>> i am terrified i am going to hit someone. they do whatever they want at any given time. it is scary. have you thought about licensing, taking the class and maybe some kind of procedure. >> there is waves of discussion. sfmta did an analysis and found there is the jurisdiction to do it. i do not know enough to explain it. it would take a lot of work. we're focusing -- we met with the mayor and the chief of police. that is the thing to emphasize. we see people sometimes be

jerks, whether they are driving or skateboarding. it is something some folks do. one thing we want to do is team up with the police to do information campaigns. for people who run red lights or stop signs. it is illegal and you are doing something bad. let's send them to a class. make them sit through a four hour class. this idea of how do we get the folks who are misbehaving into an education opportunity. this idea where we could make sure we get into safety. >> it is interesting. upgrading to a car and i went

back to a bicycle. if i was on a bicycle, i thought the blacks were the worst in the world. i started looking at the bicyclist as the worst in the world. i note in san francisco there is such hilly terrain. i would get out at 7:00 a.m. and cycle down to the building and take the boat across town. it was one of the best times in my life. it was fun coming back. it was not to bet on the way down. on the way back it was hectic. there is a lot of work building up momentum.

you have to come to this job. and there is all that energy. you have to generate it again. do not jump across -- just stop and work up the energy. it is more of a comment. i'm all for it. >> you can look on our website. that is the idea. tickets to your point of everyone looking at the other. it is our responsibility. >> is there any public comment on this issue? >> hello again. i want to preface what i am going a 90-year-old member of or

church was knocked over by a bicyclist near church and market. she had the right of way. the bicyclist -- there were witnesses to this. the bicyclist did not have any brakes. just go speeding through the red light. our friend was hospitalized. she has lost independence. she had to move in with relatives. there is a real problem with out of control bicyclist. i have been shocked that the coalition has such influence over public space but they hold no public meetings. i do not think that is ok. i think they have this tremendous influence and they should have a set of four public meetings to hear from the

public that it is fed up with out of control bikers. i stick to the right hand side and go very slowly because i have vision issues. i do not fear muni or cabbies. i fear other bikers. the bike coalition is not addressing the serious problems we have where bikers do not stop for red lights. and just tremendous disrespect for other bikers. there are no recommendations. bikers pass on the left. the talk about red predictably. is -- that maine -- means they're going to be writing crazy. this has a larger responsibility to deal with these issues and i will point out that this great,

a glossy brochure, the woman is not wearing a helmet. look at the adults in this big picture. they're not wearing helmets. this is the tip of the iceberg of how this organization does not take safeties seriously. how can you put out a brochure where there are more people on bicycles without helmets? if the bicycle coalition wants to get more people on, they will have to start lookinlistening te public's that is fed up with our 90-year-old friends hit by bikers that do not stop the red lights. where is a campaign on paper from the bicycle coalition telling bikers red means stop. i hope you will ask them for some safety improvements. thank you. >> thank you.

any further public comment? public comment is closed. >> this is an informational briefing matter. there is no action item. >> next item. >> commissioners, the prisoners for the next item will be joining us shortly. -- the presenters for the next item will be joining us shortly. would you like to move on to reports? >> i want to say something. >> would you like to return to item 10? >> do we need a motion for that? >> you can return.

7:10 am
are going to move on to item 11. presentation, discussion, and possible action on the office of small business branding. we have a presentation by the firm rhdg. >> before rhdg began as the presentation, we have had some discussions. at our retreat we talked about possibly a new logo for the commission. in the discussion of taking a look at another logo and taking a look at different departments, i have presented to you in the past a couple of meetings ago an overview. we're looking at more of a department identity. as we begin to grow, and we're
7:11 am
having more interfacing in a departmental manner. what we have worked with is to help us develop a department identity. and while the commission's lago is here, we can take a look at our next retreat. and continue or develop a new logo. in regards to the discussion we had, we have the office of small business and the business assistance center. the office of small business tends to me the name that is communicated in more of a department-department relationship. and then we can move into
7:12 am
possibly we have an assistant center at the office of small business. many individuals confuse the small business assistance center with the fba. we needed to figure out a way to distinguish ourselves. part of our direction is that what the office not to have a government field but more of a business to business field. in the logo. so that businesses would identify and c.s. and identify with us and feel comfortable in approaching the office. there is the overview in section 11. jeff will provide information in terms of the staff. it has been whittled down to one logo. jeff will give us some
7:13 am
background. we're having them work with us on a branding for the office. we will be redoing the website. we have to get the lowdown. i will turn it over to you. >> that was a good set up. this is my first time here. you are seeing what i see in terms of the powerpoint presentation? that is what we have been tasked to do. identity development. we are if rolhave been around fs now. we specialize in doing social marketing. we have been working with the office of small business for three years now. our task was to create a specific identity. and -- >> because we need to have you speaking to the microphone --
7:14 am
can you turn on the microphone by the powerpoint, please? >> i am good over here? i can stay here? ok. what we were looking at in terms of logo, there is a logo for the small business commission and assistance center but there is not an identity for the office of small business itself. we were trying to create an identity that is halfway between the middle. it is a public facing in today. the small business community. it is something that can house the assistance center and other offerings by the office of small

business. our process is to develop a creative brief period to encapsulate what we are trying to accomplish design & multiple solutions. apply the solution to an identity system. we have developed and the creative brief. we have done multiple solutions. we are finding one solution. after that step we will apply that to other materials. just to give you a brief overview of what we were tasked to do. what we want to do is create a logo that communicate something that when people think of the office of small business, they think it is not just the first place for small business. it serves as a small-business community and the legislative capacity. what we want them to feel as confidence. or connect me to the assistance

and resources. who we are talking to is the range of small businesses. this can be in -- we have other organizations throughout the city. our strategy is our business is for small business. this is a rough encapsulation. we want to position the office so that is that resources for the small community. >> is that -- that is beautiful. our business is your small business. >> we did write that. thank you. we have to variations on the same theme of these once we have narrowed it down to. what we're trying to do is establish this look of
7:17 am
connection. we have a mark on the left with the o. then this connected script. it is the place for everything you need is connected. it creates a distinctive mark that is friendly and accessible. we have to variations. one worthy -- where the b is upper case and then lower case. that is where we are now. we hae to do color aspirations. color will bring our range to it as well. then we will be applying this to any new trifled brochure and we will create a pocket folder.

commissioner o'connor: i want to put in my 2 cents. it would be great to move away from the traditional logo which features the tallest building in the city that has nothing to do with small business. >> i agree. >> when we did research in terms of other departments, the planning department, many of the departments that have commissions, they have a logo and not necessarily commission logo. at the next retreat, once we have the office branding identity, we can talk about what we want to do with the logo. >>the next is an action item.
7:21 am
the discussions are enough to work with. >> the feedback gives you some sense of direction. >> what we're hearing is looking at the upper case being with the slight curve and from there make a final decision. >> do we have any public comment? no further public comment. >> one last thing i did not identify in my opening remarks. jeff designed our "starting a small business" booklet.

7:24 am
for new entrepreneurs but for businesses, existing businesses in the small range amount. we announced a continuing and -- continuance of funding. there are some grants available in other parts of the city. >> i am gratified to see that program is continuing. i've visited the ocean avenue district and i have seen what those improvements can do. it is a tremendous list -- lift to the littell corridor. -- little corridor. >> i submitted a job description soo we will be
