probably forget someone. they are fueling the economy, we want to draft off that. that makes this interesting. we added a hash tag to the name. no one's done that. we want the bay area -- i guess there are 8 million, maybe more or maybe less, we want them all to participate. by this logo it says come on, let's show the nfl we are in this together that. is pretty much it. [applause] >> short and sweet. thank you, rich silverstein. listen, the ceo of the 9ers is here. obviously this is not happening if the 9ers are not building a state-of-the-art, brand-new facility. we are excited to see it. it is going up fast. will it be ready in time for super bowl 50. we hope we have the honor

of hosting it. mr. york. [applause] >> it is a pleasure to be here and bid for super bowl 50. the last time there was a super bowl in northern california i wasn't quite 4 years old. you have super bowl in palo alto at stanford stadium that the 49ers happen to plan and happen to win. it would be nice to recreate that type of feeling where you bring the entire bay area together. not just for a game but potentially a super bowl parade on market street afterwards, that be nice? we have worked hard for a very long time to build a state-of-the-art stadium. that is not something easy to do. when you look at what this stadium will represent, will it represent the bay area, all of northern california from the sft

ware driven stadium that the smart stadium we will where you will have ticket lists, cash lists, great food options that are local organic options. you will have great infrastructure, you will have all the things that make a super bowl an unbelievable experience. i'm happy to see a football team bring a region together for the largest day in sports. more people for one single event will be watching this than just about anything in the world. i'm happy to go to work with the other owners, lobby the other nfl owners to make sure they see how great the bay area can be. it will be an unbelievable time, unbelievable event. we need everybody to make it work. so i will turn it over to daniel, because he's got a lot of work to do.

i called supervisor mark ferrell before the news came. i know he's been working hard on this. i asked if he would be willing to be our point person for the board of supervisors. he is excited and i'm happy to be working on this. >> thanks, daniel. to mayor lee as well. board president david chu, jed, mr. silverstein. thank you. how lucky are we? over the past few weeks we have seen america's cup, fleet week, giants home games, 49ers and countless other festivals. as we sit here a few hours from another great day of

san francisco sports, with the 9ers hosting the seahawks, going to beat them. hosting the cardinals in st. louis and winning game four. today we can celebrate the bid for the next super bowl in san francisco and bay area. as has been mentioned the super bowl is a world class event and deserves a world class city and world class region to host it. as a kid who grew up here in san francisco and in the fall to trek every sunday to candlestick park to watch the 49ers play, now this is such an exciting time that we get to have the chance to host the event that we only got to watch on tv for the past few decades. what an incredible time for our city. even if the super bowl's played down the road in santa clara, for us, these are the san francisco 49ers. always have been, always will be. san francisco 49er fan also be so excited and come together as a region and

city behind this. it will have enormous impacts, bringing the neighborhoods together from sunset to bay view. think about the thousands of jobs. hundreds of millions of economic activity for our city. more importantly the opportunity to display san francisco on the world stage. when we had america's cup a few weeks ago, and nbc broadcast the bay and events live on sunday, we couldn't ask for better pr event anywhere than what we achieved that sunday. now we get to do it on the world stage to host the biggest sporting event in the world. what an opportunity we have. this is an exciting time for our city. i don't think we can or won't rest on our laurels or take anything for granted. as mentioned, we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. i know the big committee and those of us in city hall will work tirelessly to make sure our region and city put our best foot

forward and once again give san francisco the chance to shine on the national and inter national spotlight. i look forward to playing a leadership role in that. thank you very much. [applause] >> i want to give supervisor chu and president of board of supervisors to come up here as well. we look forward to working with supervisor ferrell and yourself as we move forward toward the may bid. if you would like to say a few words. good morning, i'm excited you decided to do this announcement in the heard of my district, in district three. thank you for that. san francisco, one of the reasons i'm so proud to be an elected official is we are a becon when it comes to or shared values, marriage equality, environment. we are a becon to the rest of the world when it comes

to our sports. i was proud a couple years ago to carry the legislation around america's cup bid to work with mayor lee to work with the warriors. i'm particularly pleased to work with supervisor ferrell and 49ers organization to make sure we win this bid. in my first couple weeks i put in a call to a young man named jed york. along with colleagues who were new in 2009 we asked you to consider sticking around in the city. while we may someday curse you for stop take our blessed team out of the city, we love the fact we are working together on this bid. we love that our 49er also continue to play great football down the street. we love the fact we still have hometown pride in the best football team in the franchise. thank you. looking forward to getting this done. [applause]

