business owner, but also a dedicated [inaudible] she creates [inaudible] helping people heal in our communities for the past 15 years tracy ran healing environments which is dedicated to healing suffering which is dedicated to art healing and stuffering. when they're closing she dedicates her time to [inaudible] residential care for men and women in need of /hos /pes and 24 hour care. she received the jefferson award in 2008. we've gotten to know each other, she recently stepped up to become president of sacramento street, which is a great merchant

street. i know tracy's hope is to revive that area and part of town. in addition to helping along the corridor she is the interim chair as supervisor moore mentioned for the richmond community advisory board. it's been really an honor getting to know you lately and your enthusiasm for what you want to bring to the table here is admirable. thank you for combining your involvement and your small business. it's a better place because of you. congratulations. >> thank you. i come from the

non profit world but even before that for me it all comes back to funture. i have some relationship to furniture and over the years i'm a furniture mover, i move lamps, tables, but usually in the direction of healthcare agencies and hospital chapels. just /trao*euing trying to improve the environment so people using those spaces had a better quality of life while they're here. i've met amazing people and amazing /phebls here in our community who have taught me great things. and i'm just but an ordinary san francisco

citizen, but as i move through my life and accept that my life is here in san francisco i keep finding ways to be involved. i'm a mom, but i feel my first primary job should be to him, but he's use to this now. he knows i like to help community. he's doing some after school work, but he thanks you as well. i find myself as a small business owner struggling. i love to connect people to environment so that part is really good. it's really disturbing sometimes that i can have days go by with almost no foot traffic and literally seeing somebody handing out tickets to people who have come out to the district to shop. i found myself in a dilemma

thinking how is this going to work. meanwhile as i work on my business there would be a crime down the street, say a 1000 pair of earrings from a small business owner. those were gone, there was no communication between /pher merchants that there was any crime on the street. we can't afford to have our livelihood sten from underneath us. i find myself stepping in, getting involved and getting incredible support. in january i reached out and said i'm going to try this on and i had people reaching across the

table saying how can i help you. more and more people keep leaning in, saying how can i help, how can i help? and thank you. so i'm here to say thank you for your support and we have more to do. and i'm kind of excited that so many people are behind us right now saying how can i help. so count me in. i'm here to continue in as many ways as i can and thank you very much for this honor. yeah.

>> next is district one, supervisor mar. >> thank you. i guess before i invite [inaudible] from [inaudible] market up i'd like to [inaudible] activities last week. i am proud of our small business, but especially a focus on making our merchant corridors, areas everyone is going to so that we're shopping small and sf made products. if you could come forward mr. [inaudible]. he is from

[inaudible] market and has been a leader for almost 30 years. he's provided not only high quality and healthy foods to our community, but i think this market is a place where people gather, but it's a place that makes the richmond district special. the cranberry sauce on their turkey is so awesome. it's a great place for picnics too to quickly gram of cocaine

quickly grab somethg and go into golden gate park. so it's a part of the neighborhood as well. he provides us with fresh fruits and vegetables, he's a leader in the independent grocers association and stands up for the small and medium sized businesses as well. the coffee and beer at the market are great as well. they have a wide range of price points. we assume you can get a better deal at a big chain store, but what i appreciate about this market is you can find stuff that's affordable, and also find the things for a higher end market as well. he's dedicated to the community

city wide. he's shown leadership in having more healthy food retail stores. he's supported safety and traffic calming in the area. i know we're /kopblting to work on that together for pedestrians and bicyclists as well. this is the ideal of what a community store should be. it's a feature of the daily lives for the people that live there. i'm honored to say thank you to the market, a real gem in the richmond district. >> i would like to thank san francisco supervisors for recognizing our market in

district one. i'd like to thank our staff for their hard work and making everything we do possible. the market has been there since 1950, it was not until 1994 for [inaudible] organic products and a pleasant and welcoming environment. i am honored to be part of this community. thank you for this recognition. there is nothing better than receiving this recognition from the city we love. thank you. >>

thank you supervisor mar. i have to admit when we're recognizing food establishments it's making me hungry. i am recognizing 450 setter pharmacy for our accommodation in district three because they are taking part in safe drug disposal where residents can drop off drugs for safe

disposal. unnecessary drugs can be dangerous in the homes as prescription drug abuse has skyrocketed in our state in recent years. our city's pilot program has been immensely successful. i've been working with our city's department of environment to encourage the national industry that represents drugs for funding for this program. i want to thank elaine and her coworkers because they've been dedicated to this program. for ten months 450 setter has collected [inaudible] importance of this program for our environment and for our local public safety and public health and i want to thank you for encouraging your customers to take part in the

prog but about 100 medical offices in my district to increase participation and awareness. i want to thank our district and 450 setter. >> thank you supervisor chiu. we really appreciate you bringing a program for this city for our environment to help with disposing of drugs [inaudible] or regulations are stating that we can't take anything back, but we always would call in [inaudible] and i appreciate that. it's always been difficult for us as a pharmacy knowing that parents have all this medication and they don't utilize it or it become a waste factor and it stays at home. i appreciate being in the company with all

these great independent businesses here in san francisco. i don't think we are quite as up to the par to be with these people who work as hard and being in the community. we're a we work as hard as we can. we're an independent pharmacy, we've been there for 31 years and we /praoerpbt the able to deliver medications to our patients. we're a compounding agency. we have a great time as being a real pharmacy, is what i like to say. we don't just lick, stick and pour. we can develop. we are involved with our community and we appreciate you allowing us to be in the community to help the

