i put this diagram in here because of this concern about public safety control. we did secure the sidewalk. the court did have securities that. this was before we were able to open it to the public. there were staffed and traffic control issues the whole time. when we review the plot -- project and discuss our plans with at the end of the contractor, we thought we would have to beed and the contractor -- ed and the contractor, we proceeded with this plan in place, with the construction permit their for the removal. to restore the public's safety. these diagrams, these pictures illustrate the demolition you

the contractor in the insurance company on the 26. last week, last tuesday, there was another one scheduled for tuesday. there is a team meeting every week to get everyone plugged into the progress we're making. the contractors working through that last friday, trying to get that done so that we could get a demolition contractor who worked on the stabilization for him to get that work done. and all of the power that was served came through.

this equipment, as you can see in the upper left-hand corner, the assessment of that equipment is going on now. there has already been a preliminary review. work is going on to offer temporary power of what those needs should be. this diagram shows you the temporary emergency generators operating with diesel fuel. there are five generators located a round of the wharf area. they go from 29 through 227. they serve different operations there. including some sewage injection pumps at 31.

>> this diagram shows the part that was removed, this was completed, this part was added last friday. this photograph shows you how much of the roof is built on. like i said, there was scaffolding put into a lot of that construction. looking at what will be done with this stabilization that has removed the stock fell and architectural features. and the upper right hand corner,

we thought we would take that thing down. we thought it would be done by that first weekend but as things went along, we decided to protect that and embraced that structure so that we could restore things around it. that diagram illustrates what we actually ended up with, final demolition. i know structural removal. this is what we are going to lead to the public. as we have the repair and restoration documents done. we are evaluating the cost of temporary power, trying to get them to bring in permanent

temporary power, rather than running the diesel generators. we are trying to get that facility up and yelling. building stabilization, we are completing the plans. that is part of the stabilization process. we're looking at remediation on the shed. hopefully that can be done in several months. restoring this is a long-term project. it will not be finished in 2012, i am fairly certain about that.

nancy will come out to talk about 2012 issues. >> mine starts with the one under the flag of historic building preservation. the company was also out on site the day after the fire. our initial focus has been to consult upon demolition and salvage activities. this has changed. this has been an ongoing process, as you can see from the photos, left. things change, from week to week and day to day. it is important that we are out there assessing what is going on. i was out there last thursday. it was the last fragment of the ventilated cornice on the building. it had to come down because it
6:10 am
was no longer stable. then the contractors were able to save a piece that we had as a record to a desk in accurately restoring that element of the building. we have been salvaging the protection activities, which have primarily involve the windows and elements of the fragments i just showed you. some of the windows have been salvaged and placed in a protected area in the shed. the remaining windows will be protected in place. that will make sure that the building as well but and up and provide protection to the remaining fashion frames.

" i'm currently, -- hopefully to some of the glass still intact. currently we are determining the criteria needed, and we will be working with the port to determine which ones of the most appropriate for the building. we will also be reviewing historic documents, such as drawings and photos. we are very lucky that the port has very good drawing documentation of this building. that is an interesting photographs. it shows end of the met -- locomotive from the belt line railway in front of pier 29.

the america's cup authority is the tenant coming in. they were not on the premises, not on it for fire, and we were very fortunate to have turner on the premises. they were responsive as best they could. i want to emphasize that response was a citywide event to the fire department, the men in women of that department, it was extraordinarily hot. the only thing of excitement apparently happening in the city, because everyone turned out to watch it for hours.
6:14 am
they kept the firefighters able to focus on of what they were doing. they made the decision to protect the shed and the adjoining peers. they really did an amazing job of containing the fire, which was hard to see from the street. we had a number of reporters that went into the building to follow the fire. there was some very good footage. the san francisco mta had their officers and it was amazing to me how many commuters did not know that the fire was under way. it was long after the fire had started. the control officers or absolutely terrific.
6:15 am
particularly for the electrical shop, who stayed for part of the night, tried to get it to start early in the morning. they helped to make sure the public was turner construction. i also want to recognize members of the community. we have so many phone calls and offers for help. this was the first time i had seen such amazing community outreach so close to the event. i was very pleased by that. the department of public works has been terrific in helping us to resolve the end -- electrical

