other department that is a little bit responsible again, and you know, did they treat this owner, this is a constant question for us, did they treat this owner the same way they would have treated any other owner? >> in the same circumstance? with the same plans? with the same buildings? and that is really what we wants to get at. >> commissioner melgar? >> thank you, commissioner. >> everything that you guys have said is right on and i think that we, will, get on top of it, i think that this is a really good, staff and really a good commission and i would like to address, something a little different which is our pr. and i think that so, after this article, came out yesterday, it became the most shared article on facebook and twitter, and i don't know if anyone is monitoring that. i was, you know, that is really, a big deal.
4:01 am
because, as president mccargy said we have worked really hard especially after the civil grand jury report to address the issues of nepotism and favoritism and all of the things that have plaqued the department in previous years, which i do not believe are currently plaquing us now, but one article comes out, and it undoes so much work that has gone on to address the public perception and so that is really too bad and what i am interesting is that along with the report we also have a plan, a plan for the press, on how to get the information out and how to assure the public, and how to get on top of this and ahead of this, because in the world that we live in, this stuff just goes viral, you know? in a couple of hours and so purpose mar, and because you are... commissioner mar, because you are not on, you are not on facebook and so we need to get you on.
4:02 am
>> thank you. >> i would request that of the staff too, thanks. >> is there any other comment on this? ? thank you, director and i think that you, we need to, we all need to, we know what needs to be done here. and so, on the next report, on this, and if i have to hold a special meeting i will and if you request that, and if you think that you need that, director, and i am gladly do it and i am sure that the commissioners will facilitate, and we owe the public a very, very solid report on this and as long as i am president i am going to insist that we or no stone is unturned and that there is a full transparency on this report that goes back out to the public. >> okay. >> commissioners? i have a question. the way that i layout my plan, do you have any comment or suggestion to me and so i think about the logically how to deal with this situation?
4:03 am
>> to ask them to get a report in parallel with the review and meanwhile, the plan check and we visit the site and actually seeing the site is different than the paper to see how much is the cost and also, the plan for inspection to make sure that everything is, and everything is in parallel with the district and inspector. you know, what the state attorneys and with and we deal with the media. and when it has... and any on suggestion? i would want to make it fair and open to make sure that we do it right. >> thank you, thank you, very much, tom. >> okay, commissioner mar, one more comment. >> just another question of off this topic.
4:04 am
but, it has to do with the questions to the staff. and i know that there was some discussions, in previous meetings about some of the problems that some of the low rent housing high-rises were having with their elevator and so i wanted and i know that there is a report that the mayor's office has asked our department to do regarding some of the elevator and some of the more problem rental buildings, whether they are public or private. and so i was wondering if that same report could be shared with the commission? from the staff. because, i think that we should look at, you know, the elevator break down situations especially in the housing that has a lot of seniors and disabled folks in them. whether they are public or private. >> commissioner walker? >> concur with that and also would like to have an update on the market street project.
4:05 am
and to see what the move forward is at the next meeting. >> okay. >> item 5 b. future meet ands agenda, at this time, the commission may discuss and take action to set the date of a special meeting and/or determine the items that could be placed on the agenda of the next meeting and other future meetings of the been inspection commission. >> the next regularly schedule meeting is january 15th, 2014. >> commissioner lee? >> and i also would like to report that the nomination committee will meet on thursday, january 9th, and i think, at one clock is that it? >> yes. and it has come to my attention that the soft story program or ordinance that created the soft story program also specified that we need to appoint three new members to the board of examiners. and that would be the tenant
4:06 am
seat, a property owner seat and a structural engineering seat and so we will be discussing that as well as talking about expired and soon to expired seats, on the code advisory committee access of appeals commission, and of course, the board of examiners as well. and for this, i like to ask the director if they could send these secretary of those three commissions to this meeting because we like to discuss, things with them. and is that okay? >> okay. >> all right. >> okay, i had a follow up question. i was just wondering especially for the new seats. with the seismic safety ordinance, and i was wondering if there was a special out reach done, you know, just to let those con constituents
4:07 am
