the proposed permitted venue entertainment license at -- i'm -- in a few months, going to be expanding my own personal business to 20th and mission. and currently, in my business, have the opportunity -- or the necessity to meet with professional business type people, due to the nature of my business. i'm a paralegal for a law firm. and this particular location is going to be ideal for meeting with, and socializing in a safe and vibrant context, with the combination of music and good culturacultural cuisine. i believe it will also increase

the vibrancy and the safety of -- that's consistent with what we're trying to achieve at 20th and va val en valencia. it's been around for generations. since 1951 the grandparents and parent of the now kids are hopefully, with your approval today, going to provide them with the opportunity to maintain a safe gathering place of latin culture and mexican culture and provide the mariachi music that's so accustom and consistent with their business model and formula. i believe that it's very difficult to find a whole lot of places, at least in the past, not so much in hisly i in necese present and hopefully in the

i'm here today to pledge my support for the restaurant and the baros family. i am very familiar with the restaurant as it was one of the first restaurants i ever went to when i first moved to the city about 25 years ago. i found it to be a lively place. the food was great. and the band played a very integral part in making it such a fun atmosphere. i met the owners, and in discussions about their business i find them to be serious and determined business people, with great sensitivity and compassion for the neighborhood and for the city of san francisco. if given the privilege of an entertainment permit, i know the baros family will work diligently to follow the terms of the permit. i respectfully request that you grant the entertainment permit for the restaurant. thank you. >> president fong: any additional public comment? seeing none, commissioner gordon. >> i am thrilled this restaurant is reopening. i was a person who went very

often and i loved the festive atmosphere, the music. it was always such a fun place. nowadays it's super-unique along valencia because it had a record of having a lot of mexican-american restaurants, doesn't have very many left anymore. while everybody things of what goes on at mission street val epsia used to be the same way and this is the last few places that exist and it's exciting that it's reopen and it's exciting that it plays mar ach-i music. on a regular basis, it's very rare to find. i also live in walking distance of this restaurant and for a long time, when it had been shut down, was wondering what was happening and was excited when i started to see work being performed on the space. i think it will add a lot to that block and bring back a part of the cultural history of

we started our first location and then from there we expanded locations. >> why do think food trucks have grown? >> i have gotten popular because the high cost of starting a brick and mortar or strong, the rise of social media, trucks can be easily located, and food trucks to offer a unique outdoor experience that is not easily replaced by any of their setting any worlwhere else in san franc. san francisco eaters are interested in cuisine. there adventuress. the fact theyuse grea use great ingredients and make gourmet food makes unpopular.

it is as good as anything you will find out why mca. parents come from all over. >> there are not too many pools that are still around, and this is one-stop shopping for kids. you can bring your kid here and have a cool summer. >> if you want to see some of the youth and young men throughout san francisco play some great pickup games, come wednesday night for midnight basketball. on saturdays, we have a senior lyons dance that has a great time getting exercise and a movement. we have all the music going, the generally have a good time. whether it is awkward camp or junior guard.

>> this is the lower grip and the upper grip. this is a reel and a fly line. we are going to use the flex of this rod to fling away. exactly as you moved your hands. >> that's it? >> that's it. >> i'm a natural. >> push both arms forward and snap the lower hand into your tummy. push forward. >> i did gave it a try and had great time but i might need some more practice. i met someone else with real fly casting skills. her name is donna and she is an international fly casting champion. >> i have competed in the casting ponds in golden gate park in san francisco. i have been to japan and norway for fly casting competition. i spend my weekends here at the club and at the casting pond.

it's a great place to learn and have fun. on a season day like this, it was the perfect spot to be. i find fly casting very relaxing and also at the same time very challenging sport. takes me out into the nature. almost like drawing art in the air. and then i can make these beautiful loops out there. >> even though people from across the globe come here to compete, it's still a place where locals in the know relax and enjoy some rely unique scenery. until next time, get out and play!

that is better. when i start thinking, i see it actually -- sometimes, i do not see it, but when i do, it is usually from the inside out. it is like watching something being spawned. you go in, and you begin to work, excavate, play with the dancers, and then things began to emerge. you may have a plan that this is what i want to create. here are the ideas i want to play with, but then, you go into the room, and there maybe some fertile ideas that are becoming manifest that are more interesting than the idea you had initially set out to plan. so there has to be this openness for spontaneity. also, a sense that regardless of the deadline, that you have tons of time so the you can keep your creativity alive and not cut it

off and just go into old habits. it is a lot like listening. really listening to watch what is going to emerge. i like this thing where you put your foot on his back. let's keep it. were your mind is is how you build your life. if you put it in steel or in failure, it works. that works. it is a commitment. for most artists, it is a vacation and a life that they have committed themselves to. there is this notion that artists continue to do their work because of some kind of the external financial support. if that was taken away, artists would still do their art. it is not like there is a prerequisite for these things to

happen or i will not do it. how could that be? it is the relationship that you have committed to. it is the vocation. no matter how difficult it gets, you are going to need to produce your art. whether it is a large scale or very small scale. the need to create is going to happen, and you are going to have to fulfill it because that is your life. >> i have been a cable car grip for 21 years. i am a third generation.

people are coming down knobbhill. the cable car picks people up. takes them to work. >> there still is no other device to conquer these hills better than a cable car. nobody wanted to live up here because you had to climb up here. with the invention of the cable car, these hills became accessible. he watched horses be dragged to death. cable cars were invent in san francisco to solve the problem with it's unique, vertically challenged terrain. we are still using cars a century old
