. there are pockets of familys that are placing several challenges. on the mission there's been a large number of displaced latino families. so my last -- the last information they understood that i received with that in the mission the number of latino families has not increased. >> has not? >> it's remained about the same and that many latino families have relocated to the tenderloin, south to market area. >> to the bay view. >> around into the bay vue. what i do like about this program is that it's prom prehensive. >> i see that sheryl davis is here.

so i think it's a conversation that needs to happen in all the neighborhoods. so hopefully, you know -- >> yeah, we are building the housing peace in. this is something that metta does all right and working on several organizations to and part of that is affording homeownership and other strategies in housing. i completely agree. and i want to make sure that the addresses as we have mentioned. we know it will be the first and not the last. we washt to make sure we provide that experience. i -- >> and healthy neighborhood is something that d.p.h. has been

mar we are under no illusion that we can do what. we can come without some great results and great outcome. but we will be doing it differently and collaborativity. it's nonet be a plant based strootjis. we don't have it hear. i agree with you but one of key things that i took away with is the level of accountability that they have within the -- it. >> one of the things that we did see was that much of the ha lay. this of the familiarries we do not want to have change about the -- you know, just thank you

rich culture and diversity that we have and the mission. part of our strategy is more homeownership ghent the families and really wantsing toe see that happen and not to have, you know, inch to change overnight and you could see, i mean, it was really some positive changes. there are some real things but you also saw some families. noer able to afford to lee this. we have a number of people in are moving into the neighborhood which is a -- which means home places are being helped.

the one thing that i also want to under score the very important rose -- may your office has splead in this and not only mayor leave but also commissioner mendoza. the facting that these city agencies the fact that the mayer has made this a priority and it sends a very clear message. so i really want to under score the importance of that and thank him and thank commissioner mendoza for helping to make this. another key player who is not here is the superintendent of d cools he was very involved in making this a rault. i know that at the board of supervisors economy acknowledge

tough ax to the mission. i wanted to say thank you to the supervisor. i love the model and a lot of the work that we've done in the western edition has been around looking what they've done in the harlem children's zone and talking about it block by block and how we brining folks in and coming from the same space which is public safety being the motivate moing picture. when we start talking about wanting to branch out but not just by neighborhood but city wide and looking at what's going on with the outand then looking at what's going on with regards to our prison systems and the disparity of who's in there relative to who lives in the city. i think the more we can do around the promise effort, the

greatest it is for minorities for black and brown people. everybody reforce us but be -- we know it's based on reading core and what's lapping so the more we can partner with him is to make sure that out of school time is being supported and the more we ve to blileds that and to talk about comprehensive. not just the economics but making sure that people have a good glace to love. the mission society as the harlem's children program is they have on slight health care. the -- i'm in what they have is where you start from the womb. i would really like to see more

that people were competitive. that students were given those -- that so that's why we asked >> thank you for having us. what excited to talk about it. we're prouse at some of the bork. i'm just covement i do the partnership gotment. i this is my colleague. >> my name se van decker. supervisor campos: can you speak into the mic please? i don't know if that's working. >> my name's evan decker, i'm the pathways coordinator. i work with teachers and making sure that students having all the opportunities they need to coordinate with businesses and are given 24 century skills that we helped them to get.

i wanted to thank you all for having us here i'll give you a brief overview of our program. our partnership with the advisory board with businesses and organizations. our main goal is to provide opportunities for students to success in post secondary options, whether that's the college, career, preapprenticeship program and the challenge in doing this is that the majority of the jobs that we're prepared these students for, have yet to be create. so we're doing that through making them aware of necknology . i'm going to skip the first slide you guys have in front of you. it's just nurms.

didn't have the support. we are ensuring that our curriculum is u.c. a-g approved. it's current to what the industry needs. we do that through our advisory boards and national affiliations that we have. we also cold heart our students for two to four years, so they're getting that the relationship with the teachers, the students and the industry advisory members that are a part of that. we do partnerships with business, the extensive partnership with seven different advisory boards that are industry pacific working with the teachers and higher

education. these are three themes that you'll see within all of our economy. but it's another version of the three r's. it's the -- like i said the core subject, so so the england and the i.t. class are working together on projects. the el advancey by getting out sbue the workplace. but also vetting that curriculum as i mentioned with industry professionals. and then the relationships with the teachers, the students being pulled together and the industry being in the classroom or students being out in the workplace several times a week typically. the next slide is where we're at. the schools where we haved a academies, they break down with

