country. this is at the work about recognizing those babies grouping in your community and sometimes and greg suhr knows this but those babies go to sleep sometimes hearing gunfire they've witnessed credible violence on the streets and domestic violence and what we're doing is recognizing that they should receive the kind of indentation and treatment to deal with their trauma so they can lady the productive lives so the work that's happening is recognizing like a post traumatic stress order that exists when children are exposed to invention and allow them to lead a productive life. this is what nadine and others

have done for years victor studying post traumatic disorder whether an accident witnessing other violence or combining nadine work and doing the chin piece of addressing this and boats on the ground and creating what i think of really the model we should be talking about in terms of urban model. congratulations to everyone this is a proud moment >> and now the mayor of our

great city mayor ed lee (clapping.) pamela thank you again for not only being here but loading this effort this is really, really heartfelt. i recognize a lot of the people in the room we've had a lot of discussions about poverty in san francisco and how to really change it and end it in cycles but it against with the recognition as our attorney general has said we have to intervene more effectively it's got to be multiple agencies. i'm glad to see familiar faces from representatives in nancy pelosi's office to our cheer and education leaders all part of this very i think collaborative

effort it katie and other have put together. when you think about it child abuse prevention it's lead by c pmc and the youth wellness center that nadine bureaucracy has managed to come together under one roof and i know there's a suggestion that under this roof there's more room for other. in there's anything i've learned as mayor who advocates for our kids that's it that's got to be all of us and more people under this roof coming together and i think dan and laurie represents that group he's been about the city as a whole. i know daniel better with the

event called the super bowl but sports and all the things we do is about inspiring and building stronger community. you in this crowd her are part of the credible effort that the city needs your ideas and sense of collaboration and our department heads like trent and others we can't all just react to this but get to the foundation of that. we are understanding what it means to feel the days in which kids are playing freely and get the best education in the world that the city can offer that they have a clear future and in order to get there they'll got

to have indentation and being linked to other things that's why this roof is beginning to link abuse and a poverty to where where we need to go and allow us to be smarter and hit it at an earlier stage and do a lot more prevention it begins with the effective intervention. i take the principal of introducing an effective leader someone i've worked with on working on things like gun violence ammunition to strong store front you can feel the neighborhood is beginning to

come back with african-american owned businesses and youth now and i know that the chief knows this and our jiefl justice leaders when kids begin to earner they're first paychecks over the summer there's an alternative to activities that will give them the highest level of pride and allowing them to feel that way. i know our supervisors has done a wonderful job her it's an honor to really be at city hall to work directly with her let me introduce that supervisor cowen >> just give me a moment to absorb this is an exist time. since i've been on the board

this is the beginning 6 my fourth term as a candidate many years ago mr. harris was the district attorney and both of those ladies said it's one thing you got to do is get this center done. so you see the list of folks that have helped to gather and make this dream a reality the list is long but i want to give a moment to talk about my colleague who helped with this building come into fruition. i'm filled with achievement. my talking points i'm told to focus on being on the bayview

loins. it's existing about the bayview community the unparalleled trauma that young people as well as seniors and many people are exposed her here. i think that katie my nadine were exposed getting into the building. i remember having a candid conversation how could a community in so much pain fight something so good the answer is topple toxic shock the leaders for the last 40 years have experienced trauma they i'd like to take this opportunity wrap their minds around. so i want to everyone to take a moment and look at all the faces that have come into the building

those are the faces of people who have come to serve the community. i mean this is really a calling not a job you're either made for this work or you're not. i think chief suris a great example and is made for this. the thousands of kids not only in boyfriend but from all over the san francisco area will have a new lease an life from this center and dr. harris has helped to institute some vocabulary about toxic stress what it looks like and children as well as the community are exposed to poverty. i want to acknowledge the mayor

and the folks from nancy pelosi's office. we're breaking up pockets of poverty and infussing it with hope but more importantly changing the way we've been doing business. you're not concentrated on poverty but a core of the community. why not here why not. there innovative extension with the doctors and the nurses and the staff the children are have an opportunity to life a wonderful 4r50i6. thank you, katie and giving a voice and helping children have a voice. here at the center for youth

