improve the northeast neighborhoods he got things done and in particular telephones a huge advocate for the north beach and broadway neighborhoods as a stave for our office of economic workforce development. i can spend a long time but i'll highlight he organized our lower porlg a polk street and the farmer's market and spearheaded efforts on the alley. he organized the rural festivals between chinatown and north beach he led the in which business association of lower polk neighbors and did much of the work to form the broadway cv

d and he also assisted with other festivals shell was a 25 veteran of the restaurant bar and nightclub industries i think we're in shock over the loss of a leader and friend. this past weekend i spoke to shells parent and shared with them how we all appreciated and loved their son today in our audience we shall joined by shells brother and sister and on behalf of the neighborhoods and friends we want to thank you for sharing our family webb member with our city. potentially one of his lasting legacies is the lower polk district i saw an e-mail at the end of last week before he

passed saying the finally a balance was mailed i know all of us we'll work hard to insure the lower polk succeed this was a project near and dear to my heart to shells project that he worked on for many years. again on behalf of the board i want to say to his family and friends our city is so much the better for having had shell with us before rest in peace >> madam clerk. >> thank you, mr. president. supervisor farrell supervisor kim. >> thank you. today, i'm introducing the beginning of some clean up language for the plan, which the board of supervisors passed in march of 2013 i want to thank supervisor wiener and supervisor

campos introducing legislation that makes clear our protective intent that didn't make its way in the project from fulsome to harrison weighing we've been working to purchase the cable resident to address the 11 street to house the arts on drag icon as training shack that's been going on for 18 years in san francisco. that has a rich lgbt culture and i recently rer sponsored a renaming and i'm sponsoring part of the lgbt x social district the creation of a lgbt social district is about celebrating the vitality of the current

community with small business support and zoning and others. i will continue to support this they contribute to the northern in the same legislation looking to clean up other districts >> thank you supervisor kim. supervisor mar. i want to ask if i could join supervisor and president chiu in the memorial for mr. thomas and kathleen was here from the former small business commission and shell had a great impact on the clement street area several years ago wherever i lacking walk there i think of shell i want to be addressed to the memoriam. i have several items on

june 19th to just a minute a better understanding of the awe depictions e definitions of the recycling centers on that meeting 80 on june 19th we heard from long term recircles and they raised concerns on the evictions of recycling centers in our grocery store parking lots and even though hearing hearing was spurred by the upcoming recycling centers at church and martha street and the abrupt announcement of the north beach recycling center since the closer of the 45ish9 from golden gate park 5 other recycling places where the northern half of san francisco at the safest way and the outer richmond it

was a shock to me i'd been in close krablth contact with safest way and was very insured it was not going to close and it was clear by the testimony of the department of the environment state and nation that we will not be able to reach our vision zero sgoelz goals if in question we close oury cycling centers losing a critical income stream for people's survival needs p.i. and i heard from community we need to work together on a resolution that calls for safe way to immediately sees the eviction of the redemption centers on market street that's scheduled to close on june 30th and for the department of the investment for

a rededuction of are centers and there being a concentrated in district 6 and 10. and also the resolution would urge spshths in the city to have redemption centers in their parking lot in as many areas. also following up with the vision zero we looked at paris mayor ma dam and the new mayor of paris to reduce speedometers in this city i'm introducing a resolution that will allow us to look at how to continue to make progress on safer streets and enclosure reducing speedometers.

cities around the global not only paris are lowering speedometers in order to reduce accident with this i'm requesting you study the impacts following this practice will bring to san francisco. recent studies have off and on that slower speeds help save lives. cars traveling 20 mile-per-hour 40 percent of people survive here in the united states new york has evaluated speedometers so new york in its vision zero is loouktd this policy change and paris began with a project where speedometers were capped at the 20 mile-per-hour and in

scheduling it saves the $120 million as a result of fewer accident in the united kingdom there's less accident and slowing moving cars reduced the green house gases and it is a positive change. my request for the project analysis one what can we learn from national and international that has changed their speedometers and how many lives can be saved by reducing speeds by the 5 or 10 miles per hour and what's the environmental savings and other questions. the successful implementation of vision zero set a standard for san francisco to have no fatalities on our street to achieve this we must make sure that the streets are safer and a

speedometer reduction is better. we're going to have a comedy event laugh for a good cause at the neck of the woods on clement street and 6th avenue. this year's hosting venue is also featuring a number of performances like comedian sam and lydia and trefer hill all the proceeds go to the ymca to the campaign it's a 21 and older event go to the ymca website
