3:00 pm
>> good afternoon, supervisors, my name is genevive dupond, it is my pleasure to speak in support of the reappointment of rebecca delgado rottman. i have served with her in numerous organizations. rebecca has demonstrated leadership and resources in maintaining and elevating the progress of the graffiti advisory board. she is quick to garner support and quick to coordinate with dpw, sfpd and the board. rebecca is also not shy, as you guys could tell, about expressing her enthusiasm for the work she does and promoting the work of the board by rolling up her

sleeves and working beside the youth in antigraffiti and sometimes in the rain as well. it is her passion, work ethic and the ability to take a multi generational approach to get youth to take ownership in their city by keeping it clean and beautiful. i respectfully ask for a yes vote in reappointing my good friend, miss rebecca delgado rottman. >> larry stringer, public works, deputy director of operations but more importantly the setting chair of the graffiti advisory board. i'm here to say a few brief words. i'm supporting both nominations. the graffiti advisory board needs the diversity of committee members in order to come up with creative solutions to solve the big problem that the city has.
3:02 pm
both for rebecca and john i am here supporting them, i do have eat meeting to run to and i apologize for cutting in. >> i hope you make it to your next meeting. >> good afternoon, supervisors, i am rudy assertion, i run a nonprofit here in san francisco. i'm here because i want to offer my congratulations to rebecca rottman. the philipino community, she is one of our distinguished citizens in the community and also i am here to invite you to a luncheon on june 28. i think supervisor tang was our key note speaker last year. now you know why we are honoring her. she is a dynamic person and i think it would be a tragedy for the city of san francisco if you don't
3:03 pm
renominate her. thank you very much. >> merilee? >> good afternoon, supervisors, and thank you for having me. there's been so much said about rebecca, i just wanted to add i am on the board of the philipino women's network and been working with rebecca delgado rottman for almost 10 years now and she is very professional, has a high level of integrity. the one thing i love about her is she finds ways to make difficult situations work and she also has a difficult time saying no to us and that's good. so i'm here to ask for your support and to reappoint rebecca. thank you. >> good afternoon,
3:04 pm
supervisors, my name is lynn jefferson and i am here, it's a pleasure to be here to talk about rebecca delgado rottman, however a lot of the description has been taken from me. i had all these adjectives this morning because she is a pleasure to work with. i serve as president of the board of directors of tell high center and i first met rebecca in early 2012 at a neighborhood meeting and subsequently she came for a tour at tell high center and we've been in the neighborhood now serving the community since 1890, we serve 18 months old to senior citizens, six to 7 rr hundred people a day come through the doors of tell high. i thought rebecca would be an excellent candidate for our board, we recruited rebecca and we're thrilled to have her. she has offered us so much in the way of transportation, for instance, to point reyes,
3:05 pm
during summer camp season we take them on an overnight out of the city and because we get the transportation we're able to put the money into the programs. there's so many things, there's scholarships she's offered our kids, our teens, we've got a program at galileo, rebecca took a tour and is arranging actually to get a full scholarship, four year scholarship to the academy of art. i can't say enough about her, she's passionate and she must be reappointed to the graffiti advisory board. thank you for your time. >> julie >> good afternoon, supervisors, julie su, i currently sit on the commission on the status of women and i am here to speak in support of
3:06 pm
rebecca delgado rottman on her reappointment to the graffiti advisory committee. she was the first philipino appointed in san francisco and while we have short memories she was on the democratic committee in early 2000. she takes a community approach. she's been part of the violence -- anti-violence against women advocacy as well and much as we see with the anti-violence council where it takes a holistic approach, the community coming together with different agencies , we were able to combat homicides related to domestic violence for 44 months. and this kind of graffiti abatement takes a community approach as well and she's been a great mentor to all the students and to get them engaged, as you recognize the academy of art university has a lot of international students, it's important to get them engaged to really understand how our country works and the importance of
3:07 pm
community involvement, also reaching out to the younger students to have respect of other people's property and also to reach out to those students who might think of art as a career. i hope you give due consideration, you have seen all the great support for her, she is a wonderful community leader, rebecca delgado rottman ?oo ?a any other public comments on this matter? seeing none, supervisor campos, supervisor tang >> well, very impressive group of candidates and i want to thank both miss ross and miss rottman for their service, this is a very important entity that oversees what happens with graffiti which is a big problem
3:08 pm
in all neighborhoods. the only problem, miss rottman, i don't know if you had enough people testifying on your behalf today. that said, it is my pleasure to move that we move this forward to the committee. >> i have never seen a group so excited to talk about graffiti before but i see jim castille from dpw as well as mr. stinger. i think all of the work you have been doing is so great at tackling the issues when they rise and also trying to foster a sense of responsibility and pride in our neighborhood so they can be prevented as well. with that, happy to support both candidates, thank you so much for your contribution to our city. >> thank you very much, there's a motion and i'm sure both candidates are well loved, so with no objection, then the motion passes and
3:09 pm

3:10 pm
>> good afternoon, supervisors, my name is patricia delgado and i'm here to ask for your support to my renomination that would conclude my second two-year term and hopefully it will continue beyond that. i have been on the advisory board since 2009 and i am pretty much a community activist. i love my mission district. my husband and i bought property in 1988 and so we've been there ever since then. and i got involved with parks, open space, when we developed the park estados unidos and i have been interested in open space in the old industrial zones in san francisco as well as other parts of the city. so it's been a pleasure to serve at the pleasure of my supervisor.

3:12 pm
sure we have plenty of open space for everybody here in our city. any other questions? >> no. thank you. >> good afternoon, supervisors, my name is les hilger, i am seeking reappointment for a seat i have had for the last 6 years. i have been a chair of this committee and also vice chair and i would really enjoy being appointed for the last two years, finishing up my 8 year service. thank you. >> thank you. so there's 4 designated seats and 4 people and one of them wasn't able to come, actually it's supervisor campos's appointment. i assume you are okay? >> yes. >> any public comments on this matter? seeing none, public
3:13 pm
comment is now closed. supervisor tang and campos. >> great, i am happy to forward all 4 candidates to the full board with recommendation, especially on the west side of town it's really important what is it that we do with our open spaces and our parks. we have so many families and children in our neighborhood. i also had a legislative aide who served with you on prozac before so happy to send this forward with recommendation. >> supervisor campos. >> i'm happy to join that recommendation. i just want to make a couple points about my two nominees for district 9, pat delgado, from whom you've heard. she truly is an institution in that neighborhood and what she has done for her community goes beyond, you know, she really is incredible in terms of what she does not only for our parks, open space, but for the whole
3:14 pm
community. so i'm very grateful to pat that she is willing to serve yet again. tom valtin is not here today because he had a long-planned family vacation at spring break for he and his family. i know tom takes this very seriously, does great work and i know he will continue to do a good job for district 9 and for the two other candidates, mr. nick belloni, i know you have done a lot of good work and have a good reputation in terms of your commitment and les hilger i have had the opportunity to work with, great to see you and have the opportunity to be involved and i know the city is better off because of that involvement. glad to see this going forward. >> no objection, the motion is
