we've increased the services to our recipe are the input they've been critical in transportation and education and our social net and infrastructure that is recorded in the cost of living increases we make sure we did for our nonprofits and their an incredible part of our delivery we've made fair wage increases to our city employees an, an historic investment in our housing. i would say i think we all truly building that the big challenges of our economic challenges are behind us but we don't want to deviate what is has gotten us here to be the fiscal success the continued commitment to our

fiscal responsibilities to make sure our budget balances all the needs of diverse communities and we'll continue to invest in our infrastructure and most importantly in the people one hundred percent of all the people in san francisco. again thanks to the board for working together with us for creating the budget. in his second year supervisor farrell thank you for your steadfastly leadership and commitments to building this collaborative process (clapping) i want to say thanks to dan roman field to make sure not only his capacity as controller he keeps us on a due course (clapping) and the people that helped me to make sure i've got all the issues in hand and that's my

chief of staff and kate howard both from the controller's office and the mayor's office for their excellent work thank you very much (clapping) budget whiz wards i call them. but i'd like to an opportunity to specially niefrt david for a few words he's been watching this in his district and the whole board of supervisors. supervisor david chiu >> thank you mr. mayor just a couple of words first of all, those of us who were here when i came into office we had half a billions of we were debating whether to close down first stations and trying to figure out where to cut hubt i

publicity and services i want to thank dan roman field in 149 we passed two year bushlt. >> hydrahave a healthy budget due to our budget wizards i want to congratulate us was likely the easily budget to move forward because our economy is healthier but we're working together to fourth our top priorities and what we're going to invest in i want this thank obviously there's a tremendous amount of work that happens at the board of supervisors i want to thank the staff and the budget committee their hard work led lbe their fear also leaders supervisor farrell and he can go

home earlier to spend time with his kids in the evening supervisor farrell. >> (clapping) >> thank you president chiu and mayor ed lee it's maiming two years in a row we've passed this out of the committee and the board of supervisors. when we started this process i think mayor ed lee and i had a commitment to have an open and transparent process that did as is mayor ed lee respect to every be district to meet with the committee heads and we had a town hall online meeting so people could weigh in we want to make sure our budget protects us for the future it's not talked about we're the only city in the united states that passed pension reform and things at the battle we're setting ourselves up in terms of our physical

headquartered we wanted to make sure we worked with the board of supervisors and my colleagues, i want to shout out to all my committee members supervisor avalos and supervisor mar and supervisor london breed and conserving who pickup truck in the countless hours and lastly we wanted to make sure that the budget we passed was also rehabilitate of the things in our entire city the mayor prioritized things in his budgeted a lot of money towards affordable housing or continue the road repaving making sure we invest in our infrastructure critical things we've done and the board of supervisors coming on top of that food security so our seniors and protecting residents don't sit home hunger

i think we can be proud of you want to say a special thanks first from 0 my staff katherine to the mayors team kate howard she is indescribable to our team and the whole city of san francisco for her entire team thank you kate for all you do (clapping) and as was mentioned to the inspire controller's office dan rosen field and late nights they're here past maintained this doesn't happen so thank you ben and your entire staff for all you've done (clapping) and from the boards prospective

♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ hello and welcome to this presentation. i'm san francisco purrs since that time we've helped people clean up their criminal records. we created this to help you understand how this worked. we'll plan or explain all the steps. after watching this program you'll know what to expect after completing the process. hi, there are i'm deputy and i'm part of the clean slate team. the first thing we will need to

know whether your despicable to have our convictions dismissed can't be on parole or currently charged with a crime or serving a sentence and it must be from san francisco. while your colleagues will get to know your circumstances there are 3 steps. getting the clean slate process started it simple you can get them done in the same day. first fill out an application and they can be opinioned on sf defender.org. next you'll obtain a copy of your rap sheet that's a rap sheet going 80 the hall of

justice at 850 bryant street on the fourth floor. the bureau is open monday through friday from 8 to 5. it's located one block away from the public defender's office you'll need to bring our photo id. finally, there's your our own your rap sheet to the front desk. you'll receive a letter from 2 to three weeks explaining the next steps. let's review the 3 steps if that fillist the police stations and on your police station and 3 deliver our rap sheet and application $0.40 to the defender. it can help with financial aid for colleagues. i want you to meet a client who

did the clean slate program he refunds a nonprofit literary series. please meet joe. peep at the clean slate program worked with me today, i i am an author of 3 books a husband and a father would you recommend clean slight to another person >> i would definitely recommend that. so, now you have a better understanding of the gibt address benefits of the clean slate program as well as highway to get started. let's hear some common questions. keep in mind those are general questions you'll you may be seated with an attorney who be provide more information based on our circumstances >> just to be clear i don't have to tell my employers will

my ejections. >> yes. as well as convictions that have been dismissed. if someone runs a criminal background they'll see the charges but it's dismissed. you will be able to legally tell your employers person never convicted >> i don't to tell anyone is there a way to rears them. >> there's some cases you can. maybe you're arrested because police thought you were someone else. wound our arrest record is sealed you can say you were never >> if i wanted to clear my

record if i was convicted of a felon. >> it is also known as a one letter officer the clean stating hit. >> may be able to get it raersz but if i went to prisoner you may quality for a correspondent certified document saying you're a lay abating citizen are. you had should be aware for some state jobs state agencies are allotted to consider our criminal history. those jobs are private security jobs health care workers and other careers involving the children the i can sick or elder.

