7:08 pm
>> our motion will be to - we're looking for a resident in the tenderloin that has knowledge of our protect tenant. if we are not able to find someone we'll consider the two applicants before us >> and do you have any comments mr. fong. >> i just wanted to give a quick background. this is for argue gary transit project. we do intend to come back to our committee meeting in july with an update on the project.
7:09 pm
but today, we're here to seek appointments for the vacancy on the committee. the one seat has already been discussed. the other seat is an at large seat. we received 5 applications. we note it wasn't mandatory for anyone to come today but we'll yield the floor for any candidate >> i know that two of the candidates are here. but please come forward if you are here >> good morning commissioners. good morning citizens. i've submit my application for the at large seat for the gary
7:10 pm
transportation. my current occupation is at caltrans environmental planner. i would understand if i was accepted as a candidate i would have to abstain from any issues that have to deal with caltrans right-of-way. by my most important reason why i applied is that i live in district 5 in ms. board of directors district. i live at st. france co-op and i've lived there as a homeowner. i live right next to la began. i also represent 2 >> i pledge allegiance to the flag and 99 homeowners for most of them are elderly.
7:11 pm
their mostly retired. i'm on the committee there. i'm in the lower fillmore and western district. if you have any questions, please ask me but please accept my application >> mr. goldberg. >> good morning commissioners. i'm matthew goldberg. i'm a .22 resident of san francisco. and have about that an enthusiastic transit rider for my entire residents in the city. i'm a homeowner in district 1.
7:12 pm
i live half a black block from gary avenue. and for the last several years i've been commuting believe it or not and i work at city hall. i'm here in my individual capacity today. i'm authentic about the project and would like to participate and contribute to insuring an excellent project moving forward that will serve residents along the entirety of the path. i appreciate your consideration of my candidacy and i would like to participate. if you have any other specific questions i'd be happy to answer them >> next candidate. >> hello, i'm nicholas.
7:13 pm
i live in district 2. i don't live on the gary corridor by you who were on the gary corridor my synagogue is there. my wife and i frequent there pr we go to the beach for recreation. i'd like to bring to the committee the prospective of someone who doesn't necessarily live or commute other than the corridor but who uses it for the other tremendously important things. i'm current on the commission and i'm interested in the environment point of view and the needs point of view is very important to me. thank you for considering me
7:14 pm
>> mr. larkin. >> good morning commissioners i'm the candidate for either of the openings. i am a professional engineer. i'm a 28 year resident of the outer richmond district. i ride the 38 local on a regular basis. i was a member of the first citizens committee for the feasibility study and i've been to most of the meeting as an at large participant and i figured that i would like to - as well as i'm at the meetings anyone i might as well join the committee. there has to be someone on the
7:15 pm
committee it might as well be me. >> i was going to ask if the other two candidates for the tenderloin vacancy are here. >> though i should mention that the supervisor or commissioner kim has urged us to continue this. >> thank you, commissioners good morning. i'm peter i'm a resident of the tenderloin. i myself am a transit rider and i don't own a car. as a frequent rider i'm familiar with the challenges of overcrowding and believe the project is a real opportunity to
7:16 pm
address those issues and others. professionally i've worked on the clean transportation promises with the city. first, as a city hall fellow on the city's bio fuel program to increase the sustainable fuel used for the mini buses. i work in the clean transportation program. it promotes transportation use and reduce single occupancy trips in the city. i would draw upon my experience as an ally to communities of color to insure this project is inclusive particularly from the downtown community. and i would bring special
7:17 pm
attention to air pollution reductions and enhancements to communities live ability and vitality. i appreciate your consideration of me >> thank you. commissioner kim and a thank you actually peter if you do mind since you're here i have mentioned something the tenderloin is the lowest income residents. so it's really important that that prospective get represented especially because the other representative for about the downtown resident lives in district 5 she's a great person but now that i have this one
7:18 pm
opening. you mentioned this and i'm kurt's to see what the to that issues of the lowest income folks what are the most important issues >> i think particularly assess and providing making sure that the mooney you lines serve the community especially with this project making sure the tenderloin isn't just a pass through. and making sure that if there's stock collection there's a series of stocks in the community currently the express line passes through the community but i'd like to see a promise to continuing assess base it's vital. i think for in terms of some of the proposaled changes including
7:19 pm
