plan and held that the departments are coordinating with regard to the plan with regard to the impact on the sidewalks making sure we have a full understanding of how the process works. i believe that hearing should occur before we take a final vote on the item. not that the hearing will be about the at&t boxes. it is not, but it is about the surface mounted utility order, which has been the source of some confusion during our deliberations. because of the budget process, several land use committee meetings were cancelled, so the first available date was monday july 11 when the hearing will occur. as a result, i move to continue items 31, 32, and 33 until the july 19 board meeting. supervisor chiu: supervisor wiener made a motion to continue these three items. colleagues, can we take that without objection? these items will be continued to

the years i have been here. to the effect of why i have spoke out when i was surprised to learn about the jim usage. i have had now a fair amount of meetings with booker t.. i have stressed that i think it is important that the gymnasium, which is private, be a community asset and be retained for community asset as much as possible in that of the hours that have been testified of nearly 700 that would be used for one private institution, it is actually up to 2000 hours that would be used for those to be able to read it out, giving a remainder nearly 3000 hours, potentially, for public usage. all i want to say is please, to booker t. and the surrounding community, to do the best they can to make sure that does remain a community asset, which is part of the spirit of why i wanted to also help champion this particular legislation.

item 41 is an ordinance amending the zoning map regarding the executive park sub-areas plan. supervisor cohen: good afternoon, colleagues. has been long in the works, the proposed the second part plan and the amendments will ultimately complete the transition of an outdated suburban office park setting into a new mixed-use residential neighborhood. these planning codes, zoning map, and general map amendments will usher in a new date for the southwest portion of executive park, which will forever transformed this particular corner of san francisco. this plan has had to wait for many things, including the redesign, regional studies, and for other planning efforts to occur, but after much work by the community and city staff, the items before you today are for our consideration. thank you to my colleagues on the land use committee for several robust hearings on this project, and ask for your support.

members to the redistricting task force. supervisor chiu: discussion? supervisor kim. supervisor kim: thank you. as you know, this is a task force that has been much talk about in the past and is something that will shape the future of the board of supervisors over the next 10 years. we have recommended three individuals out of, i believe, over 23 applicants -- 23 applicants have applied. we had some great applicants, and it was a pleasure to hear from many folks that will want to serve on this committee, which will be very time consuming and will deal with some important issues. we have forwarded might -- mike alonzo, jenny lamb, and the election commission has appointed three members as well. just to get a sense of the current composition, this is the committee that most forward,

we have one individual that lives in district 2, two that lived in district four, one in seven, one in eight, and one in 10. we have two white males, one african-american female, one african-american male, one latino female, and one asian- american woman. one thing that i thought was unfortunate was that we were not able to forward an lgbt appointee, which i think is very important, and we want to make sure the community is outraged to and has proper racket -- representation, and also, i had hoped to see more women appointed from the mayor, who has three appointments left. i got to know mike since our rules committee meeting. i have known of the work of ginny and eric mcdonald in our community and really admire the work they have done on behalf of san francisco, so we will be supporting these three. i did want to say that i do strongly support paul hogar, an

lgbt candidate list in my district, and it is unfortunate we will not be able to include him. supervisor wiener: i will be supporting the recommendations of the rules committee. i think all three people the rules committee forwarded our solid, and when you look at the overall composition so far, it is a good group of people. i will say is reservation only in that zero of the six will be lgbt, and that is a concern to me. i have been assured by the mayor that he will be appointing at least one lgbt person, and i strongly encourage him to make two of the three appointments to be lgbt.

when you look at the portion of san francisco that is lgbt, two is much closer to that percentage than one, and i will continue to urge the mayor to do that. we have several qualified candidates come before the rules committee, but i understand that the rules committee had -- it is a real challenge when you have a lot of good candidates coming forward, and i want to thank the committee for its work. supervisor campos: thank you. i do not want to repeat a lot of what has been said. i do think that we had a lot more qualified candidates than we had spots for and perhaps any of us would have made the choices differently. certainly, there are people that i think -- that i would like to see on this task force. i think that in the end, the

three people that came out of the committee as a whole are a good representation of san francisco, so i would be supporting that the choice today. i do hope, though, that the mayor does have the opportunity to fill the three spots that he has with a couple of members of the lgbt community, and i think there are many qualified candidates who already have gone through the process, and i would hope that he looks at them as he is considering his options. thank you. supervisor chiu: colleagues, any further discussion? can we take this item same house, same call? without objection, this motion is approved and these of what's are made. congratulations. 47. >> item 47, motion appointing chief gregory suhr and commander lyn tomioka 4 indefinite terms

freddie was discovered by firefighters responding to a fire in a recycling bin near the tennis courts in buena vista park at 4:30 in morning. his body was discovered on the border of districts 8 and 5. it certainly raises alarming concern. our prayers go to freddie's family during this difficult time. i have been contacted by the police department, who is seeking help from the public in the investigation. anyone with information regarding the circumstances or may have observed anything out of the ordinary in the early morning hours of friday, june 10, are asked to contact sfpd homicide detail at 553-1145, during hours and after hours, 553-1145. or anonymous tip line, 575-4444. i do not think we can quite see

