7:00 pm
thank you. vice-chair lam: thank you, next speaker. >> good evening. since the district 3 meeting which is who knows how many weeks ago, i presented a book called -- i never told you the end of it, but it is pertinent to this. i told you about a guy who saw some kids teasing a turbo, and the turtle was saved by him, so the turtle brought him to meet a princess, and he got tired and missed his family, so he wanted to come back up, and when he came back up, the princess gave the box and said, to show our love, please do not open this box again, and he kept getting
7:01 pm
depressed because he could not find his family, so he opened up a box, and he turned into an old man, and he thought, wihy? it turned out to be 300 years. he went all over his town. i am not telling you is 300 years vs. 10 years. i would ask you to please keep the japantown and fillmore. interest in tact. >> i am the education share of the naacp'. many people came on sunday, and i am here to say thank you for
7:02 pm
your hard work, for keeping japantown, the dirty all in district 5, and we hope you will continue to do so, and we respect you for your hard work. thank you. >> good evening year ago -- good evening. i am here for two reasons. firs to thank you for the work you have done, and the second reason is to let you know they are doing an article about the collaboration between japanese american residents. we have uncovered our old root
7:03 pm
spent lead new routes for the future. >> supposed apocalyptic, post containment, do not take our most progressive district out of our dialogue. solve the problem for decades, not just one. and that an articulate woman -- i met an articulate woman, and she refuted every idea. she said is a transitional neighborhood, and the importance of keeping the terminal area of floriddistrict 6, she was definy
7:04 pm
articular. if you say it is a transitional, that is my point. well bulldozing is not an issue, there are some issues. do not over think this issue. we have already agreed to maintain the district.
7:05 pm
>> i am an ex-president, and i have been our resident for about 18 years. goo>> try again. but >> i have difficult decisions, but we residents would like to remain with district 10 as atheistit is. we ask you to think about, we do not know anything about moving
7:06 pm
to district 6. we stay the same as we are a. >> next speaker. goobuy if i am a filipino ameri. filipinos are bucknethe second t asian group in san francisco. by keeping the enclaves hole and together, you give to the community an opportunity. you have been hearing neighborhoods and streets, and you connect them with certain as economic groups or racial groups or social groups. good there is an economic, her
7:07 pm
connection. if i say third streets, i am a third-generation filipino. my mother was born here, and if i say filipinos, i do not think of an area in san francisco. i think of daly city. good we have been bouncing around different areas of the city, and does have a generation has been setting roofs of all night, and i hope they keep our on curveenclaves together. >> thank you.
7:08 pm
next speaker. >> i am a 26-year resident. i look out of the portal. gmy bank is on san bruno. the chinese supermarket are frequent is on san bruno. i have what my dogs of the park. i think the argument is not belong in district 9 is bogus, and i think the argument that the 280 barrier is bigger than the 101 is a bogus argument.
7:09 pm
>> thank you. next speaker. but i am here to speak about keeping the together. as a former legislature gavaid,i have firsthand experience of the social issues and safety issues of lower hateight. the residents want to make sure we do not make the same mistake as in the last new redistricting efforts. it has been a struggle for the last 10 years in regards to
7:10 pm
safety and consistency of social issues in district 5, and our office took action because district 8 office did not have the priority is to deal with social and safety issues within the western addition. they worked together on safety issues, and used projects. everything is together, so to split it does not make sense. i am here to stay to keep it together and the interest of safety and economic development. >> next speaker please. >> good afternoon.
7:11 pm
i live in district 10. i would like to say i have been a resident since 1943. i have lived in hunters point since 1948. until 1954 when the integration law was passed, most of the >> lived in the southeast sector. we were able to start buying homes, which we did. i am here to ask you to not take it away, because historically we have worked together on issues that affect my community, which has been city planning as well as redevelopment agency as well as people not knowing terrier, so if you have not lived here, you will not know what has happened in the past, so we are together because we lived in
7:12 pm
temporary housing and the 1940's. good i want to thank you very much. because of the fact the redevelopment agency is redeveloping. thank you. >> my name is calvin, and i am here to speak in favor of the community map in regards to tonight's discussion, in favor of the fighting the eastern portion of golden gate park, but most importantly, i am here to talk about the critical importance of the last speaker's remarks.
