states in 1987. i did not speak any english. i worked hard for a year and a half, and -- specific names. i tried to get better jobs, in restaurants. 80 years after this i got the opportunity to work for this task force. so i had no idea what this was. people know that in spanish. i decided i would take a risk and that i would do this.

i was first and -- after a while, the company went out of business and i lost my place. and i became homeless after that. and now, i did not work for a couple of years. i started to go to the conditional homelessness, to do whatever i can just do -- i

think that -- i have a lot of experience with talking with people, -- >> i could not see this on your present day. he speaks spanish fluently? i know that you live in oakland. a new volunteer in san francisco. do you work in san francisco? >> i am working down to the city -- >> do you think that you'll be challenged in doing many of the visitations, because you do not work in san francisco?

convenience services shelter. i think that i will speak. i would like to talk about what i see as the three priorities that i would look for in a candidate. the first, spanish-speaking ability has been mentioned many times. i do not want to put this other kinds of diversity or demographics, i think this is over all an effort to make this as representative of the committee as possible. i want to mention, leadership skills are something that are needed on the committee. if you compare the way this committee functions, compared to the local homeless coordinating board, in terms of setting up committees and work groups, the sheltering monitor committee could use some leadership to

take it in this direction, for the participation. somebody with that kind of experience would be great. and the spirit of collaboration is something that we have seen before and i hope that any candidates coming into the committee would come in with the intention to collaborate in good faith. not the mindset of being on one side or the other. the spirits of collaboration -- thank you. >> thank you so much. and are there any other public speakers? he spoke -- ok. >> there are several things that we do need, some serious leadership. this is about the vision of what

we will be able to have if -- i spoke to other people in the rules committee about what i would like to achieve, and there is a line item for food and the transgendered shelters, the one that will be opening up and there are several issues. i want to hear from the homeless about what they need. we cannot just throw cliches at them. we need to include them. other people come in from out of town. they do not get paid enough for the transportation costs.

recover items from public health. >> thank you. >> i am from the shelters office and i would like to give a brief presentation about this resolution. the lead for revenue -- 47 cisco general hospital and public health, medical charges are based on the ability to pay. six things happened in this case that lead us task the committee and the board for the approval of this resolution. the first is that the medical charges were incurred by a minor, and the parents have the ability to pay when this was incurred, and the charges have not been paid at this time. we have done this, almost seven

>> i am the director of visual arts programming at intersection for the arts. intersection for the arts is based in san francisco and has

always been an organization that looks at larger social political issues through the lens of practice, and we are here today at our exhibition of "chico and chang." the original inspiration was drawn from a restaurant chain in new york city. half of their menu is -- what struck me was the graphic pictures and a man in a hat on a rig truck carrying take that time is containers and in the black sea to representation of a mexican guy wearing a sombrero and caring a somali horn. it struck me that these two large, very subversive complex cultures could be boiled down to such simple representations. chico and chang primarily looks

at four topic areas. one of the man was is whose stories are being told and how. one of the artisans in the show has created an amazing body of work working with young adults calling themselves the dreamers. another piece of the exhibition talks about whose stories of exhibition are actually being told. one artist created a magnificent sculpture that sits right in the center of the exhibition. >> these pieces are the physical manifestation of a narrative of a child in memory. an important family friend give us a dining table, very important, and we are excited about it. my little brother and i were 11, 14. we were realizing that they were kind of hand prints everywhere on the bottom where no one would really see, and it became this kind of a
