2:15 pm
commissioner king said when we're going to talk about the policy discussions maybe we can start off with an presentation around the sf program and call it a community outreach presentations so kind of start off so it's been great the idea has caught on we'll hear from the staff and the youth about the program also going out to folks when it's online or sfgov. it's exciting and something we like when we start off the commission meeting. all right. luke >> is it possible to switch over to the presentation? i'm luke with the san francisco department of investment >> better now. >> no, that's the - that's supposed to be that one.
2:16 pm
>> that one? my name is luke with the san francisco department of the investment. and i'm here to talk about the home upgrade program in san francisco. this program provides rebates of up to 48 hundreds for people that own single-family home or homes to have an energy upgrade. there are 5 major green house gas emissions in san francisco. one of which residential buildings that accounts for 22 percent of our foot in san francisco part of the cause and the reason it's high is 50 percent of the housing stock in san francisco was built before
2:17 pm
the 1950s and not designed to be energy efficient first comfort those homes are not comfortable and the heat escapes quickly and more to maintain the temperature and from a safety precipitate outdated awe appliances causes carbon monoxide through improper venting of carbon monoxide p there are a number of things to do you can add installation or replace a hot water heater or a fortune or ductwork and 4th district where the cracks are around window frames and a lot of heat is lost and once you do that look for renewables the department of the environment understands this and pit forgot
2:18 pm
a step-by-step guide to make our home that efficient at sf.org efficient upgrade. i'll see a quick quiz to take you answer several questions about your home and it will provide you with ideas to make it more efficient and whether this program will help you the second step to get with a contractor to get an assessment. and the third step would be to work with the contractor who will provide you with a report including a combustion safety test for gas leaks in the homes and anti carbon monoxide build up. their review the report with you and put forth a list of things
2:19 pm
to make our home efficient and part of that they'll provide an estimate the costs but how much of a rebate from the program you'll receive it it varies from one thousand plus to 48 hundreds dollars per unit this year they'll complete the work and do an inspectors and the performance of the home. they will also be responsible for completing all the necessary paperwork. and following it you end up with a home that's more comfortable and safer and as a result of this you have a more efficient home to reduce the utility costs and increasing the overall value >> thanks luke that's very
2:20 pm
informative. colleagues. >> so keep in mind that this is not only for us but for the listening audience we're on television and we kind of fought to be on television because people can't run down to city hall because what's one of the most frequently asked questions people will sky when you go out and talk to them. >> that's an excellent question. >> thank you. >> the typical question how much rebate can i get it varies from project to project some people want the biggest bank that for my buck other folks want to get the most efficient home and i'm willing to investigator slightly more so there's two open ends of the
2:21 pm
spectrum but the average out-of-pocket costs is 7 thousands and the rebates $4,000 and that's the most frequently asked question we tend to get questions about the guidelines how can we navigate this that's why question set up the step by step guidelines and a hotline people can call into and guided on an individual basis. >> why don't i give the listening audience the hot number and repeat website address. >> the phone number is (415) 355-5007. and the website is sf investment.org upgrade c a like
2:22 pm

2:23 pm
doing and we want you to speak up so if you're listening and watching my bald head listening let us know >> thank you any other questions. >> one quick thing if people are calling in can they stack energy upgrade with stuff like the energy low income people maybe the energy pace when it launches in the city and county of san francisco can it be stucco with additional rebates to cover is $3,000 not covered by the energy rebate. there's a possibility if it comes into fruition to provide financing for energy upgrades but currently not in place and when it comes to stacking providing the same measures not double dipping for the same
2:24 pm
thing twice that's permissible for example, because of the large range of scope of items to deduct installation work we've had homeowners go through the program twice and receive different rebates so it's possible to go through the same program providing you're not double dipping >> thanks luke very good. all right. public comment on the presentation? >> (inaudible). >> question was to luke are we still providing rebates with respect to installation. >> her name and attic installation. >> through this program installation from both the wall
2:25 pm

2:28 pm
have it move forward up ranch the end i think it's important for people to hear from the director what's going on o going on so i appreciate that that speaks a lot to the value you place on the relationship between director and wanting i appreciate that. so i'm going to do with my first ever remarks give you quick highlights and tell you how i've been spending my first 60 odd days as director. so i'm going i'm going to start with the investment now, it's important to note that is a program that evolves with different cohorts of colleagues that come in and they graduate so we very much look at those as graduations we graduated 6 and photo how much this means to
2:29 pm
