our praise for the police department and especially the richmond division they've been very responsive every time we've called so we have no, no complaint with the personnel and fine work i have a concern i voice this for my wife's the safe way is across the way hard next to the corner of the golden gate park and my wife often says to me, i'm afraid to go to the safeway because of the kind of folks that come from the park after they've been sleeping all night and hang out in front of the the safe way it's a chronic problem i'm sure you're aware of you're aware of it i hope we have a strategy for dealing that that. i know there are laws on the books not been able to sleep in

at the doctors officer or sitting in front of a thooefrt to hear my time is up are i want those people that killed my son in jail i want them in jail so i can go and show them the love i was going to give to my son i want to talk to them and tell them that. i want it done this is not just other family members that i carry with me everyday. of those other mothers in i can stand here and do this imagine excuse me. those are the pictures that i took down to city hall and stand on the stairs and watch the mothers and say can you carry my

the deputies visited app rogers rogers already work out two handguns that have been entered into the ownership database under his name as regarded with the california's registration law the deputies were unaware of that fact, however, because they didn't check the studying gun ownership database or the police files the information was already there and if i'm not placing any responsibility i believe that the information had been there a background check could have provided the ground for the police officers to get a search warrant. the guns were there in the killing were right there when the deputies visited the perpetrator so do we have enough

training within the police department in dealing with unstable people with mental problems that maybe violent. i'm saying that every mentally ill person is violently prone but if there's sufficient evidence my question are we our officers sufficiently trained to do that kind of analysis. i'd like to submit this >> thank you. we don't ordinarily respond but the deputy chief who has a lot of experience in the psychiatrist would you mind talking about our trained officers we have in san francisco >> i didn't mean to pick out the chief with you but we have a

heightened training some of the officers are crisis intervention trained. >> we have one hundred and 8 departmental wide officers that have been trained in mental illness 2 hundred and 69 citywide we had a graduation is week ago i think the officers are trained to respond and be able to talk to people and identify the issues the subject is dealing with. so we are trying to train more officers and we have to keep the classes small because there's a lot of interaction and roll playing and in a tune and matter that mitigates the situation and

get additional resources there we can provide to the citizens that we serve. so the department-wide we're doing very good we're trying to do more and offer more classes we have a lot of officers that want to take the training weigh-in to provide that training there's other classes that members go to but this is one of the important popular ones we've put a lot effort so weigh do a good job the younger officers coupling with a lot of colleges degrees and some with psychiatrist degrees we're continuing to moving forward on that >> thank you, chief. my chief has said she has advanced degrees in psychology our department is well trained.

>> next speaker and first, i'd like to thank all of the officers and leaders in the richmond police department they've done a good job i'm holy that e hoping that captain silverman will stay for a while we've had a lot of turnover since 2009 maybe five or six different captains in our district in that time. so we're hoping to not see you in months but years. there's two aspects i'd like to talk about but first i want to respond to her thing i want to thank chief suhr for standing up for the new bores law they're

hoping to do in san francisco it's criminal we don't treat people. mental illness just because they're so sick they can't ask for the treatment themselves once their treated they'll usually stay on. but i want to talk about a traffic issue i've brought this at the police department meeting and the mta didn't seem interested but your new program i then is important. i came down to this school over the weekend and i parked on the outside of geary and when i went to cross the street i waited for the light to turn. and i was crossing from the south to the north. and first, i crossed actually from the west to the east. no problem green light cross over the street wait on the

other corner the light changes and the hand goes up well, apparently that intersection if you don't press the bottom you never get a walk the hand goes up. and i bring this up because i wasn't claiming will this intersection in the past i was complaining about the intersection on park presidio. and most of the intersections except the one at park presidio and fulton that goes to a walk then the count down all of them if you don't press the bottom even if you get there as the light is changing you hit the bottom it doesn't change to a walk. i've had numerous difficulty trying to find out what the problem is why it didn't go to

an automatic walk light and the number count down it goes available to to a hand you don't know how much time you have to cross the street. you can staples there and if you don't know the button is not pressed you could be there all day. we need to have a standard i think the police department needs to say this is a problem it's a problem with pedestrian safety. and that people can get across the street without knowing they have to press the button for so long as they're waiting for the light. thank you >> thank you. >> good evening. >> good evening. i'm dave i'm a 42 resident of the richmond district. i wanted to thank captain

silverman for the neighborhood meetings i had the opportunity earlier to raise a question about pedestrian safety on fulton in the avenue of 38 and beyond i'd been corresponding with an engineer anothers sfmta about the same time of making wall and raised a point about the city of seattle having a 20 foot no parking prior to all crosswalk lines. indisputable to discussing this with captain silverman i'm somewhat aware of the fact there are certain limits in the infrastructure of the police department where they don't have the ability to communicate with sfmta i had a conversation with director reiskin and raised the same issue about pedestrian

safety and frankly their no reason that people should be hit on fulton. and edward reiskin said he had a name for it it's called daylight savings time daylighting it's a well known practice within sfmta but they have a construction timeline or schedule they were moving westward and even though the statistics suggest there are certain intersections on the outer fulton area that have state of california more accidents than others they're not jumping their construction timetables to address those particular intersections that are problem. my request to the commission and i don't know if they have the authority to do it would be to

write director reiskin and to the board of sfmta asking them to jump their timeline and address the daylighting issue on certain streets crossings i generally think it's 38 avenue and beyond where the parking goes up to the crosswalks if you have an issue with a large r v or vehicle there's no oncoming view i've been trapped at the safeway there you are it's an ankle last year distance and 9 out of 10 pedestrians and the drivers can see each other you need the distance i ask you to write a letter if at all you

all the way down to junior high school we know that pedestrians do get hit a lot there's a lot of categorized as the city is building up i'm thinking we should have a city walking duo to if you go out at midnight and back to the market in the financial district walk with the lights and so you, your tempted to get hit. so i think in the night time there should be bicycle and walking when the streets when there's not a lot of people on the streets it gets your body adjusted to goodness and you won't take those challenges when you're not supposed to walk. it's pride month i know there's going to be a lot of walking in the city but coming out here is

be built close to corners reducing sightlines and that causes drivers to tend to go past the stop line to see around the corner and it puts them in the crosswalk. so unlike the green broach i didn't care for the mayor's office did this without reaching out to us anyway, i just want to congest alleyway you'll drivers and pedestrians alike every time you reach open intersection look right of left right left right left they train the muni drivers you've got to turn our head don't use your mysteries that did no good and aim high
