drama or hype of what this is about. what this is about is not not cooperating with immigration authorities or secure communities. it is about due process, and due process where there is the one established now. i think it is consistent with san franciscan interests and desires. it is important we address some of the recklessness of what secure communities has caused. we know based on statistics that have been kept, which is what a number of state governors throughout the country are pushing forward on similar legislation. 70% of individuals supported under secure communities have no criminal record or have been found to have committed low- level crimes, including domestic

byron's -- violence survivors whose only contact with the police happened because the call for help. we need a better response. this resolution helps bring attention to what is being considered on the state level. supervisor campos: i do not want to repeat what supervisor mercury said, but i do want to note that the criticism of the so-called secure communities is something that is not coming from all parts of the country, from a number of leaders. i think that mainstream there is a lot of reason for concern. we certainly have the governor of the state of new york. we have other governors. we have the minority leader, our own congressperson, nancy pelosi, who has identified concerns with this initiative. it is important to join that chorus so there is a different take.

good intentions, perhaps, but this is having unintended consequences. supervisor chu: figure. from my point of view, i understand there are a lot of unintended consequences with this that i think many of us would not want to see continued. my concern has always been what does it mean for the prospect of sharing information across states. i would like to request a continuance so i have time to understand that better. president chiu: is there a second to that? seconded by supervisor campos. a continuance to the sixth of september. any objections? without objection, this item will be continued as such. if we could now move to item 60 -- we still have to do item 64,

and 54. why don't we move to item 64? >> approving the final map located on columbus avenue. president chiu: i am not sure who had asked to sever this item, but i would like to be added as a sponsor to it. it came out of work i had done with constituents in my district. calis, same house, called -- colleagues, same house, same call? this motion is approved. item 54 has already been called. supervisor elsbernd: colleagues, the clerk of the board distributed an amendment for this item before the board meeting started. it is on your desk. the amendment eliminates from the motion the various ballot measures that are no longer on the ballot. on top of that, i would like to add one more amendment. on page 4 of the motion, the

opposition to supervisor weiner's charter amendment -- if we could strike that from the ballot, that would be my motion. president chiu: supervisor elsbernd has proposed his amendment as he has described it. he has amended his motion to eliminate lines 23 through 25 on page four, seconded by supervisor supervisor campos:amp -- by supervisor campos. that passes as amended. same house, same call? passed as amended. madam clerk, could you read the in memorials for today? i am sorry. we passed it already. >> yes, mr. president.

around the city. updated at regular intervals from the comfort of their home or workplace. next bus uses satellite technology and advanced computer modeling to track buses and trains, estimating are bought stocks with a high degree of accuracy. the bus and train our arrival information can be accessed from your computer and even on your cellular phone or personal digital assistant. knowing their arrival time of the bus allows riders the choice of waiting for it or perhaps doing some shopping locally or getting a cup of coffee. it also gives a greater sense that they can count on you to get to their destination on time. the next bus our arrival information is also transmitted to bus shelters around the city equipped with the next bus sign. riders are updated strictly about arrival times. to make this information available, muni has tested push

to talk buttons at trial shelters. rider when pushes the button, the text is displayed -- when a rider pushes the button. >> the success of these tests led to the expansion of the program to all stations on the light rail and is part of the new shelter contract, push to talk will be installed. check out the new technology making your right easier every day

i am the city library and. it is my honor to be your emcee today. it is a program that we begin the ceremonies today by having an invocation. so i would like to call to the podium dr. walker, from the true hope church of god and christ. dr. walker. [applause] >> to the state leadership, san francisco leadership, and community leadership, let me say to all of you who are here today as a make preparations to indulge in prayer, i would like to get your attention. this is of great and wonderful day for the city, st. francis, by way of the golden gate. you cannot have a world-class city without will class leadership for the community and

world class people. bayview hunters point is a world-class community. i thought i would read a couple of versus from first timothy chapters one vs one and two, which will be corporate for this invocation. would you be so kind to doubt your head momentarily. first of all, prayer, and giving of thanks be made of all men. four kings and all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in godliness. in the name of god and jesus, we thank you that the leadership of this groundbreaking for this place of wisdom, the place where

they can come and make this community more positive. there are a lot of positives despite the negatives. this is a great positive thing. we can expand our village of knowledge. + mayor lee, supervisors, and those present who had something to do with the state today. amen. [applause] >> thank you for those inspiring words, doctor. today, we have to use our imagination. this is a large space that we will have within the next 18 months a beautiful state of the art library. if you can imagine hundreds of youngsters walking through the door here on third avenue, going into a wonderful spacious children's room, full of materials to inspire and have their creative juices flowing.

then we will have another wonderful space on this side for teenagers, for them to be in a save in welcoming environment, for them to be created to develop their minds. what better place than a neighborhood library? behind me, a wonderful courtyard to enjoy days like today in the bayview. where you are seated in front of me, we will have an amazing collection of books, materials. this will be 25% bigger than the library that was already here. state-of-the-art with computers, wi-fi, providing access to our young people's. a wonderful community programs, lectures, to really represent the spirit of bayview. how about that for your new library?

let me also say this community has been one of the models for community engagement. every neighborhood meeting we had, we had up to 100 people that held our feet to the fire, that told us exactly what you wanted to see happen. it was wonderful to work with you on that. thank you, bayview, for not only selling for a modest renovation, but for a brand new, wonderful library. there are many wonderful folks i want to take a moment to acknowledge because they have done a fantastic job in that effort. i want to start with a terrific asset we have, which we are fortunate to have with us, linda. she is fantastic. [applause] also from the neighborhood, a couple of folks that have been very active with our counsel of

the neighborhood libraries. mary pavis and larry. [applause] thank you for involvement. and of course, ms. jackson. i do not see libya -- there we are. thank you for your fantastic efforts. we have not forgotten that we still need to have a library presents during this new building construction. so we have the ymca to thank, a couple of blocks, to offer services. so i want to thank the folks there.
