6:30 am
partnership in the years ahead. as a current resident i appreciate all the work go that's making this better around san francisco and across the bay area and you have the folks in this room to thank for that so thank you (clapping.) >> okay. before we open it up to questions i want to acknowledge the woman who was spear heat the work working with the folks at the muni and our it people and all the providers the transportation companies, the companies they're working for, the bay area council and our manager carly she's the brains behind this. now we're available for that questions and jim is here to answer with questions and mayor
6:31 am
and i and director nolan >> what's this permit for do you have to have a permit for a shuttle what if somebody doesn't want to - >> there's a whole a lot of questions there. >> and how many does that cost. >> the basic idea what we have we the city and a transportation system that the providers want is access to muni bus stops so the permit will permit someone to use the bus stop, of course, only muni buses are allowed to use the bus stops so the permit will designate a certain amount of bus stops by permitted providers and would subject them
6:32 am
to a number of a number of restraints not interpreting with muni and possess popular not to use the rest of the 2 thousand muni bus stops. that's what the permit provides that's a dollar per day per we're governed by prop 18 such we can only recover our costs for the program and not generate money only the san franciscans can generate a tax. so we identified was it would cost us to develop and run an 18 month pilot about some thousands of dollars and we expect the
6:33 am
dollar per day finger >> (inaudible). >> no. >> and (inaudible). >> we don't have - >> (inaudible). >> if you want to use our bus stops you have to be part of the permit program and once that's in place you have to be permitted to be part of the program. >> (inaudible). >> how much money are are we talking about and again, it's not going into the general fund to pay for administrator and $1.15 million to be the one hundred thousand figure is the afternoon for companies some are
6:34 am
larger and small but the one-hundred 5 million will pay for the costs of a.d. administering the program. >> so did you commuter buses on - >> so the buzz the question is what's the impact been on muni services. their large vehicles and those who have ripened muni experience this we hear it from our operators sometimes those buses are delaying muni for getting to a stop to unload passengers so they dwell longer at the stops but the basic issue is some of the busiest muni stops are where they want to be and that is the conflict that we're trying to
6:35 am
solving with this program >> to increase enforcement. >> part of the 1.5 million is part of the cost. >> how many companies will participate in the program (inaudible). >> that includes the companies. >> hi, sure. carly c ar l i so the kwae question was how many companies participated that's 3 dozen companies a mix between providers and companies that provide the service to their employees and the transportation like bowers and compass who many of this contract out for so
6:36 am
there's an overlap and that's included in that the medical institution as well >> so shilt companies. >> in most cases the transportation provider that's they're busy and operators but ultimately whomever wants to choose to be the permit he. >> are you going to ask for more money. >> so the state law based on prop 18 and 26 restricts any local government from collecting foes and they're now greater to cost than the fees support. so the state law to raise the revenue is is to go to the
6:37 am
voters for a revenue increase >> how many plays - >> i don't think we have that information. i didn't really mention this one of the benefits of the pilot is to gather the information that requires a significant data component to this so we can understand the dynamics of how many people are moving in from where >> so is there infrastructure improvements and how much money and how does this effect building - >> probably not building new stops but signage to make it clear to which stops are available and maybe they need a bigger bus place. >> you mentioned the symbolic
6:38 am
you know the significance that those buses have taken on you have a general displeasure are muni you think this will disarm that. >> i think it lends a legitimate really of the shuttle to our transportation system and that's been recognized by the bay area council. we didn't want them to be the symptoms of something else they're getting people to and from work and preventing thoisz thousands of cars from getting on the roads and really reducing the cartoonish emissions but their transporting people to work and that's really the essence of this conversation that he need to get people to work. so how do we make sure it compliments our muni system
6:39 am
