the program for the supportive of the ask the connect how will it get funding and the stakeholders participating in the implementations of such a model. there are a lot of questions just a few questions to be determining the feasibility of a model but a model with a well-thought-out plan and financial support could be an asset to all sfusd families and provide opportunity for student and adult learning to support the children in our schools. next this week on thursday we have our first pack meeting we welcome superintendent will be attending to highlight the districts top priorities and his presentation helps us to inform our focus for the year as we
4:34 pm

members he want to publicly apologize to the pack as a whole i regret my behavior. i feel one of the things to try to take a first step towards repairing the harm president fewer and i participated in a restored circle with several pack members present and it was a very challenging conversation. it continues to be championing to me i felt like i learned a lot i will reflect on a lot of things in the conversation i'm not under the illusion that the harm is repaired it is really that is a first step so hopefully we've taken the first step and will continue to move forward together to move past what happened but again, i
4:38 pm
really regret my behavior and offer high sincere apologize to the pack members and the pack as a whole it was a window our conversation on the kinds of difficult k346z we're asking our schools to engage in and i can tell you i won't speak four parents but that was extremely painful and hopefully, will as i said taught me a lot and will allow us to move forward with a lot of understanding thank you. thank you commissioner norton >> so i would like to speak about that. commissioner norton and i, we experienced things this last week it was an important thing to restore the recycle i wanted to be there to own any
4:39 pm
responsibility as a leader in the district about not responding to the comment and actually providing a safe plays for comments it was doubly bad of me because one i was the author of the parent search-and-seizure to actually create one i was the parent organizer before i came into the board to not to take a leadership roll in a manner that will protect our voices i wanted to say not only the voices of the advisory committee is pack members that were partnering but our listening audience and the focus groups around particularly around rational equality and for the parents to come out and participate on a weeknight and
4:40 pm
not have grandfathering with their families i think that rachel and i can offer to the parents i think we can actually put their voice to paper and try to change things in the district and rachel and i looking forward to doing that i want to particularly thank carrie and vicky for restored practice practitioners i didn't know what i was stepping into i wrote the resolution and fought for funding for that i never had been in a circle and i was miss interrupting it i feel like i learned a lot i went home that
4:41 pm
night and felt like i learned something about the parents involved by really learned about myself so thank you to the pack members for giving rachel and i the first step and thank you georgia for bringing us altogether and having the vision of having this circle together and everyone coming together with the main objective to restore our relationship. i also wyoming would like to say to my fellow board members although i'm the president of the board and facilitating those meetings i'm happy if you think something should be brought to my attendance i feel like rational equality it ends with all of us that's our leadership roll it a starts with the leadership of the district we
4:42 pm
expect our schools and our school communities to have those difficult conversations so i want to again extend my sincere apologizes for not protecting the parent voice this was brought forward to us about a subject we have a hard time talking about which is arbitrary equality and all the hours of collecting the will finding and the voices of those parent and thank them to them and extend a sincere apologize all i can say in closing one thing i've learned as a braids member we're all learning here and i know that's a good place to start from thank you. >> commissioners any comments. thank you very much for your report >> i would like to give a plug
4:43 pm

i'm a 20-year-old veteran i'm experiencing issues i would like to have address i have one son in the top school in san francisco. he has been going there a year and a half from rosa parks he's 8 years old i have a 6-year-old who is going into first grade. last year, i was told there was no room a waiting list. that didn't work last year and again, i was told there is no room two classes of 22 students each i'm feeling that i do have mental health issues that would be hardship policy i'd like to know if a class is full how do you deal with the hardship
4:48 pm
policy and the diversity problem i feel in the school not that that want my children both to go to the school but it's 85 percent chinese and the rest is the rest of nationalities i want to know the diversity how we deal with that it's in chinatown johnson is the top school i see more diversity compared to john chin and there's other issues that i feel that i know there are students i have gone to the mayor and the supervisor and going to go to the media to address this issue i'm feeling i'm not getting any support >> thank you very much. mr. steel would you mind taking
4:49 pm
the information so we can have appropriate people follow-up >> thank you very much. >> thank you. next speaker, please. >> mr. york. >> good evening, commissioners. deputy superintendents and president fewer. my name is jason i'm trying to get my daughter into our local elementary we remember the local school is a at the center of the community our children grow and boom that's why my wife and i move forward to cool valley we're learning a rule saying our chandler child can't be part of the community. when it comes to admission priority i understand the intention but the execution is extremely problematic the flaws and issues the school system
4:50 pm
can't be completed in on crosstown bus i see how putting children into low districts to raise the scores it shouldn't be sacred at the others the children at coal valley have a been attending school and playing in the parks and the shared experience is being taken away from them instead of juggling kids between sklgz i think the school district should make every school district better from the hunters point to the man or woman if the city can do that we will have time to talk with our children about what they learned instead of how many buses and trains it took for them to get to school thank
4:51 pm
4:52 pm

a middle school near balboa park for a few years he really liked the neighborhood he had set in his mind he want to go to balboa high school he was not assigned to that school and disappointed that's why it is make we wondering why do you provide us the choice options, however, we choose the school we didn't get the assignment for the school of our choose so i'm thinking the school districts assignment policy is fooling us around.
