struggle to maintain services, organizations, fair pay, and benefits. on top of that, we have a benefit to begin to address some of the tremendous unmet needs we have after years of recession. our highest services priority is to fund a full 3% cost of doing business increase. that is $9 million to help all of the nonprofits you have heard from today. it will secure some of the stability of the programs we have in place, which have been heard so steeply. this year, it is 3%. we need a 3% increase just to stay in the same place. that does not even make up for the past years. we ask that you keep that cost of doing business increase flexible. most members are doing -- are trying desperately to give raises.

they need to address health care, rent, workers' comp. second priority -- you have heard from many important organizations today the we hope you will be able to fund. shelters, job training, huckleberry youth program, violence against women -- you have heard numerous nonprofits all day that are hurting and need funding for important programs. we urge you to please work with the mayor to find the funds. child care is important, with state cuts. overall, back of the envelope, about $18 million. we hope you can find that. that is in line with past years. chairperson chu: thank you. are there other members of the public who wish to speak on this item or the budget overall? seeing none, public comment is closed. i want to thank all members of the public for attending.

thank you to the clerk, mr. young, and of course derek and andrea, the sheriff's department, the deputies, my aides, especially katie, who has been in here as long as we have, helping to shepherd the crowd, and has not eaten lunch yet. we want to thank them for our work making -- for their work making this process go as smoothly as it might go. and thank you to the budget office for sticking to public, and with us. we appreciate it. we have a couple of items to move. in terms of the items before us, one through three comprise the budget. do we have a motion to continue those items until monday? >> i believe it is just item one

and two. chairperson chu: treasure island, we can send that out. on items one and two, to continue those to our monday hearing. and we take that without objection? and on the balance of the items, items three all the way through 23 -- do we have a motion to send those to the full board to be heard on july 10? this is when we believe the budget will marry up with the rest of the items to be heard. >> i believe there are a few amendments we need to accept from yesterday. there are a few amendments that have been proposed. chairperson chu: i am sorry. yes. >> in addition, there are amendments from yesterday concerning the budget analyst recommendations. there are recommendations for the human services agency. chairperson chu: they do very

much. to the comptroller -- controller's office first. >> these are resolutions approving the plan, items 22 and 23. after we published our report and drafted the resolution is for your review, there were some very minor dollar changes incorporating, on pages two of each of the two resolutions, and i can read those into the record and provide those to the clerk on your behalf. for the resolution approving the school district expenditure plan, on page two, line two, the amendment would be to amend the dollar amount, $37.50 million,

to $37.56 million. and then to amend, online two, the $2.07 million to $2.13 million. to approve the plans for the first five commission, again on page two, line two, the dollar amount $18.98 million should read instead $20.53 million. online 3, just beyond the words "unspent funds," to include $0.11 million in interest, and $1.44 million from the reserve funds. that will then enable the resolution to contain all

there are at least 18 farmers markets in san francisco alone, providing fresh and affordable to year-round. this is a great resource that does not break the bank. to show just how easy it can be to do just that, we have come up with something called the farmers' market challenge. we find someone who loves to cook, give them $20, and challenge them to create a delicious meal from ingredients found right here in the farmer's market. who did we find for today's challenge? >> today with regard to made a pot greater thanchapino. >> you only have $20 to spend.

>> i know peter it is going to be tough, but i think i can do it. it is a san francisco classic. we are celebrating bay area food. we have nice beautiful plum tomatoes here. we have some beautiful fresh fish here. it will come together beautifully. >> many to cut out all this talk, and let's go shop. yeah. ♪ >> what makes your dish unique? >> i like it spicy and smoky. i will take fresh italian tomatoes and the fresh seafood, and will bring them to other with some nice spoked paprika and some nice smoked jalapeno peppers. i am going to stew them up and get a nice savory, smoky, fishy, tomatoy, spicy broth.