ceramics, the managing director. it is my honor to honor heath ceramics. they employ about 50 crafts people to produce high quality durable and beautiful ceramics. the company's goal of sustaining local manufacturing, creating high quality products and reducing environmental impact, has made them a model across the state of california and across the country. they pride themselves in providing a fair workplace for their workers and having a staff that is fairly

compensated and a staff that enits available to them. heath is committed to reuse waste reduction from the way they manufacture their productings to the strict standards they have for their products, this company has been leading the way in /sus stainable products for makes them a perfect candidate for this honor. it is truly a

pleasure for me and a privilege to say that you are in district /tphaoeupbl, that you are in the /pheupgs and i want to open >> thank you for that introduction and welcoming us to the neighborhood. we've only been in our facility there for about a year at this point even though we are a 65-year-old company. we are located between florida and alabama street in a warehouse that used to be a laundry facility. the building was built in 1920 and that's wawhat as we all know, that wasn't

the case for quite a few years, but we're thrilled to be able to bring manufacturing back to this neighborhood where we eel be making ceramic tile. this is return to san francisco as heath ceramicings was originally founded in 1948 in a small studio on clay street so this is our return to the city of san francisco. this is our second factory, our other one being in marin county. when we're up and running, we will have about 50 shops there, many of them related to tile production and distribution in and around san francisco. we look to be an example to bring

[inaudible] community is a big part of what we do as well. what i've learned in being in this industry is that manufacturing takes a really diverse group of people to make everything happen so we have a really verse group of employees and we hope to be able to pull from that neighborhood as well in terms of building or work force. that's why we came to san francisco, why it maid sense to build a fake factory in the mission district. a lot of our customers are here in san francisco and that enables us to make a strong connection with them. we have a factory that also has a showroom, warehouse, distribution center that invites the public in so we can teach people what manufacturing takes, who does

it and teach the careers for the young people of san francisco. we also did apply for [inaudible] building too because we want to welcome the general public to the street, build a lot of -- thank you for this award. >> congratulations to heath ceramic. our next accommodation will be provided

by our district 11 colleague, supervisor avalos. >> thank you. i rise to honor two neighboring businesses on broad street. they really exemplify the phrase all in the family. we have doctor and donald andrews. thank you for being here. doctor shelton is the owner of valley of the dolls and nail salon. he has been a lifelong resident of san francisco. not only has she been a leader an advocate for the black community, since 1970, but she is active in the third vice president of the san fran branch of the naacp.

she has applied the same type of energy and enthusiasm to the omi community serving as an anchor business in the commercial corridor. she is also responsible for dream teams runway, run by her nephew. it is a custom apparel store that is next door to valley of the dolls. i was at the dream team [inaudible] and i was impressed with the great energy and drive of that store and all the young people that really identified with the young person who was really making things happen on the

corridor. this helps uplift the neighborhood and demonstrates to the younger generation to fulfill their dreams. i would encourage you to check occupant their we believe site at www.dreamteamsrunway.com. i would like to celebrate a new generation of businesses and families. i think this two pronged approach represents the kind of healthy development that i encourage whole heartedly. i think our [inaudible] program need to have an alternative model to fit with the [inaudible] corridor and you with work starting with two businesses to help make that happen. thank you for being here and please

share with us your great wisdom for your work. >> thank you supervisor avalos. first of all, i want to tell you he's my grandson, not nephew. he's my grandson. it's a fantastic day in san francisco isn't it? and aren't we glad we lev in america where we have the freedom of choice. you know an event like this can't happen in some countries so we are so thankful that you look on us as part of the neighborhood that makes the difference /-fpt when we are born god gives us an imaginary key ring of life and when we use one key on our ring of life, she gives us another. so i thank you for this new key that you've given me today and to donald and we're going to use this key to open some doors for young people in our

neighborhoods and create some careers, as you all probably know i have a tv show and it's call buzzing around with doctor shelton and it airs on public tv channel everyday sunday night at 9 o'clock pm. but we need to train some young people in careers. i see them sweeping the streets. this is a good job, but it causes you to look down. we want to come up with something that make them want to look up. i will be talking to supervisors and i want to thank my family and friend who came to spend the day with me to receive this great award. and i will put this among the other awards that i've received and i will be so proud so they that i received this honor from the small business commission and all of you that represent the

great city of san francisco. and i've been in business there on broad street in the same location 40 years so now i'm going to allow donald to tell you something about his business. and i'm so proud of him because he could be doing other things instead of creating a business. >> good afternoon everybody. how we doing? i didn't have no speech prepared or anything so i'm gonna free style it. i created a movement back in my community and it 's a real powerful movement and i deal with a lot of at risk kids and i been watching these kids grow up since i was 7, 8, 9. some lost in street battles and some got put away by chases that

they made on their own. at the end of the day i'm just here trying to open up doors for the youth. before i was doing this i was a case manager and i just love dealing with kids and i try to help them get through they days and lives 'cause i'm from a neighborhood where these kids come from a broken home. so i'm just trying to be that big brother, that big uncle and that best friend so i'm trying to show them anything this life is possible. i'm 26, opened my first business up at 25 and i'm just making i want happen. so i'm very thankful and i thank ya'll for listening. >> and thank you supervisor
