the citizen advisory committee. the one to take a couple of moments and talk a little bit about your experience and the reason why you want to join? >> i served on a taskforce for about 10 years. very focused on power plants in the eastern neighborhood. high attendance was probably 95%. at the beginning of that, i helped put together a group of about 25 architects, land use attorneys, and so forth working with the office creating veteran neighborhoods, it never passed, but it served as a framework for the eastern neighborhood planning process.

i have attended all but two of the eastern neighborhood meetings, i am pretty well versed. i am a consultant and strategist for businesses and developers. i have a conflict at the beginning. when susan retired from the board, high applied. supervisor kim: any questions? thank you very much. i will not open it up for public comment. >> ♪ east is east west is west please pick the best ♪ supervisor kim: thank you.

>> thank you for considering my appointment. i currently serve as the executive director of sentences the state university. have been there only for seven months. this to give you a little background about our program, we serve 390 a low income children. and we provide services not only to promote their growth and development, has to support school readiness, but we also support primary educators of their children. headstart is the nation's premiere of the education

program and is really a model of what prevention programs can achieve to overcome risks and disadvantages in children and families. this is why i consider it an honor to serve. i am an early childhood educator by training and have spent most of my career as an early childhood educator. i have been a public servant my entire life in addition to supporting early childhood education. i spent nine years working for regional planning organization and five years managing. i have a great appreciation and respect for community planning in a share in decision making. i have been attending the meeting since i arrived seven months ago. i do feel that i have brought new perspectives to the group

and the members will tell you that there have been occasions when i was able to help the group moved from discussion into decision making. head start the mandate for the program to be involved in community planning. i would really welcome and appreciate being appointed. supervisor kim: if we could have the third applicant? >> s. king to be appointed as a member of the child care planning council. i have been a member for approximately five years now previously appointed by the board of education as a child

care provider, they need representation on this board. there are over 600 homes providing care for the 6000 children citywide. they're left out of planning and policy decisions that affect their businesses and the children they care for. as a member, i like to help ensure that child care providers participate fully on planning bodies in public policy related to child care. i'd like to ensure that the child care providers have the resources they need, including support programs and access to subsidized child care programs. there is a strong advisory role at all of these areas.

i have served as a mentor to many providers as they prepare for assistance and being in the year when they needed to be heard. i have served as a neighborhood network leader in the district and in the past, high serve on the family child care association of san francisco's advisory board. i like to continue representing child care providers and i hope he will appoint me. >> i was curious if you felt in district 11 if there has been proper out -- and enough education among families in that area. >> i think there could be a lot more done. the have the highest rate.

she just happens to hear about me through a friend. she did not hear about me for any other resource. how would she have found out of a that a friend that told her about me? there needs to be more. >> any idea of how to improve outreach? i have a lot of concerns about ensuring that, particularly in district 11 and parts of a dying. -- parts of nine. we want to make sure the day have access because it is a huge factor in terms of closing the achievement gap. supervisor kim: at this time, will open up for public comment

on item number three. >> i am the coordinator of the planning council she was supposed to be appointed and is on vacation. heavily she sent an e-mail to each of the rules committee members explaining why she could not be here today. she would be a consumer representative as a parent who is using those child care services. there is a wider range of representatives on the council. and the consumer positions have always been the toughest ones. who really like to move forward. also we understand if you want to wait until she is back from vacation to see her in person. and led to speak to both and

barbara and marjorie. she is at almost every single meeting. his very active in the child- care world. and any work force committee also. and she has been at every meeting she can possibly attend. how highly encouraged their appointment. and to speak to district 11. we're in the process of doing our assessment for child care, and mandate from the states. of that it will be due at the end of next year. >> thank you very much. >> i hope whoever you pick, i ♪ hope they'll be there.

now. half of our clients call in voluntary hold on psychiatric units. the difference of our mandate to exist, with knowledge persons with mental disabilities. when is interesting about this is its address is: abilities. part of my job is to go in there. and determine what is appropriately based on their rights.

following the book, i wasn't directing with the homeless. all of these neighborhoods, it is going to switch to historic downtown. of like to be part of the process and to really look after the clients. supervisor kim: what type of voice the hope to bring to ensure that benefits to help stabilize the community.

i am currently working with the owners and operators. it is part of the phoenix hotel. they have had. we have also been working with the vendor at the heart of the farmers' market that is looking to open up the tenderloin. the revisory committee, i would advocate who represent these concerns of small business owners. and also provide a list of benefits to the community stakeholders. i also think that there are endless possibilities for larger

corporations and small businesses to provide reciprocal benefits to each other. especially in an area that is rich with community resources and significant challenges. they encouraged and exchange resources and provide significant benefits. i also want to add that i currently served on the mid market had representing an organization that services and small business in the mid market area. there of the larger companies moving into the area. can you talk a little bit about that? >> i would hope to see reciprocal benefits. supervisor kim: to be more

specific, you have a good relationship and a strong sense of small businesses in the neighborhood? >> i think the small businesses in the neighborhood are really kind of special and distinct from the small business in other parts of the city because of the challenging landscape. how have a lot of the same concerns -- and there is like a different level of expertise and what their challenges are. you know, i would hope to see that larger corporations are giving business to small businesses. catering, using whatever they are selling in terms of their business. and also, the small businesses. i'm sorry. i just lost my train of thought,

expertise and homelessness, transitional of use, and housing. i live in district 6 and i was formerly homeless. formally, i served on the board of directors for homelessness. i also work currently as a chauffeur client advocate. in that role, what i do is help clients that currently live in shelters. i do extensive outreach and advocacy were. i live in a homeless shelter when i was homeless and had a great understanding of what it is like and the challenges that are faced not only by the residents involved but also the shelter staff. i also served with the

monitoring committee which is the vehicle of the shelters and insures that the standards of care are being met. i have been on the body for two years and was just recently appointed to the chair. i feel that i am well rounded with the knowledge of what it is like to be homeless, what it is like to live in district 6. i would love to serve on this body because there is currently a disconnect which means small businesses and homeless people and i would like to bridge that and actually help businesses hire people who are homeless. working together, we can solve many problems. we can provide them with employment and also helping to improve the number of businesses and the livelihood of those businesses. >> thank you. are there any questions?