>> bring it on. how are you feeling? >> i feel good. i spent the $20 and have a few pennies less. i am going to go home and cook. i will text message u.n. is done. >> excellent and really looking forward to it. >> today we're going to make the san francisco classic dish invented by italian and portuguese fishermen. it'll be like a nice spaghetti sauce. then we will put in the fish soup. the last thing is the dungeon as crab, let it all blend together. it will be delicious. when i could, i will try to make healthy meals with fresh ingredients, whatever is in season and local. those juicy, fresh tomatoes will take about an hour to cook down into a nice sauce. this is a good time to make our fish stock. we will take a step that seems like trash and boil it up in water and make a delicious and

they speed up my parents were great clerics, and we had wonderful food. family dinners are very important. any chance you can sit down together and have a meal together, it is great communal atmosphere. one of the things i like the most is the opportunity to be creative. hello. anybody with sets their mind to it can cut. always nice to start chopping some vegetables and x and the delicious. all this double in view is this broth with great flavor. but your heart into it. make something that you, family, and friends will really enjoy. >> i am here with a manager at the heart of the city farmer's market in san francisco. thank you for joining us. tell us a little bit about the organization. >> we're 30 years old now. we started with 14 farmers, and it has grown out to over 80. >> what is the mission of the organization? >> this area has no grocery

from the comfort of their home or workplace. next bus uses satellite technology and advanced computer modeling to track buses and trains, estimating are bought stocks with a high degree of accuracy. the bus and train our arrival information can be accessed from your computer and even on your cellular phone or personal digital assistant. knowing their arrival time of the bus allows riders the choice of waiting for it or perhaps doing some shopping locally or getting a cup of coffee. it also gives a greater sense that they can count on you to get to their destination on time. the next bus our arrival information is also transmitted to bus shelters around the city equipped with the next bus sign. riders are updated strictly about arrival times. to make this information available, muni has tested push to talk buttons at trial shelters.

>> i love teaching. it is such an exhilarating experience when people began to feel their own creativity. >> this really is a place where all people can come and take a class and fill part of the community. this is very enriching as an artist. a lot of folks take these classes and take their digital imagery and turn it into negatives. >> there are not many black and white darkrooms available anymore. that is a really big draw. >> this is a signature piece. this is the bill largest darkroom in the u.s.. >> there are a lot of people that want to get into that dark room. >> i think it is the heart of this place.

you feel it when you come in. >> the people who just started taking pictures, so this is really an intersection for many generations of photographers and this is a great place to learn because if you need people from different areas and also everyone who works here is working in photography. >> we get to build the community here.

this is different. first of all, this is a great location. it is in a less-populated area. >> of lot of people come here just so that they can participate in this program. it is a great opportunity for people who have a little bit of photographic experience. the people have a lot, they can really come together and share a love and a passion. >> we offer everything from traditional black and white darkrooms to learning how to process your first roll of film. we offer classes and workshops in digital camera, digital printing. we offer classes basically in the shooting, ton the town at night, treasure island.

there is a way for the programs exploring everyone who would like to spend the day on this program. >> hello, my name is jennifer. >> my name is simone. we are going on a field trip to take pictures up the hill. >> c'mon, c'mon, c'mon. >> actually, i have been here a lot. i have never looked closely enough to see everything. now, i get to take pictures. >> we want to try to get them to be more creative with it. we let them to be free with them but at the same time, we give them a little bit of

direction. >> you can focus in here. >> that was cool. >> if you see that? >> behind the city, behind the houses, behind those hills. the see any more hills? >> these kids are wonderful. they get to explore, they get to see different things. >> we let them explore a little bit. they get their best. if their parents ever ask, we can learn -- they can say that they learned about the depth of field or the rule of thirds or that the shadows can give a good contrast. some of the things they come up

with are fantastic. that is what we're trying to encourage. these kids can bring up the creativity and also the love for photography. >> a lot of people come into my classes and they don't feel like they really are creative and through the process of working and showing them and giving them some tips and ideas. >> this is kind of the best kept secret. you should come on and take a class. we have orientations on most saturdays. this is a really wonderful location and is the real jewel to the community. >> ready to develop your photography skills? the harvey milk photo center focuses on adult classes. and saturday workshops expose