well, but this is his "we need your help" poster now being circulated throughout the lower haight area. so we can get some identification. the rest i will submit. >> thank you. supervisor elsbernd. supervisor elsbernd: thank you. i also have just one item, and it is also an in memoriam. i ask that the board adjourned today's meeting in memory meetingrobert pender. -- in memory of robert pender. he was a tenant at parkmerced for 40-plus years, a tremendous advocate for the community throughout san francisco. in fact, the majority of his advocacy was probably for tenants outside of parkmerced. in no way to that comment be meant to take away from his

advocacy work for his friends and neighbors and residents of parkmerced, whom he was 100% committed to, but robert was truly a great man. no question over the last 12 years working with the residents of district 7, robert and i came across each other quite a bit. many times on opposite sides, but on the rare occasion on the same side, but the thing with robert that i always appreciated -- it did not matter if we disagreed. we always be engaged with the next issue. he was absolutely one of those rare people who have the ability to disagree while still being agreeable. he was a true gentleman. a former city employee as well. he worked for the municipal railway. that was his career. he worked for me -- muni throughout his career and got into the advocacy world policy retirement. his is a name that will be missed, but not forgotten. just over a year ago, we had a

ceremony. even with the reconstruction, redeveloped out at parkmerced, that area remains and will always be known as robert pender place. his legacy will live on in perpetuity, and in the hearts and minds of everyone that advocated with him. >> thank you. supervisor campos. supervisor campos: thank you. i just have a quick item. i have a hearing request on the reported recommendations that were issued by the voting systems task force that completed its work very recently, and we, i think, should hear directly from them on what the recommendations are. i am asking that this operation be referred to the city operations and neighborhood services committee. the rest i submit. thank you. >> thank you.

supervisor avalos. supervisor farrell supervisor farrell: farrell thank you -- supervisor farrell. supervisor farrell: thank you. a couple of quick items today. for those of us on the board, and i know many of us have young families in the city, and i know i am not alone in saying that a time of my friends and colleagues have left the city. one thing strikes me is we have a ton of data, but it is in different places, and this hearing will call for those groups to come together to talk about the issue and try to understand it a lot better, and going forward, enacting policies to stem the flight. second, an in memoriam as well. i would like to adjourn in memory of evelyn warner, a neighbor of mine, a friend -- the mother of a neighbor of mine, a friend of mine. she was a fourth generation san

franciscan and proud graduate of convent and dominican college, and she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years and survived by her brother and four children and will be sorely missed. my thoughts go out to rich and his entire family. >> thank you. supervisor kim. supervisor kim: thank you. many of you in the public have been following some of the recent shootings that occurred on market and sixth street in district 6 of the past two weeks. just wanted to give a quick update to my colleagues and the public. thursday, june 9, there was a shooting on sixth street and market in the morning. it seriously injured one of our residents, a 43-year-old man, who was hit by a stray bullet and was an unintended victim. he did recover, and we have been in contact with his family to see how we can continue to support them.

the family support specialist at the south of market child-care center reached out to our office to request that we gather a community meeting to help develop some solutions in terms of how we address the issue of public safety in our neighborhood. last thursday, with the committee, we were able to successfully convene a meeting. we have over 100 residents and service providers between fifth and eighth street, out. it was a really amazing turn out, very diverse from condo home owners to tenants and youth service providers. we got some really great ideas out of that meeting, including establishing the substation on 63 as quickly as possible between market and mission, something redevelopment has been working on, and increasing for patrol. increasing positive activities in the south of market and 10 area.

there are also ideas of enforcing, having liver stores patrol the area in front of their stores and other ways that the neighborhood can get involved in safety organizations. over the weekend, as you heard, before pride parade on saturday evening at roughly 6:00 p.m., five people were injured do the shooting. two were seriously injured. i want to thank the captain from tenderloin precinct for rushing down. he was at an event onset -- at st. francis with his wife and was called in because the captain was not in san francisco at the time. even though it was not his precinct area, he came quickly to address the issue and talk to the media. we are exponentially grateful to him for being such a community- oriented police officer and captain and encouraging more foot patrol in the tenderloin. in many cases, we have seen the activity on market street because he has been so active in

the neighborhood. one thing i want to emphasize about district 6 is it is a highly engaged community where more positive things are happening than - peer but of course, issues of violence and garner a lot of media attention -- and more positive things happen and -- than negative. there are a lot of things we have to address, not just more police on the streets. i also wanted to lay out some of its coming up in the future that our community will try to rally around. this friday, we are doing is sent off to one of our baseball teams from betsy carmichael elementary school, that is going to arizona to represent san francisco. and if you can make an out, we want to celebrate the positive things happening in our neighborhood. second, we are planning silence the violence event in august. a march from betsy carmichael to city hall. thank you very much. >> thank you.