academies. it's a pretty broad speck truck of the system that is that's because they feel 10 or 15 years based on which economy. over the last few years with crew steck eds restructuring re-organization. we started to work which we're going to talk about right now actually with our version of the cause and creerp continue wum. it's a version that we've been using for a few years now. it's a version that we vetted through tefrl -- television. it's not only a continuum of student work-base but it shows

that they can dial in to better understand their opportunities that they progress through their experience in our schools. what we have here is really a framework for teachers, students and business partners that kidse our students. you see beginning in the seventh and eighth grade for all students are participating with this lirk william. ninth grade. the curriculum is a requirement beginning this year where all opportunities are getting college and career goals. they're happening to map out to make sure that their meeting of the graduation requirements were also working with -- had business partner? s to and we heard there are a

lot of c.e.o. and nonprofit organizations that had many, many students. if they're not able to participate in their classroom, they can participate them in the ninth grade. we partnersed have closely. they provide many enterships for us and we'll be able to provide for our entership summer seminar, able to provide summer credit. our our -- we worked with san francisco c.t.e. department to provide doesn'ts for our students to get a head up on college -- gaining college credits. so most of the classes that are available at city college are arranged through the c.t. department and they tie directly into the elective

classes that students are participating in. in 12th are in. it was great to hear so much talk about the high school. quite a few of you were there and we had agreed and since that we are working with the carpenters union to provide the oppression of training. students will have that opportunity to go into that pre- apprenticeship training. here is the steps program available to all students. it helps students with the high school enrollment process. where the schools have interest programs for them. this is a gaps funded and pearson curriculum looked at as

a model for the state of california and also is being pushed into the 10th grade. we're excited about that. it is a first step for all students. we want to at your request dive more into specifically the information and technology academies. we have not looked at the information and communication technology. we recently changed the time -- the title based on industry lingo as well as what our partners are using. we started using that technology. the five ict's across the district collectively have 700 students enrolled and the typical jobs would be after some post-secondary education.

would site developer, game developer, each one of those is a slightly different focus and they work with board members to ensure those are worthwhile to be working on with students. they work with an advisory board that has 18 business members from city colleges as well as other higher education institutions. at the beginning of each year they go through a strategic planning session and teachers, the leaders from the academies to talk about what the academies will need for that year. this year being a brand new advisory board. the identified class from speakers -- classroom speakers, identifying as many needs as possible. teacher professional enrollment, getting the teachers out into the workplace so they can have

some real world experience and to be current and also field trips for students. we would like to highlight one academy specific, the i.t. academy. it will graduate its first senior class of their i.t. academy this year. they are affiliated with the national academy foundation which helps provide a lot of the curriculum the teachers are using. currently, they have 170 students participating. the students begin with a program of study focused in networking and computer applications. they then moved into web design, and ultimately in 12th grade, they have a project in broadcasting and video production. today in the life video where they're taking their cameras and using the skills they developed over the past three years and interacting with business partners about what is they do in classroom and their posting

those videos -- they are posting those videos as well as their colleagues in school to see and bring more awareness. what we see with the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade is the beginning of awareness and exploration and preparation. that is along with our continuum. using the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. and finally 12 great as preparation for post secondary activities. you see our community partners there, they are connecting the advisory board. they have klw on their campus and klw is making shameless promotions for their program. i want to touch on and i know

you have the definitions. i listed a few on the advisory board objectives for this year. there are some definitions that we're working on, and agreed upon standard across the city. we have been talking from people -- with people from earthworks to have some sort of city wide agreement on these terminologies so that when we are approaching business, we are -- there is some understanding. the important thing about the interfacing with students and business partners, giving that confidence by communicating and interacting and feeling part of their team. it is beneficial to everyone. here a few numbers for the work

based learning opportunities. some of the big numbers. there were 224 business compensated internships for students across our academies. places like the intercontinental, transbay terminal, fairmont hotel, lots of credit unions and banks. my students were working over the summer and attending class twice a week to receive credit. we had 200 plus job shadows in the tourism arena. and i.t. infused. others likea t the -- at the sec. heddwe had 300 students, they we preparing for their internships.

with over 100 business partners. and walked away with six informational interviews. instead of having a mock interview, the work empowered -- they were empowered and their personal career path. and we have had callus field trips and classroom speakers. at least three or five times a semester. often times more. one of the key components is the availability of our partnership with city college of san francisco. i am a teacher and special assignment and thanks to you i am part of the funding. thank you. our partnerships with city college are