know that we have these seats available and i think that sometimes especially if people are not as active in the commission's business, they don't know that there is these kind of seats that come up. >> all right. >> commissioner martha is, we are planing to do that and as of right now, there is notice posted on the dbi and the building inspection commission website and we have, that is the process that the nomination committee is going to be working on is to do the out reach to the different groups that have those types of structural engineers and the other qualifications. >> and the cop folks. >> right. >> who include the land lords and the tenants. >> yeah, i want to make sure that the tenant and the out reach like the san francisco owners or the different housing groups are notified. and you can let me know if there are specific other groups that you want me to add to the e-mail list. >> but that is one of the reasons why i want the
4:08 am
secretary and the commissions and the boards to discuss those strategies with them. >> okay. >> all right, thank you. >> is there any public comment on item 5 a, and b? >> hi, commissioners andy, and on this issue it is unfortunate what happened, but we just remember that it did go through the peer review and so kind that in mind and so on plan checking quite frankly i think that dbi has done a great job on plan checking and also when it comes to fees, we could lot of this you and they are looking at the what the cost of the project is and they are very tough about it and they are really are. and so, i know what happened over here that came off what it did buff i just wanted to try to separate the issue of the plan checkers from what actually happened, it happened in the field and that is not a matter and, so on the whole, i think that dbi as far as plan checking they are doing a great job and i think that we and
4:09 am
everybody else and we had them working there and so i just wanted to say that, thank you. >> any further public comment? >> okay, seeing none, item six, review and approval of the minutes of the special meeting of september 25th. >> move to approve. >> is there a second? >> second. >> are all commissioners in favor? >> aye. >> aye. >> opposed? >> is there any public comment? >> seeing none, the minutes are approved. >> item 7, adjournment. is there a motion to adjourn? >> so moved. >> second. >> thank you. >> all commissioners in favor? >> aye. >> aye. >> happy holidays everybody. >> happy holidays. we are now adjourned, it is 10:20 a.m..

4:25 am
-- good morning, everybody. thank you for attending the conference on market street. i think it's all part of the the initiation for the new ci o. when i got interviewed by the city administrator and mayor lee, i was told that for tradition of the 12 days of hercules it was to accomplish and the first one would be the easiest one. i would like to ask you to join me the very inspiring mayor who is going to
4:26 am
tell you the first tasks of those 12 is. mayor lee? [ applause ] >> thank you, mark. well, you just met mark, he's our new cio for department of technology. he's already approved himself to be a hard worker. we've tasked him with showing us what he can do in a short period of time. i would like to thank our supervisor wiener and working closely with the p.d., department department of public works and the ability to present an internet connectivity wireless ability along market street has been very important to me because it is part of what we were trying to do on the whole market
4:27 am
street. so, today is of course announcing that the department of technology has been able to complete this with a very special partner ruckus wireless and i know selena is here today and i want to thank her for providing the professional guidance, the hardware as well as the good technical advice to the department of technology along with all the other partners that you see behind me working together to collaborate on this. so as of today, we have wireless technology free to the public. also not filtered. you can use it anonymously. all along, from here all the way to the ferry building, probably about the
4:28 am
length of kaepernick pass to vernon davis as the whole market street and it's all of it's crosses streets and sidewalks will have access to wireless accessibility. why is this important? market street is such an important thoroughfare for the city of san francisco. not only have i focused on its revitalization for it's economic viewpoint, not only are there additional residents living on it and more people shopping along it and eating and enjoying themselves but now they have this free internet access use to it. also because it's such a diverse city use. it's over a quarter of a million people walk this corridor on an everyday basis. it has a huge diversity of
4:29 am
population. it has small businesses, large businesses, as well as financial as well as restaurants all along the way, established and new. we wanted to signal this was part of that revitalization. i know supervisor wiener is very happy with this because he along with supervisor chiu has been asking to do more with communities of ethnic diverse backgrounds. this is a demonstration of what we can do in a major corridor. we have a vision that other corridors in other of our diverse communities can also benefit similarly as this will be. and again, it's the right way of doing it. it is the kind of public private partnership that we've been seeking with companies like ruckus wireless to help with us, dt will be maintaining it from here on to
4:30 am
make sure it is accessible to everybody. like i said earlier, it's one that we will keep market street as something that department of technology on behalf of the city would like to do for it's residents, for it's businesses to allow them to have that access. so, what are other candidates? certainly our school district. we already have about 27 public libraries have all been wired up and as you heard several months ago have a partnership with google to wire up one of our public parks, city hall, regional parks and we have more to do. we want to update the public housing sites as well to provide access to people who couldn't afford to do this on the