wellness we'll be able to stand with pride & as we looked at the portable this building holds so i'm very proud to be a native san franciscan and proud to represent the south eastern neighborhood this is absolutely amazing from 9 businesses to the serve provider. put your hands together and welcome katie albright the executive director of the center (clapping.) wow. thank you all so much for being here from attorney general harris for personal dedication to mayor ed lee and supervisor cowen you guys are great. thank you very much. what on amazing day for children

in your city. our collected hearts have been under for kids but the system we've created doesn't always show you our hearts. with this center we'll change that this advocacy center is where hope and healing begins the place where a child who's been abuseed can share their stories with the professionals that need to lineups listen together and help. a few years ago the mayor and the board of supervisors the city attorney and the district attorney human services agency and public health and the police and general hospital came together and said we need a

children's advocacy center in san francisco and asked the prevention center to take the lead we said, yes and we're creating the advocacy center on the top floor. with the city we'll be able to double the capacity to provide forensic services and state of the arc technology and best practices in healing it's so wonderful to see so many faces around the room as well as our partners to a work under this amazing child friendly roof. we're also so proud to partner with the baby child wellness center to provide wellness services in our community for families and children. and all this takes a community of heros to make all in this

happen. and heros like gipson dunn and the plan construction and the ruth albert group and cider who worked alongside the center to design and build this building this amazing building so to all those heros the board of directors and the san francisco child abuse center and on the one hand to our staff and you thank you very much for standing up for kids and thank you very much for being here today we're thrilled (clapping) >> i'm deeply honored to

introduce dennis herrera my ex-boss and others for the creation of the children's advocacy center. >> thank you, katie you know, i tried to recruit her two more times and now you know she's turned me down because she's committed on doing what's right inform kid so katie albright we owe you and nadine for having the strength to put together the child advocacy center. i can't think of a better leader to lead the advocacy than daniel. thank you. i'm glad you like new york but like san francisco

better. the mayor alluded to the fact that daniel is leading our super bowl effort. and that's working on behalf of community to provide that opportunity 0 for our young people. and to the child abuse prevention center thank you for this facility. i can't images a better way to hopefully this approach to making sure we're giving our young people the help and care they need. we heard the attorney general talking about what it means for young people at risk. you know she knows that first hand the attorney general has made young people her lives work and doing her best on the on

behalf of the state of california i remember a long time she prosecuted sex all abuse cases and when heifer e she was heading our family services team that was her lives work. so she's been going after big banks and pay day lenders but here life support is about care of caring about kids you make the case why we need to be equally committed to following her and daniels and katie's lead our youth is the future of the city and county of san francisco. we know kids of abuse have higher drop out rates and a

higher rates of incarceration and we know it's our responsibility to make sure we're listening to them and it's not likely to happen. i have unfortunately, i have to have 10 lawyers or 11 lawyers that work for the department of human resources to intervene when there are kids that are abuseed we're the front line to provide the protection. i wish i didn't have to have those lawyers i wish that kids weren't being abuseed i wish we could not have the center but we need the center because the works not done. you've heard supervisor cowen it's best it's located here and

i agree. i'm a resident i live up the street and i like to talk about this section this is the southeast sector and we have if you looked what has occurred the highest rates of crime and a highest risk of cancer because of the environmental risks but let's look at the progress chief suras reduced crime and more families are moving into the southeast sector and shut down two power plants to lesson the environmental problems. now let's lesson the risk to young people. this can be a grand boulevard of this section we owe this to the young people what we can do to

the rebitter of the bayview area what we can do on behalf of all the young people regardless of where they live so nadine and katie and a daniel thank you. i know all of you deserve a tremendous amount of consider it will pay off in spades. i want to introduce my district attorney to make sure we lesson the risks of young people. he has some great ideas to make sure we're providing opportunity for young people. george >> i want to repeat what's been said we want to thank all the people who came together to make

