art there but it was a vacant place. a lot of those places that are blight should be used for housing we know there are a lot of empty guess so in the city that could be a habitat for humanity so when you see the graffiti blight it's time to look at the positive aspect. remember in this city racism and him or her full board of supervisors and crack cocaine on treasure island it's going on and we must come together as one or we'll perish as fools the king said that. it's not nice looking at what are people saying and you should be able to make that a job for them we make everything a job for people working in d.c. and

yesterday mayor ed lee along with congresswoman nancy pelosi and a newly appointed administrator marie kicked off small property owner week at twitter headquarters and last time at the square headquarters we had the flavors of san francisco we had restaurants from every district in san francisco as long as our community partner in the city and counties of san francisco san francisco has over 60 thousand small property owners their dog-walkers and chaffering providers and generated and market consultant my fast food operators restaurant big and small sea retailers and manufacturers and lawyers and marketing consultants and architect and accountants and floater and house keeps and

designs on and on. our recognizing 11 of our best and bright businesses. you guys also pick really cool businesses. and this are is no exception is give us those businesses a chance to step away from their kitchens or barber chairs to come to san francisco city hall and be honored. this are you've named a range of wonderful businesses including restaurants a hardware store a paramedic and barer shop a lion store and jewelry store and online magazine. this is the diversity of the small property owners in san francisco. you know, small property owners are the backbone of our corridors. and providing the needs of

businesses have come and gone and your restaurant is bringing back a new life there's not even a signage on the door or signage in front of which the location but there's also a long line of people waiting. their visiting the fillmore and paying attention to the fillmore and the fact you've picked up and took a change on the fillmore is appreciative you're not only bringing your jobs but emphatically back to community organizations. you came in and made yourself comfortable and opened your doors and has the right to the fillmore community. it's really about being a real community partner not only setting up shop but giving back. i want to say a couple of other things about stewart and nicole

they've been from new york to chicago to michigan and arrived in san francisco they took the rubbing con and they found a place in the fillmore and basic they've out grown the current location they've just renovated reservations i can't get in there for three or four months hook our supervisor up. i'm kidding. at the focused on local products and investing locally in the community and create incredible dishes i've been fortunate to get there i showcase the fillmore and talk about our community and the food is a absolutely excellence and the service is outstanding and the people incredible that's an

amazing place to visit. i want to mention that state bird has received an initial star and last year to, yes you can clap the jane beard award last year and they were hardly open for the entire year and they got the award to be my mind one the hottest restaurants in the world. there are many, many others things but all those awards those two individuals are incredibly huge and generous i'm happy you includes the fillmore your breathing in life my bringing in the positive energy with the great food i truly appreciate the work you've date of birth so this is why you're being honored as this incredible small property owner an

1976. gary and julia are diligent and dedicated small property owners that built their business from scratch. gary got emphasis start working for tower market i don't know if you remember tower market but a few years later, he opened a wine and liquor store called mr. liquor as the taste of wine grew on his customers he reinvented the store and that's how the san francisco wine company was born. gary and julia poured their love blood, sweat, and tears to honor the principles. their net worth in winners is wide and vast throughout the area but the most proud of

supporting family, farmers and family wineries. i first stumbled upon the within training copy w in a walk their staff was cordial and warm and welcoming and their wine collection was exemplifies in pricing. i wish isle i'd be invited them sooner but i'd be poorer poorer. the within base they've retired the jobs supporting the vitality of the neighborhood. i'm impressed that for a small property owner gary and julian are constantly nominating for fundraiser and community events.

our restoration we're out of now but most of all the technology that's changed for small property owner. it's been difficult for everybody to keep up with social media is part of the small property owner it's difficult to avoid it. the last 10 years we've had to buy computers and pox o s systems and create websites people in our community and all around san francisco they don't have time to get out so you have to accommodate the needs of all. with the technology technology i believe has been the biggest challenge for the small property owners in the last fenway 10 years. i want to say to everybody don't fear competition learn from it and don't fear technology

in thorough neighborhoods it's no different in the castro i'm glad to honor one of our community hubs in the castro joe's barber shop and joe is here today. so joe attend the college of bash or barber in 2001 and 2 and passed the student board examine in 2002, he started asia barber working on 19th street we were neighboring neighbors for many years and opened up on 19th street around the corner. on in 2004 mayor nooument honored the barber shop on 19th street and in 2009 joe out grown his space that was successful and given the great work that's

it there it's really a beloved institution in the community he moved to a larger space on market street between sanchez and church street it's expand and been a successful small property owner in our community. joe's under gotten some trails and tribulations having a fire in 2012 but came out of that stronger. over the years joe's barber shop was named the best by u.s. weekly in 2009 and 2013 and voted the best place to get our hair done by the bay area resort. he's been a friend to me for many years and in addition to being a neighbor for a long time and joe you've been a tremendous leader in the leathern you

community and one of the people that are universally respected in many others parts of community. so it's my great pleasure to honor joe's barber shop as the small property owner of the year. congratulations >> thank you (clapping). >> i want to thank scott wiener the district 8 the board of supervisors and the 76 its a mathematical place and it was the tails of the city that brought me here. now he gets his hair cut in my shop only in san francisco. i want to thank my crew the awesome cosmetologists and my customers after the fire in 2012, we were devastated we had

one the paramedic has been around since is mid 1960s and since 1977 they've been serving is residents larger the south eastern neighborhood the friendly staff are dedicated to treat the customers as family i know many of the residents have childhood memories. this visitacion valley paramedic still serves as an anchor corridor and i'm happy to recognize the paramedics efforts and commitments to sharing the visitacion valley community. congratulations mr. lee thank you for being here with us today >> it's an honor to be here and
