7:30 am
may 23rd on 2014 not only did i graduate city college with high howsoever or honors i had the highest honors in the largest graduating class in san francisco history (clapping) as i continue to grow because of the foundation i have here at bayview gardens in august i will be transitioning to sfufrt as a junior in social work (clapping) thousands upon thousand dollars of individuals try to get into our social workshop and only 25 are selected i'm happy to say i'm one of the 25 (clapping) and in all honesty, at heart i'm already a social worker because
7:31 am
of my life experience and therefore at this point the honorable degree is a formality. as i earner this much like people here at bayview gardens i teach to trail blaze the path who walked the same journey and allow them to be helped because of the seeds i've planted so it's not secret one of the most anyone memory be issues in our society is homelessness it served too many individuals it turns people into not learning their full potential. under the umbrella of mercy housing bayview gardens has made to combine permanent housing with a vital thing that's hoping
7:32 am
people. mercy has helped to create stable and vibrant community by a financing operating program and rich housing for families and seniors and people who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe, housing opportunity but it's at people with special needs that particularly stand out for me, the reason is there are various factors that led to homelessness subsidies abuse or domestic violence but we doa know think this things dissipate i tip my hat for the supportive services around filling the avoid as we
7:33 am
have here. also coming from a population that is city government tied because off our individual situations and that led us to become homeless oftentimes we're noting not heard. part of the process here at bayview gardens is not only the advocacy for the resident but also allowed us to have a voice of what kind of services we would like to have whether internal it is huge it comburpz us to effectively go into situations and advocate for our homes. each one of us knows that homeless? is not only their problem but a society problem and we're yornt a greater problem that homeless innocence is normalized and society is
7:34 am
becoming descend intents so while it's important, important in the marginalized population so help hold this up it is important furriers to help fighting the good fight help to help many families out of the category of homelessness today, i lift up and encourage the staff the province foundation and bayview gardens and furnished and adorns and divorcing and anything else that places an integral part of supporting and maintaining bayview gardens for the chance you do as you do as individuals. please does not stop doing good its people like the residents that be repealing the reward of our well doing and, in fact, if
7:35 am
no one has told you your efforts do not go unnoticed i just did god blas bless you for your generosity (clapping) >> thank you very much ms. williams. just a couple more people to acknowledge then our closer here father paul and the mayor i want to acknowledge beven and christen from hope. responsible for a lot of homeless work around san francisco and one of the mercy board members mary in the front row here. i promise i don't think i'll everyone left i apologize if i miss you.
7:36 am
without further ado, you do want to bring up the mayor he's been an unbelievable force around homelessness around affordable housing, for us who have known him for any period he's working on any effort from the streets of legal aid no topic the mayor has not worked on so he's a huge friend of mercy you housing and the bayview gardens so without further ado, i bring you mayor ed lee (clapping) >> good afternoon, everyone and welcome to the bouf supervisor cohen thank you. i'm not going to speak a whole lot i'm in a mod of celebrating this community has earned our cities attention to make sure we go everything we can to make
7:37 am
sure that everyone is successful. i want to say this before i go and praise mercy let me spend a minute praising the people in the bayview because this site i know about this surviving. mohammed lives only a few blocks down he took me to the site and when you look at the history of what entities have tried to do something with this site it reflects sometimes the lives of money people that are homeless they're trying to get their lives better the community tried to do something and they get hit with the economic downturn in the economy. thank you first to the people who tried very hard and other entities tried to make something of this site i need to thank them they set the pace to mercy
7:38 am
can come in and use their talent and resources to help with the building of those 72 wonderful unit but also thank you to the community groups bayview the hunters point foundation the entities that started it because the economics weren't they they didn't couldn't get there but everyone tries to get their lives better and city government should be there to help. i'm proud to work with our had human services agency and health department agencies and your a our other partnerships with the nonprofit ultimately too i recognize always the mayor now this this rein osgood days we have perhaps precious days where
7:39 am
the economy is looking at good where we settle an $8.6 million budget not going past manipulated for the supervisors who are on board with me with the need of building omaha throughout this city that we also utilizes what those one of the strongest economies in the city i fulfill that over 25 years ago this is what we get a chance to do. there's more work to be done and mercy has a lot more work we get to do at the moment but let's celebrate another milestone at one hundred and 50 unit having of which are going to homeless families and transitional age
7:40 am
youth we have a presentation of 72 buffalo unit a courtyard and a community being part of the community not isolated because of our economics not thrust in places people don't care about alive is an incredible part of the our cities xhig economic and we only need supervisor malia cohen is to return the economics back to the community as they are raising themselves up we get to do that. i will be very happy every time i'm happy opening up another housing site making sure that people get it i have an aggressive thirty units of housing with your help we'll get there by 2024 and maybe exceed
7:41 am
that number because for me it's about everyone who wants to live in the city violating a chance i know it's expensive we're radio trying to make sure that people don't get evicted from their homes we're going to build and hope sf gets all the developments done. and we need to make sure that every time we focus on a site just like redevelopment accident on this site and the ocii has done it we do our best to develop the site i bring opportunity there's more sites in the bayview there's more partnerships we can have so thank you to mercy and a an incredible level of i think not only style for this but really an ongoing commitment to people
7:42 am
who are in need of help you're a great partner but there's no work to be done i hope you celebrate this and get on to the next project more unit is to be built and more lives to hope thank you very much and congratulations (clapping) >> i think i need a bag. this bag is worth several millions of dollars of investment >> past payments. all right. we're almost done i want to thank as the mayor remit me mercy is happy to work with province on this and unbelievable partnerships we've been lucky to do a lot of this work this represents we have 6 hundred and 57 units of

7:44 am
this is a fabulous nonprofit in the bayview they work with the disabled adults and as you walk through the building you'll see the him capacity we all have. with that, i promise it the it bring us home (clapping) >> all right. i will be short. but just a quick testimony i've heard the words amazing teamwork i believe this project is a miracle this vision going back 15 years ago when running the food pan try across the street families would come over with vouchers and want to know if they could stay longer and they said this place is to dangerous there's so much crime we're
7:45 am
going to stop sending families rent out the whole property and get rid of the crime so sf was working with with neighbors like beulah and others that talked about the violence let's take over the molt so we matthew intrude ourselves to the owner and many 15 or 14 years of miracles and la ton negligence was a gift from god for 72 families to live here that's a gift from god it was not only given but built $33 million gift that's nothing for god. amen. and all of gods workers the city of san francisco and the neighborhood people are trerms loving and good and caring about
7:46 am
one another. let's bless it home for 72 families like in the military when a commission of a destroyer or champagne gets busted against the haul i brought holy water (clapping) so let's commission for putting in the service of god blessing this home for 72 families. letting pray off mighty god thanks for the migraine that build this homing home and asked it be commissions for its service i protect and guide the families that the children may know love and ask you bless this home and keep it safe in the nature of the father and the son