>> i want to reiterate two points and open up to questions, if you have them for the folks up here. this will be the most shared super bowl super bowl bid ever. that is the key, hash tag super bowl and help us bring the bowl to the bay. we are doing well. keep talking, okay. i also want to say that when mayor lee asked me to do this, i told him this needed to be the most philanthropic, environmentally friendly and most sustainable ever. that is why i agreed to do this. my work is tipping point community. it is incredibly important to me and to my board and something i ran by them. we said this was an opportunity to highlight

the needs in our community, 1.3 million people are too poor to meet basic needs in this region, we think we can highlight the needs in this community through this effort and make this a community wide event and not just for the few but for our entire region and our entire community. so it is important to me that that is a huge part of this effort. we will take questions, if you all have any in the back there. supervisor chu alluded to it, there was bad blood, a fight over where the stadium would be. all that by-gones, axe is buried, everybody loves each other and work together without tension or anything? >> i look forward to working together with everybody up here. i look forward to working with mayor mattiace yous, mayor reed. i think this is an

opportunity for the region to come together. what happened in the past is the past. we have an unbelievable opportunity to all come together, to bring the bowl to the bay and bring super bowl 50 to the bay area. i don't think anything should get in that way. i don't think anybody up here will let that happen. >> what happened in the past we all agreed. we were all shocked and didn't want it to happen and did our best to do it. but then it is fact. the stadium is going up in santa clara. we accept and acknowledge that. the next question is what do we do about it? we are not -- i'm not -- i'm not one to sit and mope about something we lost. now we build on what can we do. i think this is one of those ideas that in those days where we were asking where is our legacy with the 9ers, this was one of

those very concrete ideas that jed and i talked about as moving forward with everybody and making sure we take the lead but sure it and gain mum more than one can expect that. is why we are having the incredible team. i think we are past it. we have an opportunity to build on that relationship, even more creatively than before. i think this is one of those great ideas. will it be an effort in and of itself. we are not lost on ther ideas, the continued legacy. this is is the 49ers. we want to celebrate and build it bigger. we will build on the success and penetrate the things we have wanted to do with great, great events that cause all of us to be inspired well beyond the

sport itself. to go back on tuesday, the nfl announced san francisco will be bidding against miami for super bowl 50. the runner up will be placed into the bid for super bowl 51. we are hopeful we will win 50. if we are the runner up we would be put against houston for 51. that is how it will work. we look forward to the challenge. >> one other question, may be premature. with the out-of-towners, have you thought about how, if everything is based in san francisco, how the people will get down to santa clara? how that will work? >> we have talked about it and look forward to using the great public

transportation. caltrans, great buss that are every morning picking up san franciscans, taking them down to silicon valley. we feel confident and confident we can make that happen in working with sf travel and the other visitor's bureaus down in the peninsula and south bay. we feel confident we can make that happen. >> i would say you see all the seismic retrofitting with the bay bridges, that is another reason why. >> everyone is from san francisco. the tag line was like go sf super bowl. the game will be in santa clara. what exactly is san francisco's involvement. are there events held here? >> yes, a great question. the super bowl 50 will be an iconic game. we expect a week up to the

game, the tailgating will be in the parking lot of santa clara. many of the events will happen in san francisco. we believe every hotel from san jose to san francisco will be full. we believe this game benefits napa, caramel and more but san francisco will be the focal point of events leading up to the sunday game. >> ron conway, one of our committee members. >> our competition is miami. the statement is over an hour away. it is the same situation. >> i think the -- >> past super bowls have

taken place where you have to travel to the stadium so we feel we are okay in that regard. that is a great point. someone. >> joe want to speak to the travel or issues? >> joe dalton with san francisco travel. the region can accommodate this. we are making sure it is a regional benefit. the businesss in san francisco will benefit and we will see job creation and tax generation but also we will see it down the peninsula and throughout the region, as daniel said. we can accommodate it, we have accommodated events before. the super bowl last time was in stanford away and san francisco was the host and regional event. we are looking forward to it and the benefit this region will get from hosting the super bowl. >> the nfl will have the super bowl at meadowlands, outside new york -- how far

santa clara is. could be the first snowy super bowl. is there any concern about the nfl, the fact in february we could have horrible rain or beautiful sunshine about the weather? >> i have looked ahead. it is supposed to be sunny that day. we are excited to put that in the bid package. my mom reminds me my birthday is february 4th, all grown up. we had all of my parties in the glorious sun so i think we are in good shape. we meet the nfl requirements of temperature. we are above that, so we are in great shape on that front. >> so be it. whatever. >> i don't think it is going to rain. >> any questions? >> we can have two weeks leading up to the event. what sort of things will be

part of the overall. >> i have been told by the nfl the past super bowls -- jed can speak to this as well, there's over 200 events and parties, opportunities for us to highlight the best of this region. we don't have the details, looking at february 2016 if we are fortunate enough to win this bid. but there is a lot of different events that go on. every restaurant will be full. all hotel also be full. event spaces will be full from san jose to santa clara, san francisco and i have started talking to people in napa and sonoma. they are excited to be as well. we said earlier super bowl 50 is very special. the nfl has been playing

games in other countries for the sport. san francisco is an inter national city so we will probably have additional events that no one's thought of in terms of not only celebrating the 50ses but emphasizing inter national perspective on the sport of football. that is a key strength. like any franchise, they are looking for more market gain, this is where it will happen. >> we are going to ask rich to come up. if this group could stay and answer questions. but rich has a special way to throw this out. once again thank you to goodby silverstein for everything. >> i like that. my birthday it rained every day. snowed. what is football without -- >> wet weather for me.