problems. i also want to mention that there was an item before the board of supervisors today, an ordinance to retroactively approved the emergency situation and our ability to enter into those contracts with consultants. i wanted to thank the board for their support. they all helped out with questionnaires and were engaged and involved. i was there at 11:00 to watch the robot. there was a huge crowd. the technology involved to make sure everyone was safe was terrific. the cruise terminal project is not only on schedule, but the last piece will be placed by next tuesday.
6:17 am
we are very, very pleased by the responsiveness of all parties involved and the ability to, hopefully, preserve that part of our history and future. blacks do we know the cause of the fire? >> the fire department is investigating and is expected to have a report out in about three weeks. it should be out any time. whites two short questions. those are diesel generators? are those relatively new? my understanding with different generators is that some have more emissions than others. wondering what standards hours are up to. >> i looked at three of them yesterday. they all looked brand new.
6:18 am
like i told you, we are looking at changing from those five operating generators to maybe two. i think that that but it changed in the not too distant future, whenever the current operation is. with respect to some of the work being done, are there any current codes that might impact, foley, the registration? allowing it to be completely replicated? >> that is an excellent question. there are two separate answers. we will be following the secretary of the interior for the treatment of historic
6:19 am
properties, making sure it gets restored to the standards of national preservation. at the same time, we will need to follow the current codes, allowing for certain modifications to the historic resources and preservation of the building. >> that is a process we are in the glove right now. >> thank you. what is there any public comment? -- >> is there any public comment? >> ok, thank you. i want to thank all of the city family for their incredible response, as well as support staff for staying on top of this.

on status of port infrastructure work, a tenant relocations port and other obligations under the lease disposition agreement in preparation pour the 34th america's cup event in 2012 and 2014 -- 2013. >> apologies to everyone who is not on this side of the room. i misunderstood the nature of the technical bit -- technical difficulties. we are very low tech. i am sure that there would have been spectacular graphics. the last updated you heard was six weeks ago. at the top of the list was changes in the movement on the
6:23 am
disposition agreement. at the time of the last update, there was a variety of opinions. the 20th moved towards the optimistic end of the spectrum, with both parties expressing a desire to get it executed by july 20. i should say that i am joined by my colleagues, many of whom contributed to what is in front of you. i will start with highlights for the overall project and then get into a little bit more detail from each of the venues that will be used on august 21 for the first event. so, back to the high level update. as the executive director mentioned, the cruise terminal is nearly complete. there will be a party next tuesday.
6:24 am
in the interim, the fire took place. you have just heard the detailed report on that, so i will say no more. one way that this update is different from the last is that it contained a detailed list of repairs that staff are making two different facilities. as staff put together this list, they prioritize those items that would address deficiencies, as well as the improvements that would have a lasting benefit to the port. lastly, the permitting environment for the overall project, as of right now, there are no major permitting obstacles. so, the three facilities that will be used by the america's cup staff are 23, 32, and 80.
6:25 am
23, a tenant relocation, that was just completed this week. also, as of this morning, the america's cup management had intended to but the center in part at the back part appear 23 and they have decided to stage most of the event there. the part that will be utilized is the front building, for office purposes. the repairs there, the electrical work, that has been a collaborative effort that will be complete prior to the 20th. installation of the security fence has been completed. further electrical improvements for fire purposes that are underway.
6:26 am
30, 32, the infrastructure work continued to benefit from a reduced scope as he asked a couple of items they're the key one, that this project is on target in terms of budget and schedule. good news, we expect containers to start showing up at that location on august 6. lastly ,pier 8, a similar situation to peer -- pier 23. electrical improvements, that work is under way as well. one thing that i forgot to note here was dry dock, which has moved since the last update. it is now over at the pier 50
6:27 am
maintenance shed. so, that is all i've got. i will refer to the staff here to contribute anything else to the report. >> is there any public comment? >> commissioners, everything is going according to plan. >> you think so? >> i agree with that. >> item 9b, request approval -- informational presentation honda orton development inc.'s proposal for the lease and rehabilitation of the 20th street historic buildings within the 69 acrepier 70 site. >> i am here to introduce the
6:28 am
team and the presentation, but i wanted to briefly sat where we are within the fort built -- foothold. there was a master planning process that, in 2010, directed us to move forward. move forward on three initiatives. when was to bring a master developer for the waterfront site which was his attention the development, lots of infrastructure, and a long-term planning development and real entitlement process. the second was to look for redevelopment partner for the historic building. on february 28 of this year, this commission awarded that opportunity to orton development team, and they are here to update you on their recommendations, their findings, and uses they recommend. in the plan we recommended it were top priority buildings, we wanted them kept and saved. now we are coming forward with
6:29 am
what the private sector sees as vital uses, how we can move forward. this will also initiate a process of public comment. are these the right uses, activities? a way to remind in this part of pier 70. the third initiative is the crane cove park initiative. you had an update on that in the june meeting. we will be learning more. we hope in 2014 to be running a new park. we will have this building up and running and will be well on our way to bring up the rest of the site. so with that, i want to introduce eddie orton and his team. >>
