my name is supervisor kim, i'm joined by supervisor farrell and supervisor campos. the committee would like to acknowledge the staff of records each of our meetings and make the transcript's available. are there any announcements? >> silence so phones and electronic devices. copies of any documents as part of the file should be submitted to the clerk. the items will appear on the february 28 board of supervisors agenda unless otherwise stated. supervisor kim: as many of you know, we have a packed agenda today. there are people waiting to speak on several items, so first we will call item no. 1. >> resolution establishing a balboa park station plan advisory committee to provide input and community overside related to area transportation
1:43 pm
and other public improvements. supervisor kim: thank you. the author of this resolution actually will be here to present. prior to doing that, why don't we open up to public comment if there are any on this item. line up, two minutes. >> hello. my name is aldo sanchez, i work for the vernal heights neighborhood center. i am here in support of the creation of an advisory committee for the balboa park station. given it is a combination of land use, housing policy, and i think it is important to have a group of community members that could oversee the development of the plans to make sure that the priorities are well-represented in this committee.
1:44 pm
i think it is going to be one of the plans that will be very important for the southeast portion of the city. specifically because of the lack of affordable housing in the area and the tremendous impact working-class families are facing in san francisco. on behalf of the vernal heights neighborhood center, i am here to support the creation of this committee. i hope that we have a good, representative body on board. i hope that out of this committee, we create good plans and good advice for the implementation of the ballpark pllboa park plan. supervisor kim: think you for being here. >> good afternoon, committee members. i'm dan weaver, my qualifications for speaking today on my interest in being here, being involved in the
1:45 pm
balboa plan process for 10 years as of 2009 plus three more after that. 2009 was when the plan was put into effect. i think that this idea of doing a citizens advisory committee is a useful thing even though it is a few years late. as often is, i am noticing in planning department plans that we need a citizens advisory committee, particularly for the transit station area which is a tough challenge for any urban planning effort, including san francisco. i think that the ability of a cac to provide advice and leadership would be an excellent contribution to moving the balboa area plan forward in the future. thank you. supervisor kim: thank you, mr. weaver.
1:46 pm
i want to a knowledge that president david chiu has arrived. >> i am the executive director of the ocean avenue organization. i want to say that the board of oaa is in support of the cac plan and the balboa park plan. we are looking forward to working with the sfmta and board of supervisors to provide oversight. >> afternoon, sueprvisrs -- supervisors. i published the newspaper that serves balboa park, and a member of the powerhouse that is a little thing we're doing over there. i support this, i urge you to
1:47 pm
support it because balboa park is a gem. it is the identified as a priority development area by the bay area plan. it has great potential, right next to city college, a high- school. thank you very much. supervisor kim: thank you. are there other public speakers for item number one? >> good morning, supervisors. i lived nearby in westwood park. i would like to speak out in favor of this resolution, but i have some concerns that i think the advisory committee should address in the future. the obvious one is the traffic congestion here at the station. the second one is changes along falen avenue for traffic for city college.
