description against women it's an international bill of rights for women the u.s. has not this is where you beau but san francisco passed the first local ordinance in the world reflecting the primdz of sedot in 1998. at the united nations our department that helped to launch cities for c district attorney a new campaign to mark next year the 1995 beijing for action for women's human rights we're fortunate to have a may that gets that since the time he was head of the department of public works and we xeroxed on his donor to participate in one of the gender analysis of the department she's he's been an advocate for having an women in

the workplace he signed a family friendly workplace ordinance giving men and women the right to request a flexibility work schedule and dedicated hichlgz to ending violence against women he 1kur9d a grant for domestic violence survivors but actual training of first responders in spanish and cantonese. in partnership with the mayor's office a couple of staff and the family from the city we've eliminated domestic violence homicides for 44 months. over 3 and a half years (clapping) using a human rights fracture while sadly he ended in january it's an xauchlt san francisco was asked to sever as a pure

of extraordinary character and commitment and encourage and i want to thank the commission and the friends of our commission on the status of women for your generosity and our energy in having an women's human right in san francisco and certainly beyond our city. i'm sure you're aware of emily described in 1998 we became the first city in the nation to reflect our principles felt united nations on all description against wjs that's called sedot and given out of cities leadership the united nations has asked us to a city to lead the campaign and i take it correct even though anita was in new york last week she sent me a photo they're in a foot

moose age particularly in some exotic city i get to only work harder. but she was there in new york i was proud of her a as she joined the department and the united nations convention commission on the status of women conventional in new york to courageous one hundred cities to join the campaign and do so before next year abused next year san francisco hosts the conventions of mayors we want to see at least one hundred other cities eliminate all forms of description and we needed to do that has we host this great convention so make sure those cities do. as i said we're here to recognize 3 exceptional women.

first, i'd like to recognize listening benny hoff she's been an incredible leader in floiptd but is shown her compassion for the city without bound she's been focused on any causes but we take this opportunity to thank her without questioning giving back to the community and without question to the diverse community to make sure that everyone a has the opportunity to success in our city. our city is more successful because of your generosity and our generosity is the model for given. len is truly on extraordinary woman i'm inspired to improving health care in san francisco and leads the font to build the

benny hoff in mission bay and she's really made an effort to make sure she and mark are on an inprinted in the record effort to give to the catholic charities to house our homeless families and she's inspired a homeless care in our effort so he focus as she did on the star home a program it's benefited 26 mothers and children to make sure they don't go back to the streets and have a future with our city. in this past november listening and mark benny hoff and the sales force provided education to our middle schools i'm personally privileged to focus

on to include the lastly technology in the classroom to focus on your science and technology and art and market cripple that's vital to training our future. with that passion and devotion please join me in welcoming listening benny hoff to receive the recognition she fully deserves. listening come on up (clapping.) >> thank you. i want to thank everyone for coming today thank you mayor ed lee and thank you to the commission on the status of women i remember in 2011 i

was reading an article but jill tusher in the san francisco crop california that bmw the homeless kids going to school i was at the kitchen table with my daughter and pregnant with my second and i started to cry i explained to her i picked up the phone and called mayor ed lee and he connected me with tren and naomi and others and really enabled me to help i'm working with the san francisco.com organization see with susan we've worked with the city and the nonprofits like raphael housz house and catholic charities to move all those homeless families off the street it's a big work in progress

we've made great deal of progress but we have a lot more to do and thank you for this honor it inspires me to do more. thank you (clapping.) bay we're also making the additional honor with lynn's help we're committed to the next 3 years for the star community with the hopes in the 3 actually more than hope we're going to build permanent facilities in honor of our commitment so thank you lynn very much. our next her own it doctor susan hell man she's been a leaders our chancellor at the ucsf and the first woman chancellor of

that institution and applied her private sector acknowledge so that ucsf lead the way in science and research in the benny hospital and in addition to her remarkable leadership at the ucsf she's deeply committed to the delivering of medication to the ill and prior to her tenure she spent that 14 years at the jen and tech and the introduction of the countries leading cancer treatment chancellor desmond hell man has been a true champion for aids there's more to come.

soon susan will be joining the linda and bill gates foundation. the chancellor will be greatly missed her in san francisco but there's no greater places to extend herself to the gates foundation. i thank susan for her leadership and as she's blasdz the trail in health care and around the world. susan thank you for your incredible commitment to transforming our international community. please join me in welcoming susan desmond hell man

on the status for women and the friends as a first female chancellor another ucsf it's not uncommon for students or chinese to tell me that me being chancellor was the first time they think they could be chancellor someday. while on, on the charles barkley for modeling it's nervous rocking to be seen as a leader >> for wjs in survives and engineering and math to see folks like me they can aspire to be like and susan carlyle from san francisco general and other colleagues make me proud possible the chancellor at ucsf. the last thing as chancellor i've been honored to sit at the lead of the university to