rather than brushes up against it to create for challenges and safety challenges and others this pilot will give us more information but the great part is the collaboration from the companies who provide the service they'll start discussing with us officially what those challenges are on a zone by zone basis and how to improve the safety and effectiveness of the system >> do you have an issue of how the goose killed the golden egg those reduce the (inaudible) or getting people on cars and now there's regulations that is going into effect. >> we can survivor that if we
6:40 am
impose it that's where the collaboration is so they know they want to not be in front of a muni bus trying to pickup people and coordinating steldz e schedules and don't want to exchange very clear congested areas of forcing a bike rider into a lane and they want to know who else wants to coordinate with us and who wants to be in agreement with us rather than people who want to do their own thing. i think this is a great attempt to coordinate something and if we don't do it we'll have the challenges and by god safety is our number one issue >> (inaudible) shilt buses going to muni bus down to the
6:41 am
drop off passengers and that's a financial detriment and (inaudible). >> using a muni zone in coordination with our very challenged muni system that's been succeeding over the years but now we have a whole plan to get them resources i think that's a privilege to use the same spaces in a coordinated way and we're not talking about a tax we're getting a system they've agreed with us would be a better system then the he felt skeleton. >> thank you
6:42 am
>> (clapping) all right. thank you erica and thank for the great work. leader pelosi and mayor ed lee thank you for your attention. welcome to yelp. i'm excited to have you here at our new headquarters. as you know yelp has lived within the same radius. we've moved a short distance away and to keep our headquarters in san francisco was a conscious one. san francisco was a key player
6:43 am
in the yemz story. we realized that yelp might work in cities around the world with yelp in 23 criteria's we need a little bit more desk space. yelp has 17 hundred employees 8 hundred in sf. we're committed to growing the local economy and maintaining a strong connection to our san francisco lines. when looking for a new headquarters it was location, location, location. we needed somewhere to provide easy access to lots of local businesses and restaurants and remain convenient for mass transit riders and bike riders a
6:44 am
lot of our employees ride bikes. combrem is pack at about local plays and celebrate the distinct active and unique. we want to have this into a more than workplace. talking of resident at the 130 montgomery is an important milestone. we'll celebrate our tenth anniversary next year. i'm privileged to introduce yelp leader our 2kwishd nancy pelosi (clapping.) and what on a honor to be your representative in congress. thank you jeremy.
6:45 am
your leadership and your sense of community and for staying in san francisco. i'm honored to join you and your colleagues especially our mayor who has a relationship with this part of the whole city, of course, but this was his baby and he's done a remarkable job. when we cut relishes at another that i have i tip my hat to president obama for helping to make business grow in this part of town. it's great to see you again jeremy. he brought some of the enthusiasm to washington for yelpless recently.
6:46 am
and erica congratulations on our work here. lisa and matt congratulations on our awards how wonderful. but it's a principle for me to be here as your representative in congress to the new headquarters but a building of great tradition and that's in our city. this whole faith is built on technology and really save in community because community is what yelp is all about. yelps success is living proof that american business doesn't want just service a small community but this whole
6:47 am
community. from the beginning this torrid company acknowledged that this can be a good model of bits. and certainly there's no befrt place to test this model but in san francisco. consider where we are today 140 new montgomery street stand for innovation. the first sky skrarpt to be in san francisco. it was then the pacific telephone company. i've been using caving stone as means of communication but that was the innovation of the day. that was here in 1929 that, sir winston churchill made a
6:48 am
telephone call for his 21st wedding anniversary he said why say the age of migraines it past it's just the beginning to today, we mark a new beginning it's called the monument for talk it's called yelp. today, we have the opportunity to celebrate the now global company community community community how many communities jeremy. while millions of companies understand how yelp can help to change minds fewer know how dedicated this is to helping nonprofits doing the same they're committed to helping leader to find czar grant award
6:49 am
and a having champions within the company to open the doors of opportunities pr i congratulate you it's a small amount of money to help incurs who are striving to build better community. 826 val say thank you for helping children to learn more skills. and that's what communication is all about. and the initiative to expand their business. it's all connected to communication and empowerment.