♪ >> so again good morning everyone. i am ed risk. i am the transportation director in the great city of san francisco and it's my great pleasure and delight to welcome you today to a great celebration. what we're celebrating here is the partnership that many of you that are with us today that have gotten to this point. we are celebrating the fact that we have gotten to this point and the investments that will central sup way will bring to san francisco and what it means for this city and this region. i can't tell you what an honor and privilege it is to serves as the transportation director in this great city. we ordered

san francisco weather to deep the dust down and we are in a construction site and it's a great time for transportation across the nation largely because of some of the folks you will hear who are to my left and your right. it is also a great time to be in san francisco because we have leadership here in the city that are encouraging innovation, that recognize the importance of investment and infrastructure, and there is no better manifestation of that than this project and that prt is man manifested in a way that i can see no more strongly in our great mayor who have been been a public works director, a city administrator, and helped build the city's plan he really gets this stuff. he is really engaged in this stuff. i don't think a week has come gone by

that he hasn't asked me when this day is coming and it's a pleasure to introduce our mayor ed lee. >> thank you for your wonderful leadership. over 20-25 years ago when we were struggling with the earthquake, when people in chinatown said "gosh we're really going to suffer, and if we're going to be participating in our great economy in san francisco we have to find a way for better transportation routes to transfer people up north and down south of the city, and when we call ourselves a city as a transit first city there is no better example than that than what is reflected in the plans for the central subway. this project is a vital enhancement of our public transportation system. it's going to

significantly improve the movement of tens of thousands of franciscans and if you were here this past weekend when people were predicting it would be jam san francisco instead of san francisco you knew that folks were educated because of the great leadership at our mta, our county transportation, all of our transit systems and were at the highest level of educating the visitors and others to use public transportation. it will work for all of us and as we build the housing units we identified in hunter's point and treasure island and welcome more people to our great city and we are growing as a result. we are going to have the greatest subway system that can connect to our bart, to our caltrans, to up and down our muni lines. this central subway will be a great success. it will connect

to some of the most densely populated and rapidly developing areas, and it will improve access to all of our vibrant communities, and really is investments like this that will foster loyalty among all of our public transit customers while we reduce carbon emissions, make our city cleaner and cleaner. i'm not the only one that thinks this way. you know i'm among many, many friends today in the audience, on stage and i would like to invite at this time someone who has made it a practice to visit our city regularly, to make sure this project was being planned well, that the initial funds that were granted to us by president obama and with the great work of our congressional delegates and

speaker pelosi and senator feinstein we would make sure to use it in the right way and creating the jobs and the investment that people wanted to see. u.s. transportation secretary ray lahood. please share this announcement. >> hello san francisco. i am delighted to be here to celebrate with all of you three very important champions for this project. senator feinstein who doesn't often call me, but when she does i pay attention, and four years ago when i went to see her about a number of issues this project was number one on her list. we need to get it done. we need to get a full funding grant agreement. she has been a champion for this project from the beginning

going back -- i am sure she will tell you, i don't know how far. speaker pelosi, a champion for this project. [applause] speaker pelosi doesn't call me very often, but when she does it's always important. four years ago when i took this job i went to see the speaker. this was number one on her list. how do we get this project done? jackie spear a strong advocate for this project. you have three great champions, and i will also tell you that in working with senator boxer on the transportation bill this project was always at the top of her list. [applause] so i am delighted to be here. i don't know of another place i

would rather be, and i know that all of you are so thrilled with the opportunity that this will create. every one of you sitting out there deserves credit. you've all played a role in this in some way or another. this is not about you. it's about the people. it's also about the next generation of transportation for the next generation for san francisco. that's what this is about. this is your vision. it's a clear vision, and so i am delighted, and very proud to announce today $942 million to the san francisco -- [applause] for the san francisco mta to extend the central subway light

rail system from the downtown business district to chinatown. thousands of people will be enabled with good transportation as a result of this project. now, i have a long speech here but i'm going to stop because i know every one of these other people has more important things to say. thank you to the champions. congress women spears, speaker pelosi, senator feinstein and senator boxer you will well served in washington d c and the people will be well served by this project. thank you san francisco. >> secretary lahood. thank you very much for that wonderful news. >> [inaudible] >> it's a really truly a great day for san francisco. great cities need great public transportation systems, and you