it will benefit you human resources here's some of the things clean slate can't do it doesn't prevent an old conviction to there the sense of a new criminal action. the court might connotes more sentences even if it been submit you can't own or polgs possess a firearm. if it bars you from carrying an firearm eclipsing our record won't change that. submittal doesn't rove a sex ejection. if you're required to register as a sex offender that process will continue even if your record has been cleared, however, other forms of royalties maybe eligible.

hold off hopefully prayerfully. i am robert cowan and a pastor and we're here and we are blessed to have many of our city officials including the mayor who is going to come and speak in a few moments as soon as everyone is gathered. it's great to see everybody. what a great compilation of folks. the children aren't paying attention as it should be. how is the food? >> great. [applause] . a street violence intervention program. they did a wonderful job with the barbecue and the hamburgers and hot dogs and if you go away hungry you must be on a diet so water further delay let's welcome our mayor, mayor lee.

[applause] >> thank you. thank you reverend. thanks for being here as well and blessing us. good evening everyone. welcome to herst play ground in sunnydale. i am grateful to the chief and supervisor cohen and park and rec and juvenile justice here. we have so many departments that worked together to make sure that this place is safe and we welcome everybody back here. i know that everybody feels the tragedies of things that happened a few weeks ago, but this community is strong because of its people, but saying we want to bring people back to our own park. this is the people's park right here at herst play

ground and we want to make sure on this national night out not only do we celebrate across the city but we bring people out to their parks, to our parks, to our neighborhood to celebrate to reclaim the areas we want to be safe and collaborate with our youth and employment organizations, our education institutions to work together with seniors and families to make sure that there is no place in the city that is unsafe and particularly here, so i want to say thank you to everybody for coming out tonight, and that this should be yet another beginning, not just this one night. this is everybody's park. this is where the kids can feel safe to play where the parents can bring them out and watch over them where all the different agencies can have and create programs that support them. where our seniors can

have a walk and feel the vibrancy of the city and invest in play grounds like this. you like this new play ground? yeah. [applause] and soon we will get the sand out of that play area and replace it with some good things that don't have the sand in them. we're going to continue investing in this neighborhood and in the people especially but i want to say again thank you to supervisor cohen. your wonderful leadership out here working with us. thank you to tamika moss and the program working with the residents of sunnydale and the community. thank you to all of the different agencies. i know public works is out here doing the fiscal things with rec and park but we're all here to invest in the people that live out here and i want to say thank you again to the police department. you are -- all of you are on the front lines

helping us not just with your service but also making sure that community policing leads our effort here, and how about creating more jobs for our youth making sure we do the right thing because it's not just about police services. it's about youth services. making sure our public health is supported out here. give people the recovery that they need. helping with services -- our youth organizations, our health and human services program, our jobs program working together to make our community strong. this is for everyone. it's not just prevent crime. it's about encouraging people to fulfill their whole lives richly. this is what this play ground means to me and i plan to be out here often and embrace our kids and grow up freely strongly safely in our neighborhood. thank you everybody for being out here tonight.

such a sad event that occurred up the block just last month this year -- this is bigger than last year. we were here last year and i don't think there is anyway it was bigger than this so it's great to see everyone came back to the play ground where kids and community should always be able to go and we and the mayor and the rest of the city agencies here are committed to this neighborhood and this park should be for the kids and the community, not just on national night out but any night of the work to come and enjoy so there will be cops here regularly. soon enough they will be using this clubhouse as a place they use as the base of operations and there's not -- i can't say enough how much time we want to spend with the young people in san francisco and for all of the people that contributed tonight and for the mayor and his leadership supervisor cohen, the district

attorney, and others and i think you jinxed us with saying the rain isn't coming and have a good time and next year will be even better. >> thank you sir. we are blessed to have the supervisor for district 10 so let's welcome supervisor cohen. >> hello family. hello. what a beautiful day. my god we couldn't have prayed for something better than this. thank you for everyone for coming out. thank you. because you know what national night out is about? it's very simple. it's one night when cities all around the country come together to say we're taking back our parks, taking back our streets, taking back our cities, taking it back from the violent crime element and reclaiming it as a

safe haven for the community. there are people here that deserve some recognition. i want to recognize the community partners and specifically list up ms. ruth jackson sitting here in the green. this woman deserves serious recognition and love. i want to recognize the fact that we have a true community. you look around here we've got sano ans, asian pacific islander community, the chinese community, african-americans, caucasians. we have literally the physical man festation of what makes san francisco biewsm. we have the latino community. this is incredible. we have young people. we have seniors this. is exactly what this is about and what visitation valley is about and i want to thank all of the sponsors and partners who made this possible and all of my friends out there in the back serving and grilling and packaging food and giving from

their hearts and that's what this is about. this is a labor of love so remember that as we continue to have a good time tonight. i am malia cohen. thank you. neighbors, police officers, supervisors, the district attorney's office, our probation because we refuse to allow our community to be defined by the worse moment -- by a bad moment of violence, so i am very proud of being here today. this park is a wonderful place. it's a place that we want to want to make sure the community uses and we are committed to ensuring this is a safe place for all to play. thank you.