6:50 am
i take it something is going to happen with bell, pack bell jeremy said they have their yellow pages and we have yelp. we affirm our deaths for the economic engine it drives the american dream so thank you yelp for your leadership this tliefrz on the power of community. thank you for your imperial spirit and a your commitment to the community. thank you congratulations to yelp (clapping.) don't use it as a model but
6:51 am
(laughter) you really this is such a passion for the mayor. and i know what this means to many this building yelp coming here for him everyday strives to make san francisco the engine of economic growth of community respect of giving opportunity to so many people. i know this is a special program and he wanted to decade yelp to the san francisco community >> thank you (clapping.) well, that's kind of neat to have it yielded by the leader. i am, of course, very glad to be here at yelp this is my second invest to this site. i know that erica having something in common being from
6:52 am
berkley. it's great to see people coming together after law but it's good to see maybe there's life for me. but i'm happy to be here and join nancy pelosi and congratulating he yemen they're new home. yelp is special they're starting here and staying here that i i love coming here it is now 8 hundred the numbers changed. i visited a few weeks we looked at the building restroom for a thousand. i want to join leader pelosi it is a happy day. i love to see companies succeed and the collaborating and
6:53 am
sharing ideas this is what yelp has done. and then to do something special in the what happened in san francisco because companies that are here and start here they follow in the tradition like the charles swabbings and the fisher's and the hell man's they discover the resources and want others to grow with them. that's why to recognize 3 outstanding nonprofits you've columbian but even if company like yelp now, it's yelp and yelp foundation. i love that because i got it, it's sales force and sales force foundation the technology
6:54 am
companies are taking up that social responsibility like no others and i love seeing that because that's been the values of san franciscans. we've shared in our success and as we present more companies whether their along market street or monday night grorm we have 1 thousand companies in san francisco plus. think about how many foundations this represents >> we all know the understanding is becoming clear innovation is not about the temple it's about a way of thinking. it suggests that community collaboration, building of that community, sharing of ideas is really a spirit. i've been very happy to
6:55 am
collaborator collaborate with yelp and looufrt has been with us a couple of times we have a relationship that's not just in the city. i'm happy to bring yelp with me and present them to other mayors. we get to not only brag but to announce we're solving things that we're not in the drudgery of retention reform and run away accounts but we can solve them in partnership with the private sector. we took this one example data that no one looks altered from restaurants and we discovered there's no eyes on that so we matched that up with the real
6:56 am
eyes that are at yelp and made that connection so when you go to let yelp website i can see the relationship in government and we announced that and other cities asked how we have more people using that process. that's one of dozens of example whether it's in transportation finding parking spaces and ride sharing to function more efficient. this partnership goes beyond it and you have made it exist. i'm interested in seeing the other donation you're making to consumer free speech and thank
6:57 am
you yelp for being here i want to call up jeremy and a nancy pelosi it's about time that on the occasion of establishing you're wonderful headquarters and i'll watch the demonstrate you're wonderful services this is today yelp day colleagues, that places you on the next item >> does that mean he can park whatever he wants. >> that's the green bike thing. >> it's earlier in the day sometimes, it happens at dinner 7, 8, 9 but now you're telling me. >> thank you for your leadership. >> thank you.
6:58 am
>> it was our original bell when we started selling yelp across the street. and it's been rung many times and we were going to allow you to bring it forward
6:59 am
(laughter) >> it's been an honor. >> let it ring. >> (ring,
7:00 am
>> special order of business, superintendent you have an announcement. >> item m, one of the item m items assessment for 13, 14, is being pulled from tonight's meeting, and will be reschedule for next regularly schedule board meeting. >> thank you, mr. superintendent. all right. stipulate you lated in series, 9,000 the board shall readopt its rules and procedures at the first regular board meeting of the year and thus may i hear a motion and second for the readoption for the board of education rules and procedures. >> so moved. >> second. >> thank you. >> are there any, and there are no speakers, are there any comments from the board? >> seeing none, roll call? >> thank you. >> wei. >> yes. >> logan. >> yes. >>