7:13 pm
it is inconceivable to contemplate district town without metro hill region -- without petrero hill. three of the four have resided on petrero hill. do you need any more historical reality of the interconnectedness than the simple fact? the overwhelming majority were affected by votes from petrero hill and bayview hunters point. it is critical lot be kept whole. your map keieps it whole and
7:14 pm
puts it in district 9. it is also important to keep district attend united. -- to keep district attend united. >> i am the president of the neighborhood organization, and on behalf of the neighborhoods we tried to show off a little bit, i want to thank you for your continued efforts to keep the west side together, and thank you for that effort. >> thank you. next speaker. but the last time i attended a meeting of the task force --
7:15 pm
>> please state your name. >> my name is francisco. the last time i attended a meeting of the task force was willie brown, and each and every one of somthem, and this time i have refrained from coming to your meetings, but people have come and reported. i want to ask you unquestioned. i want to ask a question about demographics. economic analysis, real business spen, infrastructure, housing,
7:16 pm
schools, safety commo, and i cod give you a list of 40 or 50. those are the things that need to go into redistricting to address quality of life. i was once in district 10, and suddenly i was in district 9, so you taskforce members should have a vision. do not follow politics. that is what i am saying. >> thanks for listening to us. thanks for your work. i have been working with the people in the community, and i
7:17 pm
wanted to speak about of mclaren park. it is a wonderful place. i am so glad to hear the supervisor: places it as a high priority. i feel like i can trust her to do a good job content comes to dealing with mclaren park, but nobody lives there, and i feel quite comfortable with the fact mcpherson -- that supervisor c oen into a good job that f, but
7:18 pm
that would be putting the hard work of the window. there is a ploy, a lot of people who have come to see have not been told it would get rid of petrero hill. i thing you should be aware. >> >my name is steven hooper. any of the neighborhood in district 11 could claim they lived since the district. i would like to speak in support of one particular item, and that is it per to the border should be further south.
7:19 pm
i have learned a lot. the demographics, everything points to holloway as being the barrier between districts 7 and district 11. i would like to say i support what supervisor cohen says. it is a question of a community that extends well beyond into visitation valley that would be denied its sense of unity in order to accommodate other people across town who want to influence by manipulating the map, so that is my point. get holloway is of great barrier. it works.
7:20 pm
>> thank you. >> i was a member of the redistricting taskforce in 1995. if you should receive some packets, including revisions of six districts. also demographics on the percentage of filipinos in four districts. also russian hill, which shows the eastern and southern parts are heavily chinese and that the boundaries should be on jones and also vallejo. also satellite maps. you can see where the houses are, and where they are not. finally, i did not have time to staple these, but i have a
7:21 pm
comparison of all the maps. this is only up until the 16th of march, but you can see the population differences. but i did not bring the maps. if you are looking up 1% deviation, the average deviation is a point to 9% based on 2002 lines. that would be 64,000 people. if you brought it down to zero debt would be 73,000. you are only 2/3 of what you need to do.
7:22 pm
80's 39,000 variation until there provided. thank you very much. >> can i have this overhead and projector please? good evening. we unanimously decided to end bias of our decision by letter to reaga. we agree it should include the residential area. i believe you sought at the last meeting the ethnic and cultural
7:23 pm
division, there was no division. there was a strong division faja between ninth and 10 if you do it on the freeway. i speak to you to support the federally mandated charge you have this is part of the same community of interest as the rest. it does little or no interest which mr. tan region -- with district ten. it should not be split. the clinics and hospitals are an integral part. they draw their patient days from all areas, but the mission is the most overwhelmingly
7:24 pm
represented. i strongly urge you to keep this community together. i am pleased supervisor cohen has reiterated that it remain together in district 10. i am going to be handing these are round. good on the bottom is the population deviation. it is 73,000, which is exactly -- >> any additional speakers for public comment on this agenda item? we will take a 10-minute break

and return of 7:35.
