco. as was pointed out earlier,
3:58 am
there is a tremendous amount in san francisco, particularly on the west side. whether rental or otherwise. we need to build housing for our children in san francisco. and we need environmentally friendly housing for our children. this project is amazing from the environmental point of view. it is something that people will point to and say, "that is the way it can be done." a step in the right direction for development in san francisco. i urge you to decline the appeal of this eir. thank you very much. president chiu: next speaker.
3:59 am
>> good evening. i am ramsey. as stated earlier, there have been numerous informational hearings with agencies regarding the project. there will be significant impacts on this project. the time for talking in learning is over. it is now time to approve this important project. any residents will be moved to a brand new unit of a similar size, and with all the protections afforded the tenants under the rent control law. these were constructed over 60 years ago with low-quality construction materials.
