trained counselors and should not present themselves as such. they are not counseling they are harassing and if there is a fear from them that 25 feet will make them yell than what happens it should be 100 feet or whatever so we can't hear their harassment. thank you for putting this on the agenda. thank you. >> the next speaker. >> yes, hello, my name is katherine porter and i am an attorney and i stood here 20 years ago when the individual bubble ordinance was passed not only as a representative of a local organization, but also a representative of an organization that was a sponsor of the bill and worked with the supervisor then in crafting the language, we our intention was to draft the language as narrowly as possible. trying to not bump up against the first amendment. but still, wanting to make the law as effective and enforcable as possible. clearly, we were successful at the narrow issue, but, not so

this hearing. on both sides of this issue. you know, for me, it has been sort of a very, very interesting experience to go through this process for the last year and a half. and i grew up catholic, so i am mindful of why certain people, you know, have certain views on this. and i certainly consider myself prolife. but i believe that being prolife does not mean that you don't respect the right of women to decide for themselves what to do with their body. and that is what this is about. that you can still be for choice, and being for choice does not mean that you are in any way, you know, against the dignity in the protection of human life. but, we are talking about here is that the fundamental right for women to decide for themselves whether to have an abortion but to access healthcare and i was very moved in particular by the very personal comments of women,

sharing their own experiences and their own personal histories, with planned parenthood. it is very moving to me, and i think that it is, i really appreciate the fact that people and these women are willing to share that with us. >> and you know, i hear, some of these anti-choice activists and i respect the right to express themselves and talk about how we should support women. well, i want to make a couple of observations. what is really striking to me about what we have seen is that, the very people who are saying that it is a simple, you know, peaceful protest, that there is really nothing harassing going on, are not afraid to point out that when, and ladies and gentlemen, who gave a copy of this picture, you know, who describe someone taking a picture of the protestors of the 40 days for life folks, as harassment and intimidation, i think that those were the words that he

used. and yet, there is no out rage over the fact that for the last year and a half, there has been video taping of every women and every individual who goes into this clinic including the workers. where is the out rage and it is really interesting to see that that was standard. that the very people who are not afraid to intimidate and harass are the first ones to say my rights are being violated. well it does not work that way. you cannot talk about protecting your own rights if you are willing to infringe upon the rights of other people. and something else that really bothers me to be honest is someone who represents a very diverse district where we have, you know, certainly some wealthy folks and we also have many, poor, working class, middle class women. is that when you see the protests that you see, the anti-choice, protests, they are not happening on in the wealthy

parts of the city, where wealthy women are accessing healthcare. they are targeting neighborhoods where you have low income women, working class women, middle class women that may not have the resources to access these services. and that is where they are focusing their protests. and i think that is wrong. i think that it is wrong because i think that what they are doing is going after the most vulnerable. the people that need that assistance, that need access to healthcare. and you know, i have no problem, people standing out information and you know they have a right to provide these pamphlets but if you look at the content of these pamphlets i respectfully submit that i don't see that many of the points that they make here are grounded on scientific evidence. you know, i think that there is a lot in this information and a

lot of tactics about the dangers of abortion and they have the right to provide that information but they don't have the right to intimidate women and so that is what this is about and so i want to thank all of you who came out and all of the different organizations, narol, of course, i want to thank, credo is amazing to see a company, of san francisco based company in every sense of the word to see what they are doing that the woman's political committee and the health clinic and so many that have come out. but more importantly, i want to thank planned parenthood for what they do on a daily basis. and i was very moved to hear that the last comment from the husband whose wife works at planned parenthood. you know, i am amazed at how brave the people who work at planned parenthood are on a single day you are putting your own personal safety on the line

because you believe in what you are doing. and the thing is that it is truly about respecting women to make those choices for themselves and i am so proud to be a part of this, my hope is that when it moves forward to the board of supervisors that we get an 11-0 vote and that it is signed by the mayor as quickly as possible. so with that, if we could have a motion to move this item forward? >> moved. >> so we have a motion by supervisor yee, we can do that without objection. >> thank you, very much. for being here. >> mr. clerk, is there any other business before this committee >> that concludes the agenda, mr. chair. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> meeting ajournd.
