$528,000 above the 800 and some thousand that we received last year. we had two grants expire. we also have new additional grants coming in. we have just been selected, training for all of our sworn staff for the evidence based practices. san francisco probation was selected as one because of our national reputation. we're pretty proud of that. we have been able to reduce the general funds contribution to our budget by over a million dollars. in addition to that, we were able to take the services being provided for our probation population and are realigned population and public health was able to reduce their budget by almost a million dollars. i believe it was $995,000.

as a result of us being able to provide our dollars. not only have reduced our general fund budget, we have reduced all of the general fund budget of public health. in terms of the overall extent of the money, the increased realignment dollars, that is for our highest risk cases. what new supervisor to supervise those staff that will be -- what new supervisors to supervise the staff that will be out in the field. one new administrative analyst. we have so much money going out to contracts, we are proposing one new administrative analyst. temporary salaries that will allow us to grow education and victim service components, which we have note staff for to be able to do. realignment has changed our

world in terms of policies across the gamut. the temporary salaries are very critical for us to do the work that is going to take us two years. other non labor enhancement is case management expanding our compass. so that we can be able to address our case management. we have additional treatment services and housing, drug testing. supervisor chu: we can take a quick look at it. for the treatment services, is that a work order to dph? >> some of that money also goes to housing. what we have done, for those departments that provide a service, we allow them to

utilize their expertise and bring the services to us. supervisor chu: we are not having your department creates a whole new program. we are using existing program resources? >> services that do not exist anywhere. the overarching in terms of the partnerships we have the committee assessment and service center. that is our primary focus. we are contacting with a local provider and we also partner with service providers, and asian neighborhoods designs comet job training, emergency stabilization, mental health services, substance abuse case management, hamilton, that is a grant that we have received from the federal government that is over $1.1 million. a learning center to bring education services to our

client. we have also focused on training staff and motivational interviewing. that alone has the highest rate of recidivism reduction by 20% if staff interview and work with their clients. we have participated -- we are providing good judges information and the presentence investigation of pork. that is why the judges have more in -- more information. the implementation of the individual treatment and rehabilitation plan, we have been doing that since the june. the county jail reentry, bringing their inmates back earlier so we can do affected pre release planning so that when they are released, they have a plan. they can be more successful. the community corrections partnership executive committee, which i chair. they have approved the funding as proposed in the mayor's

budget. the plan will be officially coming to the board. i think it is important to note in light of what i am going to talk about in terms of the recommendations. the pilot project, evidence based training, we are moving to a computer-based training. we are thrilled we were one of 44 applicants to be selected. ok, moving nine. supervisor chu: is the department in agreement or not in agreement? >> we are still continuing work with the budget analyst office. we have -- i have significant concerns. they are around public safety. they are recommending to not fund high-risk positions. we are providing information, so hopefully, we can work it out. the vehicles associate with those staff, community assessment and service center, which is at the heart of our strategy.

we are trying to work with them to come to some agreement. supervisor chu: thank you. >> this was the money i went to the state and lobbied on behalf of the city, moving from $10 million to $70 million. these are critical components of what my department needs to implement it. supervisor chu: i know that you breezed through the presentation very quickly. i also know you did a lot of work to advocate at the state. we would not be as successful as we are now. i want to thank you for that. i know you will work with our budget analyst to see if we can come closer together to a number we can all agree with. i also want to note that you folks are going to be going before the public safety committee and will be providing a much more in-depth conversation around realignment and some of your efforts. i did not want you to think

[applause] for many of you, you get to know lieutenant riley. he was the police commission secretary he is recognized as he walks the streets. he has been asked to have a talent agent. we thought we would bring him back for one night for a command performance because it -- before he goes off into the sunset. yesterday, the chief and the commission it surprised him with a party. i want to tell him, i wanted thank you for your years of service i worked with you when i was a prosecutor. as a commissioner, you have kept us on the straight and narrow.

you are a calm and gentlemen, a man dedicated to the community. many do not know that you spend your time in the seminary. you have done great work. i appreciate your service. we had a plaque for you, but the chief gave it to you yesterday. on behalf of the commission, i really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your service. you are a good man and what a great career. thank you. i really appreciate your responsiveness. i hope that you have a wonderful retirement. you have given many years, and i thank you. >> i appreciate that. times like this, you think about all the stories you could tell. some you can and some you can not. there is one commission story i will tell. that was when one of your former staff members was your staff attorney and she was handling a rather large case. she was going off on maternity leave and we were putting the finishing touches on the next stage of the appeal. she said, you can call me. don't worry. i talked to were a few times. something came up one night and i dialed the phone and she answers. we are talking and there was all kind of commotion in the background. i said, did i call a bad time?

she said, we are getting ready to go to the hospital. the baby is coming. i said, i beg your pardon, i did call at a bad time. called america's cup. fleet weekend america's cup. -- fleet week and america's cup. we have the highest number of professional homeless, that i have ever seen. if we don't start clean this up now, we will have a problem. we are already expecting pickpockets. our shoplifters are already here. the highest number of shoplifters we have had a long time. we're having more break-ins. we had it under control and out it is out of control. when these numbers of people, and, if we did not have some things under control before these events happened, it is going to be a lot harder for the police department. i am just alerting you to these problems. i am asking your support in single we can do to start working on it now instead of the week before hand. this is going to be a big area
