program it makes we do. >> to think he might lose the literacy because the program is not funded to continue through middle school. our fourth grade teacher does a wonderful job she gets the job done and they learn great. after that there's no korean language instruction going forward in middle school and we need to change that that's the only way the kids are going to continue the korean after the fifth grade this is so much more than are more than learning the korean language but learning and appreciating other culture especially the korean culture r you have to understand the language and for my kids to be
4:33 am
able to experience another language and becoming fluid that's what diversity is about. we are behind the rest of the world scott wiener we have to teach our kids other languages we're so close we need to finish it thank you very much >> (clapping) >> dear members of the brown paper bags i'm samantha i'm speaking i'm a fifth grade eerie really enjoy the kindergarten korean and my teacher is teacher e teaching the 4th and fifth grader i want to continue my korean studies when i enter

sixth grade but it's not available. i'm worried about my eight grade sissy will lose my korean. it's important to continue my education in korean so i can be a bilingual speaker and whatever criteria goals i chose so i can continue to speak beyond fifth grade. >> hi, i'm melissa i'm spanking for my two children i have a fourth grader and a 7th grader and a sophomore so i have kids at outline ends of the spectrum. we were hopefully, there would be a pathway all the way through
4:35 am
so my emerging fluent child can graduate as a sophomore she's instrumental he went from being fairly good to almost kind of fluent could have a conversation to struggling to keep up with her peers. for us, you know, i'm hardly any kroerp any husband and in-laws are korean it's about how far we put all those money in teaching and kids 3 to 5 and give up it seems wasteful and the most efficient way to spend the money would have a pathway to commit and have a korean teacher for
4:36 am

4:40 am
been sitting on our hands we've formed nonprofits and worked with within the community and outside the community and partnered with our principle mr. hawk and the administrators to put together as much of a program as we could. now i look at the agenda for this evenings goal under accountability. keep our promises to students and families we ask only one thing that our board of education fully fund the commitment as of 4 years ago >> we have more speakers when i

4:44 am
the goals make social justice a reality. it's not a concern it's a must. you talk about student achievement we fertilizer our plants so the all leaves can grow and the air we can breath prosperity we ask about accountability as you heard ones before keeping our promises to the folks and right now the school the hunter view is owned by the san francisco unified school district and i thank you for having your people recently cleaning it you received a notice from sfoifgs for a violation we ask you to make the

4:50 am
there goes the teacher of the autistic students. this is amazing there's no app for that speaking in terms but it concerns me and it is heartbreaking to think that may not be a part of my life as i struggle to stay in the city i will. its heartbreaking there are colleagues that are considering the same thing that no longer work and teach in the sthap they live i won't have that anymore. the people call me teacher not because i've taught their kids bylaw but that's the respect they have for me as a teacher. we talk and share because that's how we do. i ask that you help us to keep our community whole and among
4:51 am
our greater community here in san francisco. thank you very much (clapping.) good evening board and everyone that's listening to us open the radio and tv i'm a teacher a fourth grade teacher and a community organizer in the admission. tonight i want to set a tune for what period that your union is coming in 0 with the district in terms of negotiation. as you heard from no more as a latino teacher we're a vital resource to our community. we shouldn't want to set a tune that our community is as to their separate as teachers. our children especially latinos
4:52 am
look up to us and it means something when we are the ones educating them they say that if that person did it and says its possible it's something worth fidgeting for. we want to come out her as community members and teachers as people who live and walk the streets not only in the mission the excelsior but the key communities that this district has tried to improve we hope in the coming period you'll you respect that the unit it's needed among the community and teachers and understand the problem those who are listening are the problems of the teachers and the community such as they try to have the economic struggle you no longer have a right to live where you work and
4:53 am
it's steel difficult to do. again, we want the board to recognize the importance of the teacher within the community the court: thank you, very much. for your time. thanks (clapping.) my name is dennis i'm president of the united educators of san francisco. i want to follow up on what was talked about we talked about this two worgz the numbers that have to do with the numbers living in san francisco that continue to live in san francisco's. the negotiations are progressing slowly in the bargaining team a need to convey hope to no more and frank who are waiting to hear about the salary increase. they know they gave the district
4:54 am
$40 million in one contract. $23 million in the next one. they know there are 63 million dollars kept the doors open in the clamors and kept the school awe renovate would one percent of the combined salaries between if two and $3 million they've given up the equivalent of 31 percent of their income and the tsas have lost money and given lost hope by a former administrator that lied to them. it it it is ironic that mr. burns was a skirt aid. there are employees we're the
4:55 am
bank you turn to when he need a bailout. now is the time to make historic reference. lee i coke paid it back. when teachers and parents got a note from the superintendant that was only $13 million available and the board members said there's commitments from $7 million the teachers figured out there was a 2 percent raise in under that's not enough not justice that is no way to treat people who trusted you with their 63 million dollars to do their job now is the time to look for your money to pay our debt >> thank you mr. kelly. >> hi, i'm a student at balboa
4:56 am
high school. now i heard there was a rumor that the classes were going to be shut down and when i heard about that i was really sdpaftd that class made me who i am. i don't know about my families language and my relatives my ann concerts i had a class and the 3 main words i remember from taking that class s it in translation that means brother sister and a family. i have behind me one of the my friends he's supporting me being her. i'm really dpepsz i don't know
4:57 am
next year it maybe be begun but for my friends and other people it's not too late it have a class. that class meant everything to me i take spanish but the fact i'm not able to learn about my families history and families language it feels like i'm not connected to my roots. i walk in the hallways and i think i'm walking the hallways and i don't know where i'm coming from and what did he know about my family. that class will build a family and connection and a bond. i just hope that that class succeeds to be there next year the following class can be a family class. that's all i have to say
4:58 am
>> thank you, chris ferry. >> one last speaker. >> can i just say something president fewer we submitted a list that went along with the ca michael children you explicit mention our list maybe we could come up and list. i was told there were not speakers just children singing >> so joshua davidson first. >> i'm josh the f ti member tonight i need to express any frustration with colleagues and management we made an agreement to move our cafeteria workers in various departments and
4:59 am
unfortunately after months of delay very this information has fallen apart. i want to tell you about our workers our cafeteria workers reflect the diversity of our community in san francisco they provide front line to students and prepare thirty percent of the meals. even though years ago and eliminated the cooking classifications. they do this on a schedule of 3 and a half hours a day many don't have sick days and due process rights and this has gone on for 10 years and in some cases 20 years people have left after 25 years with the district with no retirement.
5:00 am
my friends would have to pass a lengthy examine in english with no credit to the years of service dozens of workers could be replaced outside the district by people who can take a written test in english and they don't reflect the diversity of san francisco they're not asking for the kind of wages like lawyers and consultants outside of the civil servants old simple fairness please support us. thank you very much. excuse me. people in the audience some respect to the speakers we have to keep quote. thank you very much. so i have 3 speakers. (calling names)
