essential to supporting our public heirs residents and revooilt a neighborhood in the southeast sector. as we begin to work on phase 2 of the rebuilt for hunters view it's necessary to reconfigure bike access and other transportation needs for the approval plans for the project. this is a simple standard and the items before us today, it's consistent with the approval plans for the rebuild of the site and the state law governing street vacation. we've got a representative from dpw here. there she is. and i look forward to hearing from them >> why don't we kickoff this from public works and followed

vacationed before you today. as noted in the area that's delineated in red that's existing west point road and the area that we requested vacation and the new street grid surrounding that area. contradiction is now beginning on phase 2 that will include the one hundred and 7 units it has been performed. the street vacation existent of banding 4 hundred feet to make way for the new street configuration as noted in the configuration open the screen. the vacation area is no longer need for the streets fire chief uses and the street vision a

much better. thank you very much just does not let this continue it's madness >> any other members of the public wish to speak on this public item. >> yes. i'm laurie live in public housing in the tenderloin. i know recently we're going through bad things about phase 1, 2, 3 and western edition about the rosa parks. we know that in this city our public housing is not being managed for all people correctly. i think the people in bayview hunters point out there really know they're kind of like the last mohegans but we're the test examples of public housing in district 6, you know, as we live in section 8 we don't get the

rights of section 8 they're putting us and taking the money and putting us in the smallest darn room they know they're going to get their money and come in with a lot of what you say those people spectaculars a lot of spectaculars in public housing that is creating trouble and chaos for the citizens of the city and county of san francisco. you know that black and brown i know what it is like and to have consensus that is still america and i want you to remember this is what's going on in the western edition >> any other members of the public wish to speak on this item. step up i'm sorry you still have

there's also the additional stress if they lose the public housing they're basically not going to being able to afford finding another place to live in san francisco. we're losing so many of our wonderful vibrant folks across the many spectrums their gay or separate and blaerd and old and young we've not addressed the problems with the public housing such things as the accelerator working and the folks who live on the top floor many are elderly they can't get in and out of their apartments on a regular basis to make considers appointments and foods and see

after i started and excited to see this last july with supervisor avalos in the park. we talked about san francisco being a technology hub and i'm a firm believer we need to create partnerships to enhance all the lives in san francisco. this accept and expand extend on behalf of the google will provide wifi access to parks and open spaces here in san francisco it's over $600,000 and includes a contract within city and county of san francisco and the maintenance of the project but also funded by sf city member google. we choose the sites across san francisco to make sure they recommended every spoiler district choose the sites for

the most bang for the buck. and vessels sites that have the highest numbers of visitors and that will allow community groups with wireless access that didn't have it before. through sf google they're providing the funding and we will provide the maintenance and our rec and park department will be the host of the installation and ultimately our residents will be the beneficiaries. we're all believers ♪ wifi access throughout our country it's a growing access to our parks and an amenity for park users. i do want to thank a number of organizations in particular sf city and google for their funding as well as our department of technology and our rec and park department as well as pa mary go in our office so

we know that enforcement has been going with the pedestrian and safety issues. the education piece has not gotten started i'm anxious without the education the enforcement piece won't mean as much >> colleagues, same house, same call? without objection this resolution is adapted. >> item 21 is to urge the mayor and chief of police and the transportation to adapt a vision zero to quote the pedestrian and bicyclist strategies. >> supervisor kim. >> thank you a lot of times has already been spent about this resolution but i do ask my colleagues for all your support on this stem. again, this resolution is only the beginning a commitment from the city to zero pedestrian fatalities in 10 years a commitment that other cities have made as well as countries

in europe. we believe that many of the traffic fatalities are completely preventable we look forward to working with our agrees and commander ali was here but i believe he had to go not reilly how long your other items would take along with the transportation authority to make this a reality. we know this occurs the traffic facilities occur throughout our city and we also know it happens that over 60 percent of our facilities happen on 6 percent of our corridors. if we even invested one of percent of our corridors over the next few years we'll be able to reduce our entries and fatalities by over half. our office is working with supervisor yee and supervisor avalos on putting some elements

of vision zero into our quoted codes so we'll be bringing in an ordnance particularly around our police codes as well. and i'm sorry and we look forward to working with sfmta that has passed a resolution supervisor kim to resolution as well. i want to give up any time to supervisor avalos >> supervisor avalos. >> thank you president chiu i wanted to say thank you to supervisor kim and supervisor yee for bringing those issues forward. the board of supervisors and the transportation authority have really taken leadership on a current crisis we're having. it's clear we can pass resolutions but the effort we've made and the hearings we've have brought u brought the agencies together. this leadership we've taken at the board is significant and we

have to stay on our departments to make sure we're moving forward with clear plans around our 3 e's here so i look forward to working with you colleagues we've created a special committee on the transportation authority that will be meeting especially on our 24 project in 24 months that will enable us to make a difference rapid in the city for the bicyclists. supervisor wiener >> thank you, mr. president. i'm excel supportive of this i want to thank the authors. i know that the education and enforcement pieces will fall into place and i've seen an increase in enforcement it's terrific. and some of the activity in this board chambers has been some of the impetus in getting this done and the advocates in the

community. i just want to and i know i so you do like a broken record but the engineering aspect is so important no matter how much education or enforcement being human beings we're not all tentative all the time we're imperfect per we're not going to have police officers every where and fundamentally we have to redesign our streets to maxim maximumize safety for all. it takes money but i think we're seeing nor resources being dedicated to those redesigns both from our budget and also through development impact fees but the prop k problem is we continue to see bureaucratic bottle necks that water down and sometimes kill very important

pedestrian and transit safety projects. unfortunate there are some departments that continue to make objections that negatively impact the prongs. i and others have been involved with the fire department in particular that has strong views. i have great respect for the fire department but i respectfully san diego we saw a few weeks good in supervisor breed district extending a platform to accommodate two trains this fire department opposed that it that looks like it will be shoernd so whoever is stepping off the car is going into traffic. whatever resolutions we pass we have to follow up working and being really involved if the process so those departments know this is a priority.
