courthouse or street named after them but take my word the list is longer. they include former members of congress and state legislators but when this was brought up in committee it was the republican who made the motion much to the objection of the chair it was a republican making a motion to name this great bridge for the great work that willie brown is doing and has done for the people of california. it was the latest example willie brown was able to build his own bridges across political allegiance to find common ground. you don't need to be from san

francisco to know this is an international icon. as people run and come from all over the world and invest this city my extraordinary state and building our community educating the next generation and carrying the eventually. as people gaze upon the trickling lights and the cables of willie brown bridge from now and into the future we need not know reason of this as a bridge named after willie brown. willie brown junior is the bridge that makes the ends connect (clapping) and from this day forward people will cross that bridge minority and a people of color and the like and ask themselves what makes that man so great and it's

evidenced some degree of illness we decided to have a reunion every february 11th to let her know how much we loved and respected her. we had no idea thechs faking it it took those 11 years or more but the family hadn't been together frankly and that's in many, many years. when president huffman and the assembly members in the black caucus led by mr. hall said they were going to do this bridge thing and they did it now let's have the unveiling of the sign they said no let's wait until black history month and do it on my mothers birthday and that

all the days moving around renewi renewing friendships because they've traveled with me and i share this moment with them on this occasion of bridge naming. i also share it with a whole host of number one family members. i have treasured my friendships with a collection of people from around the country politically and socially and culturally and educationly and business world you name it. and those friendships and those relationships have just meant a whole lot and you who have shown up on this occasion a couple of

count down date and it kept raining and raining and i said let's do that on my mothers birthday and they don't know that woman she's got a relationship with the lord. under the circumstances the sun will be shining on her oldest boy on the dated when you do the bridge (clapping) and so credit my mother with the sunshine. and clarence were up correct to ask that question because when alice finally, called me they did this in secret he didn't want me to be involved taught u at all for fear i'd cause it to fall. they were keeping it out of my

sight completely until some reporter named a journalist called me up and asked how did you organize straight this bridge for being named after you. i said what are you talking about he said they're talking about naming the by a bridge after you. and i said that is to the o not possible i'm two controversial and i'm alive (laughter) and, of course, they said well they are. i called eleanor and said eleanor find out what's happening with the bridge naming and she got back to me and i called alice and alice hung up she didn't want to hear me she

was going to do it no matter what. i'm glad she hung up it's occurred i'm now about to have the unveiling of the bridge itself but they screwed up they got the wrong end of the bridge. i share you a view that's what happens to black people in america you get the achievement and they change the rules. that's kind of the way it works (laughter) but it is an incredible on a serious note frankly an incredible achievement and something i want to enjoy day in and day out. i love the cat on the streets

and kept checking me out i'm hoping they'll think i'm j z or small business. i go in the school and as i start to come out this little 8-year-old black kid who has all his little friends lined up because he clearly in this highly integrated school has been telling them about me and probably bragging about me he said hey administers who did you used to be? (laughter) . now i'm going answer that question. i am honored and grateful i must tell you with the whip and breath of the elected family of california at every level that showed up from the attorney general to the secretary of state all of whom are here to the members of the state and the state assembly and the mayor of san francisco and the mayor of oakland and the voice mayor of richmond and one of the small towns near your place. harry this one but i don't i know it's california. (laughter) but just the collections of the members of commissioner caisley and board of supervisors. the delegation from atlanta

couldn't get here because they couldn't leave expect one member of the delegation left a day early and the achieve city council councilmember is here and a whole bunch of other people who came from atlanta from connecticut and frank is here doing what they do well, to celebrate this occasion. i wish i could cite each and every one of you who are activity and applicants for continuation. i'm just overwhelmed by the show of support and i hope that is as the years unfold and if the

projections stated by mr. hall were true and that in the form that others will use that bridge if others will use my life and what i've done and the methods and levels of service in spite of the terms that newsom has used to describe if they use my life as a means to participate in making public policy exports and imports public policy then they'll be doing it on behalf of other people. that's the basis of my life and the basis that i think ultimately of my success and i'm just delighted that the

affirmation of that produce is now enshrined by name in the second most often used bridge in this great country. and i say to each and every one of you i'm just delighted and i'll continue to be delighted. i do and i will practice bragging rights every time i get a chance (clapping) i may even enhance as i according do i may enhance why the reasons the bridge. i was at an event recently and i said something to somebody and i remembered that there was a guy who owned a phrase that i absolutely loved.