assess be able to assess the bus for disabled residents in the neighborhood is definitely of certain. the current way that folks are getting on and off the buses especially the sdltdz it be made easier. also in terms of enhancing the community making sure that safety on the bus is represented and included and by also enhancing just the corridor. with any sort of green elements making the stops more well lit and safer creating for more folks inform sit while waiting for the bus. thank you >> thank you peter i let norway are a know we were continuing the seat i didn't want it to
7:20 pm
seem like she wasn't interested. she's a san francisco native and in her home sees a transit rider but she knows we're continuing the seat >> thank you. and commissioner kim has made a suggestion we continue the do you want tenderloin decision today but my hope is we make a decision on the seat oh, i see that commissioner campos has a remark >> i just wanted to note on the seat for the tenderloin you know, i think that commissioner kim raised some important points
7:21 pm
and it makes sense to provide the time so that there is, you know, full investing of the various applicants. i definitely agree with the prospective of having that represented. i will note my interaction with this gentleman i think he's a very social justice individual and active around those issues. i think he brings a loot to - a lot to the table. all of those indicates are interesting so thank you >> commission bred. >> thank you. i just wanted to
7:22 pm
express just some certain about making an appointment for the at large seat only because i'm just receiving the application for a lady. i haven't had a chance to thoroughly review here resume but i do think that from my prospective of some of the challenges we have directly in the area where she lives i want to make sure with the changes in terms of the conversations around gary boulevard and making changes especially with the larger population implicated in that area i'm more inclined to
7:23 pm
support someone who has first-hand direct experience because she lives in that corridor. i actually just received a call this morning from leroy king who is a former member about some of the issues about seniors being able to cross in that corridor and i think having the direct source of living in that neighborhood with the challenges we face it's important to have someone on that particular committee that's directly impacted i have after reviewing resumes i had walked in here from a different expectation by after reviewing that candidate i would suggest either we have more time
7:24 pm
i would push for - i would prefer to push for her as a candidate but i haven't had the time to sit down with her so talk about that. i have some concerns >> colleagues i want to remind us it's a 11 member committee and there's two designated seats 3 richmond district seats although one is a district 2 person and one tenderloin - no two tenderloin seats. so what we're dealing with one at large seats and one of the two tenderloin downtown seats. mr. fong do you have any additional points to make? >> okay. i don't. i know we had already approved
7:25 pm
one person. do you remember which one? >> winston parsons was selected as an at large rep and that came from the last programs meetings. before we open this up for public comment i want to say i think this is a really critical project and the 11 members have is a challenge to make sure the b r t has major business and resident input. the details have been frustrating.
7:26 pm
we have a gentleman who has been active as the transportation authority c ac. we value his work there but that's why matthew goldberg it's one of the b r ts that needs a wide range of input. i think that mr. goldberg has an proactively involved and he's a rider as well. i want to say that he has a master in transportation and also resident input into the non profit i sector but also the private and public work together. i think he would be a very enthusiastic member of the c ac who would add expertise to the
7:27 pm
committee. if there's no other comments i see commissioners >> my only comment and fortunately, this pretapes my supervisor but the person who served as supervisor doesn't live in the district. and there are no members open this particular committee that live directly this close to the implicated area. i do p know that, you know, there's another member who is represented from the japan task force. because the desires to change the area which are extremely important but again you know
7:28 pm
from my prospective, you know, i'm prepared to continue the item but from my prospective i would like there to be someone on this particular committee who lives in the implicated area and understands the changes and has a contact with the seniors there regarding the issues of gary boulevard. that's from my prospective. i'd be the record in knowing the possible combriergs of terms for some of the other members from the japan town seats >> commissioner yee. >> yeah. i want to say that actually there's some fine
7:29 pm
candidates for this at large slot. and it's hard to choose when you have those great candidates but looking at who should be part of this. you have - as you look on the sheet basically, you have the richmond district 3 and district 2 and district 1 and 2 near the tenderloin and at large. when i look at we're the current - where the currency members live i see that there are people living in one, 2g, 9, 7, 6. slots of 2 and 5 and that what's missing is someone living in
7:30 pm
richmond >> because of that i'm in favor of choosing somebody i would like to see somebody from the richmond on this committee so i guess we're not really creating our nomination right now. i'll leave that for later. . that's my desire to say someone on richmond >> thank you commissioner campos. >> thank you mr. chair. what i would say i think that the information about when seats expire would be useful going forward and i active agree with every comment that's been made because i think that every member of this committee has an important point.