the center the possibility to date. it's interesting when we talk about public safety we're talking about enforcement and prosecution's and incarcerations but we often 23eg9 the best way to create sustainable save communitys is preventing crimes in the first place. this is dealing with young people and the early development of young people. that's an area we as a nation have failed to do. we have incarcerated more people in the world we are proud we talk about how good we are by enforcing the law and

prosecuting and incarcerations. this center demonstrates a better way not to say we're not going to continue to incarcerate folks we do this by the way we do things. this center is the beginning to a different way of thinking about public safety dealing with the impact of high levels of violence only a young person and their development that has been talked about. having all the police and the prosecutor and the health department and the city attorney

and our supervisors and nonprofits working together and recognizing that if we can prevent the harm early on we will make our community safer and do so in a much more intelligent way. i'm very, very proud to be part find this effort and my colleague runs the child abuse cases. awhile she's incredibly committed aid leslie works with her and katie the reality is we need to turn the dialog around and this is what the center is about. i'm very, very proud to be part of this. i want to introduce the next speaker the ceo who is made this

possible today (clapping.) so wow. this is a really great 340e789 that many of us who have been involved in making this possibly thought this wouldn't happen. so let me begin by thanking all our partners beginning with the c p m foundation we provided the funding to get this operated and daniel has been an inspirational person and, of course, the center for the child abuse prevention. this is part of what makes san francisco a wonderful city to live and work in when all nonprofits like c pmc can come together with generous donors

and visionaries who are really world leading in terms of leading and the government officials who are dedicated as well as at the staff who understand the importance of problem of taking care of 6 our simultaneously resident of the city. thank you all. i want to let you know there's a transition happening with 9 c pmc working with the south clinic charles is here so you should get that acknowledges recently got a grant to convert this clinic as part of the market clinic and that process is moving forward (clapping)

and the reason that's exciting is that it absolutely insures the stability of the clinic and in the bayview they've been interested in doing this many, many years. chavlz and i have had a discussion to make this happen and you won't be surprised there's many legal steps and the biggest decision had to do with the buildings h back system. it needs to meet certain requirement for the waiting room we're still working on. anyway, i want to thank everybody and working with the cac and the childcare center as we provide services for the boyfriend community.

so thank you all for coming (clapping.) hello, everyone i'm susz r suzy it's only fitting that i start by ceding any time to g l hostage highs the administrator at the baptist church, i visit you up here to speak >> good morning and welcome to downtown bayview. it is a great pleasure and honor to be here this morning arrest it's a pleasure to see so many faces in different venues. i've seen you before but not collectively. bayview is changing we're in an oasis in the middle of a desert

from being open the advisory committee to talking to dr. burk to releasing what trauma was and i didn't have it. we are changing the world. i say we because they came to the community and asked us what did we need what's trauma. the first time couple of committee meetings we went through trauma because the people they had there had been traumatized their kids had been traumatized and their husbands and we look at trauma today when i talk to kids and i have the school program and their numb to it if you saw your mother beat or your uncle shot or your

brother beat up you've seen death three or four times before you get to be 6-year-old you can't concentrate in school how do we end the cycle on poverty. if you can't sit in school and concentrate your not only hurting yourself burr but you're hurting all the kids in the classroom. it's very important we deal with the issues and then if we didn't have trauma they put you on ritalin and medication for the rest of your life and your life will be short because your kidneys and other organs they fall apart you need your body to heal you can't heal our mind and body.

they're dealing with the issues. they're getting down to the ground level. isn't it great you can work with a kid and a analysis a kid and a all of a sudden that kid can go back to school and learn your giving them them a fishing pole not a fish >> this is a small part of brown where we got to go coming come back and let's make bayview one of the great parts of san francisco (clapping.) thank you g l. you've heard from the speakers of the purpose of this place and i have to say it was 5 years ago i first learned that my boss who's over there the district attorney of the city and co
